More than just a bike fit! I started cycling almost a year ago and I was experiencing a lot of pain and numbness, particularly in my lower back. During my rides I was more focused on alleviating my pain and I couldn't really push myself or even enjoy being on the bike. I realized I needed to do something about it so I decided to visit Dave. Dave really, really cares. He cares about our comfort, safety, and performance. He is very honest and sincere. For our first appointment, I was expecting a typical bike fit, but Dave gave me my money's worth and used the entire appointment to educate me about essential topics of cycling which I've never talked about at any other bike fit.. He went over comfort, hydration, nutrition, position in great detail, accessories, safety, and more. Once you enter, he has a marked area for your belongings, to make sure you don't forget your stuff or get it mixed up with his. He started the discussion by talking about expectations. He took every measurement several times with great care and always paused to ponder after each measurement taken, thinking deeply about my fit/position. He was very detailed about every topic, and was extra serious when it came to safety. He never pressured me to buy anything. Though, I did end up buying Lake shoes and he had me try on several sizes to make absolutely sure I was comfortable. He lent me a training saddle for a couple of weeks to help me find my sit bones. I rode to his place today and he saw me panting and sweating and immediately offered me a drink. I have wide feet and the shoe tongues always slip out, but Dave always holds them for me while I tighten my shoes. I was in a rush to leave and he was bringing my belongings and helping me pack, he paid attention to which side was my back , so I wouldn't having objects poking me while I rode. I bought a new bike as I prepared to do a Ironman70.3. Knew I needed a bike fit to get things dialed in and Dave was who I found online. I read his profile online saw that he had the right background (+20years coaching and fitting athletes at amateur, college, and professional levels) for what I needed. When I contacted him he was very accommodating in getting me in for my initial bike fit, which I really appreciated, since my work schedule is rigid. When I met him he was so welcoming and informative. He gave me a lot of great training hydration and fueling advice which proved to be very useful. He was very knowledgeable and thorough in his bike fitting process. His saddle program (where he picks a saddle that optimizes you and lets you try it for free) is unlike anything you will find on the open market. After the initial fit, I felt like my legs where more balanced and my body position improved. I felt so comfortable with the initial set up, I did the Ironman70.3 and did a personal best for the bike portion of the race, without being able to go back for my initial follow. One week after the race, I went to the follow up visit which was helpful in getting the set up really dialed in, we switched my saddle again after some discussion and now I feel like I'm all ready for my next Ironman70.3 race ! Dave is fantastic. If you live anywhere near Orange County, and you need a bike fitting, I wouldn't consider anyone else. He takes careful measurements like sit bone width (using a pressure sensitive pad you sit on), pedal stroke (using a plumb bob), and a host of other metrics and lets you come back as many times are needed to dial in fit. He is very responsive to emails and the difference in my efficiency and lack of pain while riding long distances is noticeable. He has great advice for training and nutrition as well, and the bazillions of jerseys signed by the many racers he has coached attest to his experience. Dave is a cycling Jedi master. I originally came to Dave after feeling discomfort in my nether regions on every ride in excess of 20 miles. Dave instantly recognized the culprit, my stock saddle, but also noticed that my original fit was poor. I purchased my bike at a local shop and I foolishly trusted the shop's fancy bike fitting machine. Little to my knowledge, the fit was not good, and I felt it while riding. This was my first bike fit and i was blown away at how amazing my bike feels now. I didn't know what to expect, and it's a night and day difference. I completed the fit in the advised 3 sessions and we made significant improvements each time. I was actually looking forward to each fitting. Knowing what i know now, it seems impossible to get a proper fit one session only. Not only does Dave fit your bike to your specific height, weight, and riding goals, he also takes the time to explain why he is making each change - i think that speaks volumes. I've had 3 ACL reconstructive knee surgeries (from skateboarding) and wanted to make sure i wasn't doing any further damage. I was looking for help with my positioning for some upcoming triathlon races. Dave took all my measurements at the first appointment and did some initial adjustments that immediately made my position on the bike feel more comfortable. After a couple of weeks of riding in my new position, we had another appointment to check on progress and provide feedback. Dave has a very patient and careful approach, and his experience shows (just look at all the winners jerseys on his wall). Through this process, we also discovered the shoes I had been using were too small for me, which was causing some foot cramping. I'm 60 years young and while I'm not into going fast I am into going far and have been preparing for some longer bike tours in my upcoming retirement.
