I am updating my original post to give CVS an extra star! Their new system for picking up prescriptions is working beautifully. When I got there today at 5pm - a time when there would normally be a looong and slow-moving line - there was no line at all. Go anywhere else for RXes if you possibly can! This CVS is negligent and recently gave me the WRONG RX, in addition to not reaching out to my doctor re: another RX. Wrong RX: I picked up a new RX for our dog last week. It was supposed to be extended release, but something looked off. I asked the pharmacist, she said no dismissively, and continued checking me out. I took a better look at the package when I got home and googled the names of the RX. This wasn't the right RX! I reached out to our vet who sent me the original script, which clearly said extended release. I went back today with the original script and the RX and they confirmed they had given me the wrong RX, refunded me with a gift card, then filled the correct RX. They agreed it was incredibly dangerous for pharmacists to give out the wrong RXes and negligent of that pharmacist and no one else to catch what could have been a really awful, more complicated issue. Not reaching out to doctor re: RX: My birth control was showing up as not covered by insurance. I sent a message through the app to ask what was wrong and spoke to someone, who assured me they would reach out to my doctor. I checked the app a few more times and nothing changed, then got an awful, painful period which required pain meds to manage daily life (and why I'm on this RX!). I sent another message yesterday to find out what the status was and explain I need the RX. Michael called back and when I explained my problem - and why I was frustrated - proceeded to spend several minutes lecturing me on respect, it's a Monday morning, he didn't need to tolerate this, and on and on. He was angry, repetitive, and just kept going. I asked if he was done, explained again I had been waiting for follow up and had to call to do that since I had heard nothing and already spent one cycle in pain. He explained they reached out to my doctor and heard nothing, and weren't obligated to update me when they hadn't heard. I said I would call them and find out what's up. After 3 calls with my doctor in 24 hours, they've confirmed several ways this CVS DID NOT reach out in any way or at any time regarding: my RX. I explained the situation to the nurse and she resolved it within 24 hours. She also confirmed with their answering service and electronic records that CVS hadn't reached out in any way. I reported both of these examples of negligence to Dawit, who I spoke to today. He agreed both were unacceptable and shouldn't have happened, in addition to noting Michael is new and unprofessional. I am going to find another pharmacy again, but want to urge others to 1) check your RXs to make sure you get the right meds, 2) follow up when you don't hear back bc they don't call doctors re: RXs, and 3) avoid Michael for his unprofessionalism! They will really hurt more people in this pharmacy continues to operate so negligently and dangerously, with no regard or care for the patients they purport to help! read more

Overall, I had a very regular experience here. I stopped by to pick up a couple of items. Unfortunately, the items that I needed were behind the counter so there was a little bit of a wait in the line. On one hand, the wait was a bit long. But on the other hand, the wait was "long" because the cashier was helping a customer figure out their coupon situation. I guess I don't mind my minor inconvenience because the staff was really going out of its way for a customer who needed help. read more

This is the worst run pharmacy! My doctor let me know that I needed vaccines as they were not on the State of Maryland database. When I logged into my CVS account for vaccines, lo and behold! there they were with the dates I received them at the CVS on Carroll Avenue (D.C.) They were never SENT TO THE STATE! So I would have needlessly gotten more vaccines not needed. I recommend that you get your vaccines from another venue and stay away from this site. read more

They lack carts. The customers who are elderly or fragile or handicapped, or mothers carrying babies should not shop here. There is no way to carry bottles of water or heavy items such as milk and detergents unless you can levitate to the cashier. The carpet is always dirty and has not known a shampoo for years. They hide and lock toilet paper and detergent as if it would be a Gucci purse. Oddly enough, their is very nice, they are overworked. Especially the Pharmacist and their team. They must have nightmares at night thinking of their endless prescriptions to fill and never enough help. I dont see how CVS can survive the competition. I forecast that they will be out of business in less than 7 years. Who would be at fault? Their management only. read more

Addi listened patiently to my situation of needing to bridge my heart medications despite having had it recently filled at home in Hawaii. STAY AWAY FROM THIS CVS! The pharmacist DUWUAD is an absolute nightmare. He refused to let me know whether they had my rx in stock and said I'd have to drive there in order for him to let me know, I informed him I live 20 mins away and don't want to drive there if they didn't have it and he said oh well. Horrible customer service. People like that should not be dealing with medication. read more

I've used this location for both regular purchases and the pharmacy. To start, the staff is great. The Store Manager and employees clearly work very hard to make this location a success. Several times they would check the back or even pull items off the CVS truck when the items I'm looking for were OOS at the shelf. When I used the pharmacy, the young lady at the register was professional, helpful, and fast. My only knock was that the head pharmacist reopened the pharmacy 15 minutes later than posted coming back from lunch as customers patiently waited in line to get their prescriptions. Not the cashier's fault, but several customers were a little frustrated w/ that. If this were a review of only the employees, it would be a 4 or 5 star. The 2 star is for CVS Corporate. During my visit, I watched MULTIPLE students walk in, take several items off the shelves, put them in their bag, and walk out....SEVERAL! Where was security!?! The manager yelled at them to put the items back, but it looked like she was restricted from trying to physically stop them...and I understand that. Again....where was SECURITY? Where was the DC Police? They have to know these kids come in around the same time everyday. Why not have patrol cars nearby to arrest them when they do? After some of their friends go to jail...I'm sure it will slow down this CVS's theft issues. Put a security camera facing the door and record the faces of these people. This is insane. The Store Manager, other employees and paying customers/families deserve a better experience from CVS. read more

Gabrielle gave excellent drive-up pharmacy service on 3/14/25. The pharmacy was open for only 10 more minutes and she managed to get my prescription transferred from another store -they were out of stock- and into my hands pronto. The reason I will be longer be using CVS as my pharmacy is because when you call and need to speak to someone, you have to leave a message and they will get back to you...guess what??? They operate under the mantra that because they're a drive thru pharmacy in a prime location they can do as they wish. They are rude, disorganized, NEVER have my prescription in stock (it's always "on order") until I go get it from another pharmacy and NEVER answer the phone. I hate this place. The location is great, it's clean and well stocked except for the aforementioned prescription that they REFUSE to stock, but dealing with them is always unnecessarily traumatic. read more

For the love of God. Please don't offer covid vaccine appointments if you don't have any vaccine available! My brother and I went way out of our way to make this appointment, specifically because he is returning to Vietnam tomorrow. I got several texts confirming this appointment. One text that said, "Um, we don't have the vaccine", would have prevented us wasting our time. The pharmacist said their system booked hundreds of vaccine appointments which they were not able to fulfill. read more

I totally agree with some of the other reviewers about their being rude. I went to their drive through pharmacy today(Oct 11th, 2021) 11:45am and the lady (Selamawit Yifru) working at the drive window was plain rude and kept yelling at people. I am yet to call their corporate and make a complaint. I respect the health care staff going above and beyond in this pandemic but once in a while you also see these kind of people ruining it for others. Fortunately, they are low in number. read more

I visited the CVS pharmacy, (#1364) on 9/1/24, located at 6514 Georgia Ave NW. There were three staff present: pharmacist, pharm tech, and cashier. I was next in line to be seen. The cashier was lackadaisical and aloof. It took him 10 minutes to locate my prescription which was ready for pickup. The prescription was not covered by insurance; thus, I located a coupon. I was sent to the pharmacist to address this. The pharmacist sent me back to the cashier with no detail. Subsequently, the line had grown extremely long. I believe the pharmacist should have availed herself to assist with checking customers out since the line was so long. Needless to say, both the pharmacist and the cashier were ill equipped to work alone and could not manage the pharmacy. It took me 40 minutes to obtain my one prescription and checkout. read more

The general store is the typical CVS -- overpriced for some items but convenient to grab snacks, batteries, greeting cards, etc. in a pinch. It has a nice parking lot, and the area is generally safe -- but still don't leave anything visible in your car while you shop. As for the pharmacy side of the business though, it leaves MUCH to be desired! They hardly ever answer the phone, and the in-store service itself is unfriendly. The drive-thru line is long and painfully slow. Going inside is equally slow, and the service is borderline unpleasant. The pharmacist makes changes to Rx's but without your knowledge or consent -- and you only know if you happen to catch them one time like I did. For example, I dropped off a Rx for a topical steroid cream with one refill. But when I picked it up, the package said 0 refills. I knew this wasn't correct. I asked to see my actual Rx slip, which they claimed not to have anymore. But then they tried to say that they went ahead and gave me a bigger size than had been ordered, and that's why I wasn't going to have any refills. I objected to that, and I insisted that they take back what they had given me and fill my Rx as written. But I don't think it's ethical or even legal for them to do what they did. Rather I think they secretly wanted to charge me and my insurance more for a bigger size tube than what I had actually been prescribed. Highly suspect! Bottom line -- I finally got so tired of this pharmacy location that I started using another place that's twice as far from my house. But that other place is clean, professional, and friendly -- whereas this place is not! read more

This is my local CVS. They are always very busy or even overwhelmed- keep in mind, only the angry are posting Yelp reviews. I usually get my Rx on time or even expedited when there is an emergency without hassle. When I go for a vax it's been easy and the pharmacist or nurse has been very pleasant. I frequented the CVS in Takoma Park today to purchase toothpaste and toilet paper. Much of the items people use daily are now behind locked glass cabinets, including toothpaste. Also, the shelves where toilet paper and paper towels are docked were empty. When I asked if they were out of toilet paper, I was told that those products are now stored in the back and you would have to request the item. This corporate approach to theft is absurd. Shoppers are penalized for the bad actors. Instead of all of these locked glass cabinets and additional staff to unlock them, CVS should solve the problem of theft. The alternative is to go to a grocery store where everything is available to the shopper. I will not frequent another CVS to purchase anything. read more

They could have hurt my baby! This is a zero star review. My daughter is low on vitamin D had already been on a multivitamin and a separate vitamin D supplement. However she needed a higher dose of vitamin D. I dropped the prescription off to the pharmacy. The man that took it from the drive-thru window said they didn't have that dosage in stock and I would have to come back in 2 days. I came back 2 days later and spoke to a woman at the window who looked the order up and said that the medication needed to be ordered. Naturally, I was confused and said that I was told the medication was going to be ordered when I dropped it off and would be ready for pick up today. She backtracked and said that it was already ordered and would be there in the next 2 days. So I went home. Not wanting to be in a similar situation I called them before I came to pick up my daughter's prescription. They had it and I picked it up. The next day my husband was preparing to give my daughter her medication with her breakfast and noticed that it was actually a multivitamin and not the singular vitamin d that was prescribed. Furthermore it looked like the item was taken from over the counter. Wanting to be sure that it wasn't a misunderstanding on our part, we called my daughter's pediatrician and asked it she was to be getting a multivitamin. They were really surprised and looked it up again to ensure there was no error on their end and confirmed she should have just gotten vitamin D because she was supposed to take it in addition to the multivitamin she was already talking. The pediatrician's office called the pharmacy themselves to find out what was going on. When they called me back I was told that the pharmacy denied giving me a multivitamin but if I THINK they made a mistake I could come back to the store. I was pissed and hopped right in my car and drove to the pharmacy, medicine in hand. When I got there I spoke with a woman and proceeded to tell her what I received vs what the prescription said. She looks at the box and ARGUES with me saying, "it's the same thing, there's vitamin D in it". I told her my daughter is already taking a multivitamin she needs additional vitamin D, it's not the same, she can't take what they gave me. Even before I finish my sentence she takes the box and starts walking away. She proceeds to talk to another pharmacist, the same one I gave my prescription to on my first trip there. She then comes from around the counter into the store itself and grabs a box off the shelf puts the prescription sticker on it and hands it to me. I'm immediately suspicious because I don't understand how you go from special order to having it available over the counter. I don't say anything because I'm tired (did I mention I'm pregnant?) and their attitude is telling me everything I need to know about how far challenging them will get me. As soon as I get in my car I call my daughter's pediatrician because I don't trust what I was given. Sure enough it wasn't correct units. My daughter's pediatrician was really surprised because she had to completely recalculate the dosage as the instructions for taking the medication were for a different unit than what they had gave me. It really pisses me off to think how badly this could have gone for my 1year old daughter if we accidentally overdosed my daughter because they gave us the wrong thing TWICE. I live very close by but this is the first time I've used this pharmacy. I thought it would be easier because they have a drive-thru, unlike the one in Langley Park. Boy was I wrong. Save yourself the headache and health endangerment; go somewhere else. read more

The CVS in Takoma Park DC 110 Carroll Ave is stealing money from citizens by not checking insurance Before charging customers. I discovered this because I was erroneously charged $630 for a prescription (with a coupon) and when I returned for a refill They tried charging me another $630. In actuality the cost was $20. The full price of the drug without insurance was about $1300. This is happening with the full knowledge of the pharmacy staff. Please talk to the management as well! One pharmacist involved in the wrongdoing is Timothy Murphy. Perhaps the police could make a visit and perhaps put the fear of God into them. They should be checking insurance each time for every customer. Not doing so is theft. read more

I have used this pharmacy for many years, but I have finally lost patience with them. Today I went in to pick up 3 prescriptions for my pet. They had only one ready and had no record of the other two. I went home, called my vet who had a record of faxing all three prescriptions. I called the pharmacist who said they had not filled the remaining two, but that they would be ready in 30 minutes. Same thing happened last time I went, a week ago. My impression is that they see that the prescription is for a pet and put it at the back of the line. They have also managed to make it so that other prescriptions I have on a regular basis have been separated from one another so that I have to make two or three trips a month to pick up rather than just one. In the meantime they send annoying texts reminding me to pick up prescriptions, counting down days for me to reply. My goal is to know that I can go in once a month and get all of my prescriptions, which I take on the same schedule, at the same time. When I said to the pharmacist that I would be moving all of my prescriptions away from them, he said that I should do that. read more

I've been on hold at this pharmacy at 110 Carroll St, NW, Washington, DC for 21 minutes now. I'm calling because my doctor called in a prescription for me last week and I got a text from the pharmacy telling me I need my doctor's authorization to fill the prescription -- FOR A PRESCRIPTION MY DOCOTR PHONED IN!!! And when I called to get an answer to that question, I was told that they have a prescription ready for me to pick up. I picked up that prescription last week!! What the hell is going on there? This is not my CVS of choice, but when I visit the pet food store across the street, I tend to stop in here. Jeff C. wrote in his review (2 1/2 years ago) that this place is a mess. It still is. I know, it's almost Thanksgiving, so that means time to put out all the Christmas decorations, candies, wrappings. However, can't you pay someone to do it after hours and not leave the boxes in the aisles? Exactly what Jeff said 2 1/2 years later. I am not a fan of the way it is organized; I guess I should stick to my regular CVS in Silver Spring (NOT the one in the Blair complex). Checkout is a bit confusing. There is one cashier, but they almost encourage you to do it yourself, which most folks screw up and end up needing assistance with. At least they have a huge parking lot (which is always underutilized). read more

I would give this place a negative star if I could. My partner was really sick and needed a covid test just to make sure she didn't have covid, per recommendation by her doctor. We got there on time for our appointment but ended up waiting an hour in the drive thru. The lady proceeds to stare at her screen for 15 minutes and did not communicate what the problem was. She then tells us that the insurance would not allow us to take a covid test because the insurance was inactive. My partner literally downloaded her insurance card from the website as we were sitting in the car waiting. The person then had the gall to ask us why this was a problem and said we should use old insurance information when scheduling. She cancelled our appointment and said that we need to call the insurance to figure out what the problem was and then come back tomorrow. ABSOLUTELY NO THANK YOU. the LAST time we came here the entire system was down so again, we were not able to take the covid test. Do not go to this place if you really need a covid test. read more

Garbage. Inept. Do not go to this sad excuse for a pharmacy especially if your life depends on it. The store and pharmacy are always in disarray. But I digress. Let's just focus on the pharmacy. The lines are always a mile long both inside and drive-thru. There are always ten ppl working in the pharmacy and yet none of them moves faster than the cadaver you will be if you rely on them for your medications. They are regularly out of basic things at the worst times. Cold/allergy meds EMPTY in cold season. I recently had to call them urgently bc a critical Rx wasn't showing up in the app and I needed an update. I waited on hold for THIRTY-EIGHT minutes, during which I drove over there (15 minutes away), parked, walked in, got in a line a mile long and watched them all behind the counter, sauntering around giving zero f**ks, with phones ringing nonstop (yes I was still on hold for all this time), and nothing. When it was my turn in line, I held up my phone to show them all that I was on hold for over an hour and nobody answered! And what did every person - including the pharmacist behind the counter - do? They all LAUGHED at me! Yeah. And I'm supposed to trust them with my medications?! When I got home I called the manager to complain, and he told me to hold on because there were customers there in front of him complaining about the same thing. The manager told me this. To make me feel better. Yeah. Buffoonery. Run away as fast as you can. Or heck just walk away. Slowly. Because ain't nobody gonna catch up with you from this hellhole where medications go to die. read more

I would have posted ZERO stars if given a chance. This is still the worst Pharmacy ever. I have been on hold for the last two days on 2 different phones. You can never get a live person and the customer service is the worst I have had in my life. I will never go here again. Management needs to do something. May be something is wrong with the phone system but you should be alert to this. I recommend everyone to NEVER go here. read more

The crown jewel of this fucking dump is Ouimar, the condescending prick manager who told me that his credit card machine wasn't broken, I had just simply forgotten my PIN number that I have been using for the last 11 years. When I showed him the error message on the credit card machine he helpfully made me repeat the transaction in front of him, walking me through each step of the process as if I were a small retarded child. When the error message was displayed once more, Ouimar was quick on his feet! He ran my debit card as credit and the transaction cleared. "See?" He said with a cunning smile, "You forgot your PIN number!" Look, this isn't the only CVS in the mid-Atlantic, but it certainly stands out head and shoulders above the rest for having hired a fucking human diaper like Ouimar. read more

Although I recognize that the yelp consensus is that this CVS Pharmacy is horrid, "a-ok" describes my feelings about it pretty much perfectly. This CVS Pharmacy (my regular one) is always a little bit busy - and very busy during prime hours such as after work on weekdays. If waiting in line drives you bananas, I'd recommend going on weekends or during the day (or later evening) on weekdays. That said, the staff range from neutral to quite friendly, and for the most part empathetic and helpful. They are always stretched thin and they do make mistakes, but they're willing to fix them whenever possible. Pharmacies are sort of the public face/ interface point with a lot of the most frustrating aspects of America's healthcare system. I think pharmacies in general, and this one in particular, catch a lot of flak for things that are deeply upsetting, but really not their fault, to do with insurance companies' policies, doctors' limitations, and FDA requirements. I have seen a lot of customers treat the pharmacist at this location VICIOUSLY, because they weren't able to fill an expired prescription, because their med isn't carried at this location, because their insurance won't cover it anymore, because their doctor won't allow a refill without another office visit... In America, the onus is on the individual to navigate these terrible systems. CVS can help (and they do! I love the auto-refill system interface) but they mostly can't solve it or prevent messed up outcomes. Anyway, given all that, I think this pharmacy offers a pretty good balance of efficiency (given the number of customers) and automation whenever possible. It won't be lightning fast but it could be worse. Don't ever call them, though. Seriously. If you want to talk to the pharmacist get in your car and drive over - it will be faster, I promise. read more

Worst pharmacy ever!!! Totally incompetent and unresponsive. Don't go there, I am done!!!

As every other reviewer has noted, this pharmacy is the worst. Incredibly slow and inefficient - rude staff - providing fewer pills than prescribed and paid for. I now know that the least of their faults. My most recent experience with them demonstrated incompetence that could have been fatal. My doctor prescribed a new medication, with instructions that I take one pill PER WEEK for 12 weeks. CVS dispensed 7 pills, with instructions that I take one PER DAY, which I did. I relied upon the instructions CVS provided, and didn't learn of their error until speaking to my doctor after the fact. I'm so thankful that taking 7 times the prescribed amount didn't kill me. Customer service seemed interested when I called them to report this, but I'm not hopeful that anything will change. read more

The store is fine (including good parking), but the pharmacy is terrible. In the six months we moved to the neighborhood they've lost two prescriptions. If your health relies on a scrip being filled ontime, avoid this place. When our son was being prepared to be released from the NICU, the doctors called in a prescription. We were told it would take two days. When we went to pick it up, they had no record of the order. We had to have the NICU call (and then later fax) in the scrip again, and find a pharmacist at the hospital to rush a small dose of the order to avoid delaying his hospital discharge date. A week later, when we called to check on the order for the full month supply, they again had no record. Mistakes happen and all of this would be somewhat bearable if the people there would be willing to work with us to help get the prescription filled on time. But, they were downright mean. Our repeated interactions were met with indifference, skepticism, and defensiveness when we mentioned a fax confirmation. At the time, we were just desperate to get the medicine (we ended up going to a different pharmacy). But looking back, it was actually a little shocking to be treated so poorly for just asking them to fill a prescription. read more
