A horribly inefficient pharmacy. In Amherst, with the exception of Walmart and Stop & Shop, theonly pharmacies are CVS. I am shocked at how poorly managed this pharmacy is... And pretty much at all locations. They are always understaffed. I'm sure it's difficult to anticipate when there will be rushes in the store. But honestly, couldn't they figure out how to put redundant staff to work doing other things in the store during unexpected slow times? Also, the CVS on N. Pleasant St. in Amherst has over 30 parking spaces in the back specifically for Cvs Pharmacy shoppers. Yet just about every single time I go there all the spaces are taken up. And when I go into the store, with the exception of staff, there are two people in the store! When I inquired at the pharmacy about the situation, I was told that they were aware and there have been many complaints but people just park there and then goshopping around town and that there was nothing they could do to monitor it. They didn't have the resources to monitor it. Why do they bother having the spaces if no one can ever park there.?!CVS should just suck it up and figure out what to do about that for the convenience of their customers.! As many people have commented, the receipts there are utterly ridiculous and there is no reason why the receipts can't be put "on your card" instead of handing you this waste of trees every single time you go there. Who really uses these coupons? Their computer system is also a disaster... Frequently calling your home to tell you that there are multiple prescriptions ready just to go there and find out there are no prescriptions ready. Perhaps due to the understaffing of the pharmacy, the staff can be pretty abrupt. I'm changing my pharmacy to any other place I can find. Cvs Pharmacy also donates greatly to the Trump campaign. me and my friend are teenagers, and we were just coming in to buy candy and soda. we weren't bothering anyone, yet 2 separate employees were rude to us. one of them told us to stop bouncing the ball my friend had, that she wasn't bouncing, and then implied it was a repeat offense even though we had just walked in the door and had never been to the location before in our lives. another employee spoke to us like we we're stupid. we went to self checkout because we didn't really want to have to talk to the other lady who was rude to us earlier, but when we got there, i scanned our first item and put it in the bagging area. for some reason the scanner didn't put it in the system, even though it made the scanning noise and everything, so the machine started tweaking out at us to not put unscanned items in the bagging area even though I SCANNED IT. after this is started loudly telling us to get an employee, so the second rude person came over and acted like we were literal idiots. i don't think it was our fault, but even if it it was the response was not necessary. then the lady started obnoxiously explaining what a bottle deposit was even though we didn't ask and already knew what it was. read more

Worst ever!! They take lunch breaks early! I usually use the pharmacy on university dr. But they were out of amoxicillin for my 7 month old. So I rushed over here w my baby in tow, just to get a sign thrown in my face. Out to lunch. So now I'm sitting in the parking lot w my screaming 7 month old w a double ear infection waiting for someone to help me. I walked in at 1:29 and was basically laughed at by a heavy older man behind the counter. I'm not sure why the power trip is so necessary these days but it's disgusting. Zero consideration, for me, my baby, our situation. I would leave zero stars if I could. It's now 2:01 and they're still closed! I'm a minute early and you tell me no- now you're a minute late and it's like deal because I'm at your mercy. Sickening read more

Wow! I just had such a rude/lackluster service experience (my photos were all botched and the person I called couldn't muster a decent "sorry"). I called back to encourage the manager on duty to let them know, and they were even WORSE! Rude to me, then fake saccharine as they hang up. Go to University Ave. They are way better. read more

Overall, this pharmacy has everything that a regular CVS would normally have. There's no big qualms about it - it looks clean, all of the items were fully stocked, there's private parking lot in the back, the cashiers work fast. The only other thing I can comment on is the customer service. Though I personally have not interacted with any of the staff there, I have overheard a pharmacist hastily and sternly ask a customers to cash out in the front because the pharmacy section was closing. I don't think there's anything wrong with asking a customer to move to the front if you're closing a section but I feel as though they could have definitely asked a lot nicer than that. Otherwise, CVS checks all of the points for me in terms of cleanliness and convenience. Perhaps customer service not so much. Price wise, expect to pay $1-$2 extra for everything that you could regularly get at the Target or Walmart down the street. read more

I just discovered the UMass University Health Services Pharmacy and it makes me realize just how overpriced CVS is. CVS allergy+congestion medicine: 5 tablets for $6. UHS Pharmacy: antihistamine- 10 tablets, decongestant-24 tablets= about $3. Half price for more medicine. WHAT?! Plus, I've heard CVS and UMass are both trying to shut the UHS Pharmacy down come spring. And then all we'll be left with is horrible, overpriced CVS :( It makes me sad that I didn't hear about UHS Pharmacy sooner...(and why didn't they have their own yelp page??) read more

Tbh, this CVS is closet to me, so I shop here OFTEN. Staff is clueless and has no clue what is going on in real life and in general, lmao. Whenever I have a question or a return and have to deal with the front staff, I totally feel like I'm in the twilight zone. They are very nice people at front check out, just not too bright. The pharmacy staff(except for the male pharmacist, he's amazing!!!!) is Absolutely rude and in personable. They have absolutely no common courtesy and no personalities. Not anyone I wanna deal With in a day if I don't have to. Just go out of their way to be like extra rude and grumpy. read more

A decent enough pharmacy, what has us in here most of the time is that it's the largest convenience store in the center of town, and in short walking distance to our home. However: those 10 PM hours? Don't believe it. Starting at 9:30, they shut down the registers (I'm given to understand because the company is too cheap to pay their managers that extra 15 minutes to count the cashboxes after closing). This has the unfortunate result of people clustering around the self-serve checkout kiosks, which are horribly programmed and constantly glitching, and the ludicrous effect of store employees hovering around the stations clearing the freezeups. I'd strongly advise late night traffic to head for the 24-hr Cumbies on College St, or the Amherst Convenience at the end of Triangle St ... or heck, the Hadley Stop & Shop is open until midnight. read more

He said he needed a new insurance card (he has it) Needs a dr to verify prescription. Insurance company called him immediately, I called back to check and Rachel was just as rude! Conveniently located right near a bus stop (sure-- the bus stop of a horribly inconvenient bus system) and across from a Starbucks. Just your basic good ol' CVS.. Slightly pricier than the Target in South Hadley, but they've got a great nailpolish selection and I gotta give love to my CVS. read more

New to town, with a complicated set of scripts for my various family members, they make it easy and reliable, with just enough of a friendly, personal touch to really feel good. They offer advice at the right moments, provide a fast turnaround tailored to my schedule. Their text msg notifications are helpful. They are professional, discreet, polite, well-informed, and never leave me feeling doubtful or annoyed as I often did before coming to Amherst. Just received fantastic customer service from a young woman named Jalecia. She was efficient and kind and so helpful even though the pharmacy was really busy. The other pharmacist, Charles, on the other hand, was very abrasive and unhelpful. He appeared, actually, to inhibit her helping other customers. Wish I could just come here for Jalecia! read more

The most inefficient Pharmacy I have ever been to and one of the least caring. I visited town with prescriptions to fill. I got one call that three were ready. Then another call that my insurance was wrong. When I called they said it was a mistake. When I came to pick up the prescriptions they weren't ready. No one was apologetic about this. They said casually that it would take "at least 20 minutes.." It took longer. A fourth prescription, which was to be filled later, had been carefully called in by my doctor When I called about it, what I got was a curt "Sorry, we don't have anything like that on record." I called my doctor and her administrative assistant, who said they had called the pharmacy three times, told me that they were so inefficient it would be better to wait until I came home. Aside from any difficulties, there was NO sense of caring, of apology, of compassion, of giving me any benefit of the doubt, or any human curiosity when I said that I'd gotten a call that a prescription was ready, or that my doctor had called three times. There was simply no caring at all.. I know Amherst and have friends in this town. But I will never got to this CVS Pharmacy again--not even to buy aspirin. read more

This pharmacy is part of a large chain (YELP has no category for pharmacies or drug stores.) The prescription drug counter is excellent. They'll call your doctor, they'll call your insurance co. to resolve problems. They'll call you at home when a prescription is ready. The pharmacists are helpful and courteous. Not so good is the store atmosphere. They play (very loud) music that could only be described --- as one pharmacist described it to me --- as "lower class trash." It is really abominable. Then, almost every minute or so, a voice comes over the speakers urging you to buy this or buy that. This is the kind of thing that forced K-Mart into bankruptcy. The voices are loud and obnoxious. The store has a wide selection of reasonably-priced merchandise, but nobody I know will go near it because the shopping atmosphere is so awful. read more

If I could rate this CVS zero stars, that would be more accurate. Every single time I try to fill a prescription at this location, it is a complete fiasco. I will call to confirm my meds are ready only to drive there and discover that no one has even started on my order. Every time I try to fill a specific prescription that I get monthly, it is such a hassle. CVS claims that they never received a prescription from my doctor even though the office sends it to them multiple times. It once took an entire month of calls to get this prescription filled. I saw my doctor yesterday and she sent my script right over. Of course CVS "never received" it. She sent it a total of six times and had to speak to multiple people in order to ensure that it was filled. All for simple eye drops! The only way to know for sure that your prescription will get filled is to get a paper script from your doctor, bring it there in person, and wait. read more

Dangerously spotty professionalism. Friendly people but always seem to be unsure about what they're supposed to be doing. Every time I've gone in to pick up my medications, they tell me they either were already filled and/or picked up. I then have to wait, thinking I won't be able to get my medication for a month, while they call the insurance company to figure/straighten things out. I would be more ok with this if it weren't a store that dealt with serious medications that help people function on a daily basis. This CVS location has the WORST pharmacy I have ever been to. I have not once in my 3 years as a UMass student, had a good experience there. Their staff tends to be extremely slow, even when the line stretches down isles in the store. On at least 4 different occasions they have promised me my prescription and not had it available when they said they would. Also, especially during the beginning of the school year, they don't ever seem to be prepared to stock items popular for students (such as power strips, plungers or lighters). Target is cheaper but if you need a CVS the one on University Drive is much better. read more

My wife was sick over a long period of time, some 18 months. Cancer eventually got the better of her. The pharmacists at CVS were always there for us when we needed a prescription and went out of their way to get deliveries from nearby stores if they did not have in stock what we needed. And after my wife succumbed, they sent a personal note saying how sorry they were. I can't thank them enough for their thoughtfulness over those many months and for the totally unexpected card. read more
