I'd rather walk right past it and continue onto Harvard Square than to give them my business. I understand that a smaller store will have slightly inflated prices in comparison to chains. But anytime I've needed a convenience item from here I have more than paid for it. I ran out to purchase butter one time and ended up paying almost $7.00 for it. really? The help is always distracted, on their cell phones, or just generally putting you second to whatever they were doing. The porn behind the counter? tacky as fuck. I really don't wanna look at that when I'm trying to buy milk. The smell of Subway is about the only positive I can come up with for this store. The booze isn't a selling point as there is a liquor store much closer to my house not bending me over in the process.

It is a two level store, with the entire top floor dedicated to the pharmacy and medical section. The space is extremely nicely decorated and feels very thoughtfully designed, with a cute local feel and clear local pride throughout. There are also healthy grab and go options for a quick lunch or snack, and the food selection feels more unique than a typical convenience store, including items like fresh eggs for sale. They also sold local merch. Overall, it has much more of a local market atmosphere than a traditional CVS Pharmacy location, which makes it a really convenient and pleasant stop.

But it's still a good store because I know a lot of you love to drink and these stores are invaluable to you then basically. Pretty good selection too, and friendly enough. Prices are on the expensive side, but fairly standard for Harvard Square prices. They have the customary selection of beers, wines, liquors, and mixers, but they also have a section of Harvard apparel (like T-shirts, sweatshirts) and Harvard memorabilia (like keychains, mugs, coasters, etc), so it is a great place to also pick up some souvenirs while you are shopping for your beer! I also like that they sell accessories to complement your drinking, like plastic martini glasses and plastic shot glasses for a party. Their hours online might not necessarily reflect when you are able to buy alcohol. I walked in after 11pm one night and even though they were still open, I was told that they cannot sell alcohol after 11pm (not sure if that is only on specific nights or if this is a nightly rule).

That said this place is off the hook. I stopped in the other evening for the first time in years. I approach the register and its being run by a cussin' and smokin' punk kid with a "Charles Manson For President" T-shirt. Its been a long time since I've walked into a store and into a haze of cigarette smoke.....but anyway. In a transaction for a single (but not packaged for individual sale) Swisher (maybe Black & Mild?), a dude was due 20 cents in change. Turns out the previous person had taken the change off the counter and left. The cashier explained that he put the 20 cents on the counter but that the other customer took it.......and gave the customer his blessing if he wanted to "chase that dude down". The customer replied "naw man, thats your job". The cashier replied "What?! You want me to chase down that dude for YOUR 20 cents?". The customer mumbles something and leaves without his change. Discussion ensues between the cashier and his friends who are playing PS2 rigged through what clearly was a security camera monitor behind the counter. The cashier's sentiments were brilliant..... "f-cking faggot, thats what you get for not buying a whole pack at a time". The whole experience was comical and offensive. The guy isn't going to mince words for the sake of "store policy" or be concerned with getting "written up", he's going to tell you to f-ck off and get the hell out of the store. It was a refreshing change to the sterile corporate store experience that dominates convenience shopping today. P.S. - based on the cashier's words, should we assume this place doesn't sell gay porn?
