This business claims to specialize in "waterproofing," so I hired them to "waterproof" my garage...which still leaks like a sieve. The contractor, Will, in my opinion, appeared to have too many other things going on to keep an eye on his workers. Work took forever. Lousy quality workmanship. Workers stayed late several nights to smoke weed on my back patio (neighbors complained). Ever hear of the Big Dig in Boston? This project was like that. The crew removed a pure copper cap from my perapet wall and never returned it or replaced it. The tile guy worked at night by the light of his smartphone for God knows what reason. It appears that Will never measured the necessary space to park my car in its space of 20 years. My car now no longer fits in its space in my garage! Despite the house having been refitted a few years ago with all-copper pipe, Will's crew changed some bathroom piping with PVC plastic pipe without my prior knowledge or consent and later, when I pointed this out, Will responded that it was too late to fix it because the drywall and the tile would have to be removed. CXC also changed out some bathroom fixtures for ultra modern fixtures that we did not choose or approve for this century-old lovingly-curated home. Will even employed his own wife instead of a quality painting professional to finish interior painting on my classic 100-year-old Hollywood Hills home There were so many problems with this job, I'm too annoyed to type them all. Will loves to brag about what he claims are "great reviews" here and on other social media. Count me as feeling ripped off. My advice is: stay away from CXC at all costs! $250K and my garage still leaks. Is that what you want? Prove me wrong. read more

Rather than taking advantage of a situation involving doors becoming increasingly misaligned potentially due to foundation movement, he suggested I start with a plumber and consider whether simply keeping water away from the foundation might avoid an expensive repair. I needed to resolve some drainage issues around my house and obtained a handful of quotes. Given drainage is a finicky problem to solve, I communicated that I wanted to take an 8020 approach (i.e., 80% of the results coming from 20% effort/cost). If I needed to add more to it later, then I was fine with that but wanted to see if more affordable solutions could do the job. Despite communicating my approach, a fair amount of quotes came back that felt more like 100% of the results for 100% effort/cost. Fortunately, Will @ CXC fit the bill with a solution that aligned with my stated approach. What I found reassuring was that Will could have upsold the same solution/cost that other people were suggesting, but instead he analyzed my situation and offered up a much cheaper solution that would likely resolve my issues. Hurricane Hillary gave me a good chance to test the system and it worked well minus one caveat. My house is surrounded by a ton of trees (e.g., giant oak tree) and that means lots of little seeds/debris. The system ended up clogging up during the storm, but I think something like that is very hard to predict. I wasn't even aware about the amount of seeds/debris in the yard until after the storm. With that said, Will was very responsive and switched out the catch basin grates for something that is less prone to clogs. I appreciated Will's willingness to help troubleshoot and offer solutions as it means he stands by his work. Aside from all of that, the crew was very nice, tidied up the property once work finished and they were pretty efficient. Thus, I was very pleased with CXC and will continue to use them for any other sort of drainage/foundation issues. Note: Time will tell whether the new catch basin grates will suffice, but I will update this review with the outcome! read more

I want to express my satisfaction with the installation of helical piers completed 4 years ago. My foundation was intact but my hillside home was sustaining excessive interior and exterior cracks. There have been only 2 small, superficial cracks, which is great for a hillside home, since 2019. I am also encouraged by information on the Internet that homes with helical piers in both New Zealand and Alaska sustained far less damage than homes with traditional foundations during strong earthquakes. I am not only happy to recommend Will and his very competent crew, but also express my satisfaction with the remedy using helical piers. read more

Will and his team at CXC did a great job replacing a failing stem wall perimeter foundation on my 1920s mid-city home. I bid the project out to six different contractors. His bid came in close to most and it became quickly apparent that his crew would delivery the highest quality and integrity to the job. His ability to accommodate my scheduling needs, the crew's many years of experience and overall professionalism, and the quick communication from the office administration all resulted in a great experience. A big shout out to WILL (Owner), CELSO (Foreman), and ROSANNA (Administration). Word of advice, get multiple bids and always verify general commercial liability insurance and that it covers the type of work that is going to be done. CXC's was easily verified...others were not and in some instance foundation repair was not even underwritten into their policies. CXC is BBB accredited, many others are not. We had a wild problem in a crawl space or really a "cave" that was causing bad leakage into our house during the 2022-23 winter rains. We weren't even sure what needed to be done, we had many different people come in and give us recommendations of what to do. We chose CXC because we felt their solution was the best option given the situation, and best piece of mind. We had great communication with Will, he made us feel like he understood our dilemma and was genuinely interested in helping, we weren't just a "customer". Even in the middle of one of the craziest rainy seasons in LA history, he and his team made time for us, they even came after hours to help do a temporary install of the professional grade sump pump so that we could sleep through the night without worrying that our first floor would flood. When they came back they had to use a jackhammer to open up the trench to be able to install a french drainage system and a sump pump. The job was dirty, the space was tight, but when they came in they did the work, apologized for the mess, helped clean up the best they could, and finished it pretty quickly. It was amazing! Will's guys were cordial and easy to work with. I know this all happened a year ago, but with the current rains we find ourselves now so very grateful for the work CXC did to help keep our house dry today! read more

We had our kitchen remodeled a few years back, at the time the contractor told me they needed to float the floor to level it for the new tile. I was surprised when it ended up with a 2" rise from the dining area you'd think they would have checked under the house at the time. I finally get around to checking myself only to find one of the supports is slipping which caused the dip. I contacted CXC and Will was super responsive came out the next day to check it out. His recommendations were spot on based on my research. To be 100% sure I had 1 more company come out to verify. The second was overkill with recommendations and no responsive after they came out. (Took them almost 2 weeks to reply) I texted Will while I was out of town, he scheduled a time as soon as I returned, they had a hiccup on another job which delayed us a day, (stuff happens) his crew was there next day, knocked out the project in less than a day! Although I feel bad leaving a review that is not 5 stars, I thought my experience might help someone, because it did not match up with the other great reviews on here. I had CXC Contracting out a little over a month ago to do a free foundation inspection. The representative was very nice and personable and spent plenty of time with me, but I wasn't completely confident in his/their knowledge of the problem. Maybe it was just the inspector who got sent out, but I never got a clear answer what exactly the issue was with my house (they told me one thing, that I had a sinking beam that needed to be replaced, and then another, that I had cracks in my foundation that had to be filled before anything could be done). The part that bothered me the most was that the representative that came out told me that he would email me a detailed proposal the next day, but he never did (nothing in my spam folder either). I guess they must have plenty of business. I ended up signing a $21K contract with another company (who seemed much more knowledgeable) instead. read more

I highly recommend Will and his company CXC Contracting. We had a problem with our foundation shifting to a point that we had trouble opening our front door. Will came out to inspect the problem and recommended that we lift the foundation using helical piers. His crew was at work in two days. They ran into a problem when they could not drive the piers into the rocky ground under my home. Will was called out and he and his crew came up with an alternate plan. Three days later you couldn't tell that they were there (other than a missing bush that had to be removed). And I can now open my front door like the day it was installed. I found Will on the internet, and called about water damage to foundation and to a wall, and a sinking problem. He came promptly, diagnosed the problem and made a proposal. His crew came promptly, made a thorough inspection, and started work. Inspection disclosed another problem, no surprise because Will had noted that it might exist. CXC did a seismic retrofit of our mid-1960's single-story house. This involved punching through the stucco at intervals around the exterior walls to bolt the frame down onto the foundation. The work is messy by definition, but at the end of each day Will's crew policed up the area and kept their materials collected up in one corner of the yard. The stucco was left in paint-ready condition and the finished job looks great. Will's personal touch is a big plus. He walked the house with me when he came over for an estimate, and answered all of questions. He made sure to give me enough of an education that I understood what was and wasn't necessary to accomplish our goals. He also worked with us on the scheduling, took care of the permit with the City, and was always responsive to questions or concerns. We have more projects planned next year and will definitely be calling Will again. read more

We just had CXC retrofit the foundation of our 1920 home in Santa Barbara and they did an amazing super job. The house was built on hollow concrete blocks and before they could install the hardware to tie the house to the foundation, they actually filled all the hollow blocks so they would firmly hold the hardware, Very thorough and a solution custom fit to our needs. Due to the heavy large rains the lower floor of my home had a major leak. Will and his crew came out, brainstormed and took the time to use their expertise to find the best way to fix this leak at the lowest cost. They removed a wall length built in wooden library shelving system, labelling it piece by piece to get to the flooded wall behind it. They fixed the wall, installed a French Drain, and then replaced the library shelves almost like new. Will explained each process in detail. His team is professional, they do quick high quality work and removed all construction leftovers and even swept up before they left.
