    The bestest bear!

Went for my dog's OFA advanced cardiac exam/echo with hopes of a normal heart on my dog who has gotten the short end of the genetic stick despite solid, reputable breeding(sometimes that's how it goes). Good news, her heart is beautiful! While it wasn't a sick visit and I truly hope I never see you guys again, I appreciate the clear communication both by the tech to get us checked in and by the vet going over the results of the exam/echo. They are still curbside only and while I'm sure a lot of people may be wanting to come inside I appreciate being able to sit in my car to work on other stuff, listen to music and bonus my dog has a new experience meeting new people in a positive environment. The doctor was very clear and informative and I did not feel rushed at all. There was good communication/expectations about protocol including having the form to fill out the animal's medical history emailed so I could do it a week in advance, quick checkin/process. Would 120% go back if I ever had an animal with heart issues(God willing I never will).

I wouldn't take my 15 year old chihuahua anywhere else for her cardiac care. The staff and doctors are professional, friendly, and caring.

When she arrived, my baby had a rush of energy and wanted to play outside in the grass. She assured me that it was okay to take our time and let her enjoy outside one last time. We sat and she listened to my stories about her life, and when she wanted to go inside, we went in and she was given the sedative. She was so peaceful and laid in her bed. Then, she passed while the doctor and I talked about her life and how wonderful she was. It was the hardest day of my life, but the easiest day of my sweet baby Gracie's. It was worth every penny. I have never seen such a peaceful ending. There are not words big enough to communicate my gratitude. The end of her life was so sacred, which is more than most of us people get. This has helped my grieving process immensely. I know for certain this was the best ending that could have been for my sweet angel. Thank you so much.

My usual vet, who we have been seeing since adopting the cat almost 2 years ago, rudely dismissed my concerns over the phone and insisted that I needed to pay an $80 office visit fee just to get an answer to my question over the phone (the question was "What does the PCR panel test for?"). I started calling every other vet in Austin to find a clinic that has experience with Tritrichomonas and that I felt comfortable with. Several clinics admitted that they did not know what the parasite was or had never treated it before. Another lied and said "oh, that is super easy to treat and really common and straightforward!" which I knew was not accurate from the empirical literature online. I finally found Austin Urban Vet and the experience we have had so far has genuinely been night and day different from pervious clinics. From the very first call, the AUV team was empathetic to our situation, VERY transparent about pricing (they provided it in writing), and explicitly clear about which PCR diagnostic panel they use at AUV and exactly what it tests for. They were open and honest about their experience with Tritrichomonas and I immediately felt at ease and confident in the care that they could provide my cat. After chatting with my partner about my findings from calling almost every vet in Austin, we both agreed Austin Urban Vet was the best one to move forward with, so we made an appointment. Right off the bat, I was happy to find that AUV has a private parking lot (for free!). I headed inside with my cat and the team at the front desk was so kind and helpful. They quickly checked me in and invited me to grab a bottle of water or make myself a cup of coffee as I waited for the tech to take us into the room. We waited for maybe ~5 minutes before the tech took us to the exam room, where she scanned my cat for her microchip, weighed her, and asked questions about the presenting problem, history, etc. Dr. Helen was who attended us for the exam itself, and she was so kind and thorough. I really felt that she was providing genuine feedback, and she was honest about her experience with this parasite. She was transparent about the treatment plan and let me know her general thoughts (Ie., "If she is still positive, we will do X. If she is negative, we can try Y.") We are now waiting for the PCR results, but so far, I am so happy with our experience and feel confident that Dr. Helen will provide us with the best care possible.

Most recently we've worked with a newer Dr, Dr Johnson and he's a perfect fit to compliment the rest of the Drs - we love working with him, he's patient, knowledgeable and empathetic and that means everything in the business of treating neglected senior dogs that come through our local shelters. SOUTH PARK ANIMAL HOSPITAL is now owned by a VENTURE CAPITAL FIRM called National Veterinary Associates, which in turn is owned by JAB Holding company, JAB has tripled in size since it started buying up vets and charging confiscatory prices, taking advantage of our love of our pets. I gave them two stars because at least they did my cat right and he's fine now. BUT they started burying me in pitch emails too, trying to feed fear about my cat's health, constantly trawling me for more money, more money, more money, all while pretending to care about my cat when they don't. If the people at South Park Animal Hospital really loved animals as much as they love MONEY, they wouldn't have sold out. But they did. I will never go back and suggest you don't start.
