BUYER BEWARE. I hired Cutting Edge to install custom motorized roller shades in my home in 2016. I caution you from trusting any 5 star reviews because they threatened to withhold my refund if I wrote a bad review. I ended up suing Cutting Edge for their shoddy work and was awarded the full refund including court costs from the judge. Their installer permanently damaged my brand new window frames by drilling over 100 holes during the "fitting phase" and Cutting Edge's "custom" design solution for my windows was a joke. The total project was quoted over $18K. I tried tirelessly to get this issue fixed for 11 months. Cutting Edge (Dan, Gavin, and Mike) were rude, unprofessional, and as I mentioned above, tried to bully me. I did my own research and found a proper mounting and bracket solution which I presented to Cutting Edge as a possible cure. They rejected the solution and told me it wouldn't work. After months of waiting (and with these unsightly improper shades on my windows) I went ahead with another installer and ordered the correct brackets. When I let Cutting Edge know this they snidely remarked that if in fact what we ordered worked they would refund my money and send me a "$500 gift certificate to the restaurant of my choice". For the record, this solution worked and is beautiful. I have yet to receive said gift certificate. read more

It defeats the purpose if I change or remove a review. Your company did the job well, but the way that it was carried out was below my standards. Looking at the reviews that followed mine, it seems that they've had a better experience with you. That is the case from time to time. I do wish your company the best. I have other thoughts, but I think I've said all I have to say. 1. Businesses usually do not charge to come out and give a quote. For instance, I currently have carpet cleaning done at the office and they came from San Mateo to San Jose to give a quote. No charge or talk of charge. How is it fair that you charge for assessment only if we were to use your company? So the other companies that call out for a quote, you do not charge them if they do not use you? Is this correct? 2. Your business is to repair a job, not to annouce to the world that it fell down because we placed a screen on it. To be perfectly frank, that is not the reason why it fell. So please keep this professional. 3. Vans, labor, gas, auto insurance, medical insurance, tools, screws, and rent. Understandable that a business has to conduct within their financial means. Just please don't say one thing and do the other. I base this on onsite arrival and installation. When your men came, it literally took them 30 minutes to put half the screen back up. You can say it lasted an hour, but you were not here installing it. 4. To clarify further, you said this was a 1 hour job. 2007: I have used them to put blinds and roller shades in my home twice. Once when we moved initially moved in and then after a remodel. I believe the actual owner came out to measure all my windows and sliding doors. This even before he new I was going to be a customer. There was no charge for coming out to give me a quote. Very patient and allowed me to keep quite a number of sample books at my home until I made up my mind. When I made up my mind (finally), his prices were very reasonable, especially for the level of service I received. The installers were friendly and professional, they cleaned up after themselves. (My pet peeve about contractors of any kind). I will use them again and most definitely for any business I would own. I hired Cutting Edge to install the shades in my new home. The owner, Gavin, is honest with high integrity. The workers are politely and professional. The quality of work of is top-notch. They covered the furniture and floor and always cleaned up after each job. A couple of months ago I needed a couple of drop down shades for my home theater room. I had setup a projector with a large screen, and the room needed to have better light control during the day. I contacted Dan @ Cutting Edge and he promptly came out, measured the windows and offered me an amazing deal. Originally, since these windows were about 20 feet off the ground I had asked Dan for shades with electric motors. However, Dan took the time and explained the most cost effective solution -- chain control. Recommended to us by an architect in town as the folks who know their business best and deliver. Professional, helpful, efficient, superb design, install, and post-install support. After seeing our unit, they stepped out of their box a bit to give us some design advice when we asked. They clearly "got" what we were trying to do, and proposed a few design changes that were simpler (and actually less costly than what some other folks had proposed). Their pricing was competitive vs. others with no need for back and forth. Their install was flawless and professional. The folks we worked with were all very personable and helpful. They came out twice, very quickly, for warranty support when one roller shade failed over two years, no questions asked. Could not recommend a contractor more highly. For those who care, they installed several motorized shades with wireless control and timers on 10'x10' windows in sunny SOMA location. They came up with some interesting ideas for floating panels of solar shade fabric in one location that met our design needs, took us to their showroom when we were navel-gazing over some small issues, and gave us good advice not to install boxes around our roller shades. The QMotion shades that we purchased have been working well for over a year. During the sales process, I never felt like Gavin was trying to get us to buy something we didn't need (he actually talked us out of getting some smaller shades), and the installer, Justin, was among the most professional that I've worked with. About a year after the original installation, we had an issue replacing the batteries that they helped us resolve in a timely and professional manner, so it's clear they stand behind the products they sell. Recently, I requested a quote from Cutting Edge Drapery for five automatic shades. They quickly sent someone out to carefully measure my windows and then shortly thereafter I received a quote from them with numerous material samples. We requested even more samples and then placed an order for 3 Sheerweave window shades, 1 opaque window shade and 1 opaque skylight shade. Gavin and the installation staff were extremely polite, courteous and accommodating. The installation went smoothly but once the shades were up we realized that we needed an even wider shade to limit the light in our bedroom.
