Busy location,and I love stopping in here for seasonal items on clearance. They just redid their cosmetics section (looks nice) and is one of the biggest locations I've seen. If you plan on cashing out, either plan to stand in line for the one cashier they usually have,or stand in line for self check out. I've also been in here a few times where their coolers have been broken, so no water or soda if you wanted it. Also,when the seasonal stuff is clearanced, it's all thrown in one section (sometimes with regular items) and not marked. Remember to check the item's prices before checking out. Overall, it's just a "meh" location. If you just want to run in and out for what you want,without being asked for help,this is the place to go. read more

Ugh - in a new building that was built recently, obscuring the view of the streets that run along 1 Davis, CVS is the prime tenant. No particular good sales around, and also doesn't carry good cleaning or heavy duty gloves. Only cheap ones. read more

Its a CVS what could you really ask for? I mean, its a drug store I am not expecting a miracle... however, I am expecting a bit more professionalism from the Pharmacy Department. I have been to this CVS twice in the last 2 weeks, once for a question to the Pharmacist and once for a Rx being filled. 1. Stopped to ask the pharmacist which pain medication was best for muscle pain/strain. Resulting in a reply that could only be described as an irritation to this woman's day. "I can't answer that". 2. I had my doctor call in an Rx, and I went in several hours later. To only find that they replaced the Rx with a different delivery system because they "didn't have it in stock". I refused the Rx, and they had to order it for delivery 3 days later. I was irritated they didn't call me (or my doctor) to check on the change. Stopping at this CVS is at least on my commute home, but I would have appreciated a phone call about this 'change' they made. Ultimately I got the Rx I needed, but was more soured with the liberties they took on their own. Overall, this is a slightly above standard CVS, as it is pretty large, and has a wide range of items... I just really am disappointed with the pharmacy area more than anything else. 4 stars for the basic store, 2 stars for the Pharmacy. read more

It's a CVS. There isn't too much to say. But I wanted to add a few gripes and yipes. Yes, Noelle. The lines suck ass. This is the poorest planning I've ever seen. It's not that they don't have a lot of cashiers, b/c I've seen the horrendous lines with all of 'em open, it's like they just didn't anticipate there being more than two people in line at a time. The candy display is so close to the counters and for some really ridiculous (as I'm sure it's ridiculous) reason there are these little display carts pretty much where you should be standing in line. The effect of the display carts is to push everyone in an awkward line that pushes out in front of the door. Brilliant. I also hate that there's a CVS in Davis. I also love that there's a CVS in Davis. Let me explain--convenience rocks, CVS in my cute little square with its cute little local stores does not. Total lame. It's newness is what keeps it rockin' the four stars for me. This probably isn't fair, though, given that, like any other CVS, this one will be sketchy in about three months with no one bothering to replace the bulbs, carpet or display shelves. Oh. And razors locked up behind cases? Seriously? I guess I get it, but I hate having to grab an employee just to buy some blades. read more

I go here out of convenience not necessity, When it comes to the general store is kind of a disaster They recently remodeled and in my opinion it made things worse. The store is organized in such a way that makes no sense to me and just creates confusion. For instance they used to have the candy isle (think movie theatre boxes and the two for a dollar or 59 cents each bags) one isle away from the chips and soda, so that all edible products (I'm being careful not to call candy and soda food here) are in the same area. But not any more, there is now three isles of seasonal products and fans separating the sugary snacks from the salty ones. Their selection of products needs constant restocking, as the shelves are often bare in certain sections for days on end. Alright, its been rainy, so everyone is having ant problems, so I understand they could be sold out of ant traps (they sell their brand and Raid brand) but being sold out for weeks? I check just about everyday. The pharmacy staff are way too rough around the edges, when you go to drop off a prescription, they ignore you for a good give minutes well they complain about customers and their coworkers using not so professional language, CVS must have a very relaxed behavior policy if you can call people expletives at work. Once they have filled your prescription its again a long time of being ignore while you wait to pick it up. One morning before work I was dropping off a prescription and an elderly man working there flipped out on me for walking in the store! Apparently they just mopped the floors but never put down a caution wet sign so how was I supposed to know? Instead of saying he just mopped the floor, it took him a half dozens times yelling at me to even tell me why. The only reason I go here is its convenient being around the corner from my apartment. read more

This review is based solely on the remodel. What is going on? The set up is confusing, lacking any kind of sensible organization and basically just plain ugly. I'll hike the extra half a mile to go to the one in Poter Square now. I like the Pharmacy. I hate that if I want to go to a cashier, they direct me to self check out and never smile. If something goes wrong with self checkout they don't even acknowledge your existence and just fix the machine. I asked once where something was and the person went, 'that's not my department, ask someone up front.' I gave them three stars instead of two because they don't have one of those things that buzz when you try to get deodorant. read more

I frequent this establishment often, almost on a daily basis. Mostly because i live two blocks away and it's the closest convenience. I know most people aren't happy with the remodel that was recently done, but i don't think it's THAT bad. It took me awhile to get used to the changes but once i figured out where everything moved too, i don't even think twice about how it used to be. I'm torn on the self check-out topic. I sort of like the fact that my purchases are only viewed by me and won't be judged by the cashier for those days when i buy too much candy or stock up on feminine products. BUT i'd like to have the option of not "working" for CVS and checking myself out. I've found that the people who do work there are very nice and helpful. i haven't had a bad experience at the pharmacy or in the aisles. Anytime I've looked lost, I've been asked by an employee if i need assistance and i'm a sucker for good customer service. read more

Not reliable as a go-to pharmacy. I attempted to get my prescription filled here several times over the last year, often without success. Two or three times they said that they were out of my (common) medication, and that I would have to go to another pharmacy in person to check availability because they were not allowed to call other CVS locations regarding the availability of a controlled substance. I later discovered that this is not true, and they just did not feel like picking up the phone. On the occasions that they did have my prescription, they would always say that it would take "at least an hour." This was often at 7:30 or 8:00 in the morning when I was on my way to work. I understand that sometimes they are very busy, but it was clear that this location had essentially given up on filling prescriptions while you wait, even if it was not busy. The Rite Aid (soon to be Walgreens) around the corner has been much faster, friendlier, and less busy. read more

Every time I come in here, knowing that I should know better, I feel like a little piece of my soul is sucked out and left behind. The staff is so bad it's difficult even to express it. It is literally the only store I have ever gone to where I was trying to check out at the register, and after five minutes an employee finally noticed me (a common wait before a staff member realizes your presence at times when there is no line), and walked me over to the self-service checkout for me to check out there. Confession: I'm a bit of a CVS addict. I can easily spend $100 in a visit, although I try very hard not to. Parents, do not send me a CVS gift card, I will spend it immediately, and not on essentials, nosiree. After moving to the Somerville area for college, I suffered from a minor bout of depression after discovering that there was no CVS in Davis Square - only a couple other, inferior pharmacy/drug stores. My freshman roommate and I tried to walk to the nearest CVS in Medford but decided never to return due to the insanely sketchy walk there. We bought our shit and rushed home. And then this beacon of goodness opened its doors in Davis Square. I've got to say, it's sort of sad that a chain type place like CVS has taken such a prominent location in a square mostly dominated by cute, locally owned businesses, but oh, the convenience! And oh, the cleanliness. And oh, the ego boost I get from the blood pressure machine (my friend and I have been looking for one of these in the area for a while, and this seems to be the only CVS that we've checked that has one!). I hope they do something about making the line less confusing, but otherwise, I am happy to have this CVS nearby. I hope it doesn't get all grungy and dark like so many other CVS stores! read more

First off, let me clarify that I'm primarily reviewing the pharmacy here. I actually rather like the rest of the store (especially the fact that, unlike most drug stores, they do have a self-check-out option). However, the pharmacy is something else. My doctor called in two prescriptions to the Davis Square CVS on a Saturday; I called a couple of hours later to see when they'd be filled. The pharmacist I dealt with was polite, easy to deal with, and remembered my prescription off the top of his head, partially because he needed to get my insurance information. So far, so good. It might've been a bad sign that he took several minutes attempting in vain to locate me in "their system", but that seems understandable. Since I was quite sick that day, I had to wait for one of my roommates to drive me to the pharmacy, and thus arrived only thirty minutes before their 8:00 closing time. When I mentioned who I was and what I was after, they fetched my prescriptions and took my insurance & ID information -- that's when the fun started. Evidently, one of my prescriptions was being rejected by my insurance. However, the pharmacist didn't think to mention what the problem was, how much the prescription was, and whether I wanted to pay out of pocket -- his primary problem-solving technique appeared to be tapping on his keyboard a bit, looking puzzled, and tapping on it a bit more...repeat ad nauseum. When, eventually, I asked what the problem was and how much the offending prescription cost, it turned out to be quite cheap -- lower, in fact, than my generic-prescription copayment. I naturally offered to just pay out of pocket -- however, the pharmacist had to go ask the other pharmacist (evidently his senior) whether I *could* pay out of pocket! This second pharmacist didn't seem to offer any cogent advice, though...she stayed at the back of the pharmacy with her back turned while most of this was going on. Somewhere in the middle of trying to figure out how to just let me pay for my drugs, the pharmacist suddenly became very concerned with closing on time (since it was now fifteen till eight), and started helping other customers rather than continuing to help me -- without really mentioning the fact, or making sure that anybody else was helping me. He evidently thought the second pharmacist was on my case, but she obviously disagreed, considering that she stayed at the back, doing whatever she'd been doing before. Having left me completely alone for several minutes, the second pharmacist offered to help another customer, and was told she needed to help me. Whew. She then proceeded to spend several minutes befuddledly typing, trying to figure out how I could pay for my $14 prescription out of pocket...at least at this point she returned me my ID, which the original pharmacist never thought to give back. After ten minutes of watching her slowly, confusedly typing, I finally got my prescriptions...I'd just spent thirty minutes attempting to pay for a prescription with cash. Now, I can understand that pharmacists probably aren't that technically savvy, and that the computer systems of pharmacies can be complex. But to take so long to do something so minor -- and to show such an appalling lack of concern for customer service while doing so -- is just unforgiveable, in my book. I'm going elsewhere for my prescriptions in the future. read more

Went to this cvs just a few minutes ago and the manager with the white shirt was extremely kind and helpful. I couldn't seem to scan the bar code so he took me right over to the register and rang me up. He apologized, but honestly was so much faster than when I try to do it myself. I think this man deserves some recognition because I worked in retail and and handling employees and customers can be hard, but he was super kind! read more

Went in here for a poncho, came out with a defective, sad excuse for one. Service was good, product is unreliable.

First: this is really a review of the pharmacy, since I don't use the rest of the store much except for occasional "pick up some shampoo because it's convenient" needs. The pharmacy, though, is great. I feel guilty about supporting a big-chain pharmacy, but they've always been competent, friendly, and helpful. They'll usually fill prescriptions on the spot within five minutes (though they tell you "fifteen"), and it's rare to find more than a few people waiting in line. Plus, they're also really helpful about special requests and situations. For instance, I came in today to discover that my prescription had unexpectedly expired, and they managed to dig up an old prescription, re-activate it, and get me my medication, all with a smile and less than 10 minutes of waiting. Seriously, my only complaint about the pharmacy is that their hours are shorter than CVS as a whole -- they close by 8 on Sunday, which is annoying. But otherwise, really good staff redeem an otherwise impersonal chain. read more

This pharmacy used to be decent until recently. Recently when I picked up scripts there was a line, and the girl had me calling my personal information over people's heads because the person in front of me didn't leave quick enough, then told me I had to wait until the line was GONE before she could get me change for my big bill ("well, you'll just have to wait"). She was extremely rude. OK, fine, people have bad days. I've been there, I understand. This was three trips ago and the attitude has not changed one bit. The rest of the staff is pretty nice, but they're not the ones you interact with when picking up your order. I transferred all my scripts over to Rite Aid. There are too many pharmacies in the area to continue giving them my business. read more

I rarely think of rating franchises, but this one made quite the impression on me last night! Actually, it's the technological advances that CVS has made. I can't really comment on the layout or anything else.. But I was wowed by the self-service checkout. I am a big fan of self-service check out stations, especially at the grocery stores. My fiance makes fun of me because he says the self-check-out stations are much slower than having the cashier ding the groceries for you; and I am a need for speed kind of person. Anyway, the thing I liked about this CVS was there were plenty of self-check-out stations... and ALL of them were working! And I never bring my CVS card around (it is very bent and lost somewhere in my bedroom), and the self-check-out has the option of looking up your extracare card number by your phone number! I'm not sure what's going on with this pharmacy. They are always super-busy. Always. And the couple of times I've tired to call for my prescriptions ahead of time, the prescriptions were still not ready by the time I've stopped by (a few hours later one time, a few days later another time). The wait is always at least 30 minutes. If only the location was not so convenient, I'd go elsewhere. For now, I just try to remember to bring a book. read more

I live just around the corner from here and I must say it's very convenient and often a no hassle time getting what I want. The staff are always unnecessarily friendly; sometimes going out of their way to say hi! The store is well stocked and the only minor complaint I can give would be at the pharmacy.. sometimes those people can be hit and miss on the vibe front but hey, they likely get worked to hell and are asked like a hundred dumb questions per day, soo.. I get my prescriptions and go on my way.. what more to expect really? All in all highly recommended! read more

After waiting on hold for about 10 minutes, I was greeted by someone who huffed and puffed about my questions as if she had much better things to do than answer a query about a prescription, which by the way could only be fielded by a human being rather than the automated service. Somewhere, someone spoiled me with such outstanding medical service that I find myself getting slightly annoyed with each CVS pharmacy visit. If you want to steal someone's identity, just hang out here. Between the amount of information they request and the number of times some of the staff make you repeat it when you speak softly, the theft options are plentiful. I'm also less then impressed when there is an issue with a prescription. They'll tell you if there is a problem and follow up... a bit. You will know they're done pursuing when you stop hearing from them. I may continue to go here for the location convenience. If you're considering other options, you're likely better off elsewhere. read more

I remember being excited back when this location opened, as it would be more convenient for me than Porter Sq. I have multiple prescriptions at this CVS with monthly refills, and I have NEVER ONCE been able to pick them up normally. It is always something-- be it a lost refill, med out of stock, ordering or filling the wrong med, sending a ready for pick up text in error, etc. They once had me come in FOUR times in one day to pick up a refill that was needed urgently. No matter the effort I put into confirming it was ready for pick up, each time there was some other excuse. I have dealt with two incredibly nice, helpful pharmacists (one's Kelsey) there, but all of the rest have acted horrendously rude and incompetent. I'm now trying to get these prescripts sent back to the Porter Sq location, but have (surprise) been having difficulty with the staff. read more

I can't believe it's come to this -- reviewing a drugstore. I'm giving this gem (did I really just call a drugstore a "gem"?) four stars because it's much cleaner and more pleasant to be in than your average Somerville/Cambridge drugstore, especially that train wreck of a Brooks/Rite Aid down the street. The little green bubble-like signs even feel a little bit funky and cool. And, I can find stuff (thanks, in part the the funky green bubbles). I ripped my pants in davis, and it was so late that all the clothing stores were closed, so my only option was buying a sowing kit from cvs. Not only did the employees help me find it, but they also let me use their employee bathroom to mend my pants. Thank you CVS! read more

After literally years of trying, this pharmacy is still incapable of managing a simple automatic refill. They will fax the refill order to the wrong number (even after you've given them the right number), not get a reply from that number, and then completely neglect to tell you the refill didn't go through until you're standing in front of them. They will do this again. And again. And again. When the prescription is finally filled, they'll wait a week to inform you. The whole point of a pharmacy is that you're supposed to be able to trust them to fill your prescriptions. They have zero trust in my book and if they weren't the only pharmacy in walking distance, they would have lost my business a long, long time ago. read more

Like the self checkout, convenient to the T. Hours are pretty good, staff is always very friendly and helpful, but the CVS at Porter (within reasonable walking distance or also convenient to the T) has a larger selection and is 24-hour. read more

If this wasn't the most convenient place to pick up prescriptions, I would not go here, and even so I'm looking for a new pharmacy. The staff are unhelpful and the automatic refill program fills a new prescription for you often the day after you just picked up the old one. And then there's the call- they call at least twice a month to check if I want any other refills and call every other day when my prescription is ready. But since they refill it so early, I don't need it for several weeks, by which time they have returned it to the shelves without telling me. So I come in to pick it up, it's not there, I ask to refill and come back the next day. Then they have no record of it being refilled and yell at me for not picking it up three weeks early. And don't get me started on the remodel of the store, could you come up with a more obnoxious layout? And if I wanted to work as a checkout girl, I would get paid to do it, instead of doing CVS employees' jobs for free. Not to mention they pay two staff usually to direct people to the self pay machines and fix them when they fail every other time you check out. Urgh. read more
