So, this is a hard post for me to do because my husband and I were initially very pleased with the communication and attention that this company gave us to get a quote. The first time they came out, they were only able to speak to my husband and they mentioned to him that they would like to come back out to make sure everything they addressed with him was alright with me. (Which is fantastic that they want to include everyone in the project.) Perfect, I call and reschedule to have Brandon come out to make sure everyone was on the same page as to what the project would entail. (Which again, is perfect). However, the moment we mentioned that we were still waiting on another bid to come in so we can make a knowledgeable pick of which contractor to go with; that not only suited our needs for this current project and future ones but our budget as well; Brandon completely shut down his computer and professionalism down and basically stormed out of our house. Now, I can understand the frustration and maybe interpretation of wasting his time but as our project and future ones go well over 100k, I would assume he would be more understanding on us wanting more than just one quote on such a large project. The experience was disheartening to say the least, especially since my husband and I were leaning towards them in the first place but wanted to make sure it was the right fit. I cannot tell you about their workmanship as we did not get that far. We had them out to do a bid of residing our house. Showed them what we wanted to have done. Part of the work included siding an ADU that would be built alongside the house. Was told they would measure the house and asked if they could get the dimensions of the ADU. I went inside to print that information and as I was doing so they got back into their truck and drove away without a word. Seriously?!? Today one of the guys called to say they decided not to bid. Yeah, we sort of figured that out when they drove off. They said it was because it would be too far out (time wise) since we were just starting the permitting process for the ADU. They couldn't be bothered to knock on the door and tell us that, or wait until I came back out with the information they asked me for? How completely rude and unprofessional! read more

I remember always seeing the Cutting Edge Contracting ads in TheHomeMag. Their magazine & vehicle branding is hard to miss...which invokes words like unique, bold, proud, confident, and experienced. So when the time came to remodel our home this year, we reached out to Cutting Edge. We soon learned that they were all those words and MUCH more. Our 1998 Washougal home was showing its age, and from Dec' 2020 to May 2021, Cutting Edge breathed incredible new life into it. It's not a stretch to say they created a total transformation. They were involved in complete siding & plank replacement, stone/masonry throughout the home, roof replacement, and exterior paint. Here's what we love about Cutting Edge: 1. They know their stuff. They are total professionals with quality materials, quality workers, and quality craftsmanship. This is super important and it should go without saying, but for us this was our only home and it was important for us to invite a company to work on it that would take great care of it. 2. They know their customers. This is the biggest project we've ever undertaken. There were so many moving parts to it, so many timelines, and SO many people involved...we were so grateful that we were made to feel important throughout the entire process. They were patient with every single question, comment or thought that we had, and they asked plenty of their own and shared their expert opinion in order to make sure what we wanted came to life. They explained their processes so you know the "why" behind what they do. They don't just care about something looking right cosmetically, it also has to be right functionally and for the long haul. In a time when a pandemic led to more families choosing to stay put and put renovate, which in turn leads to multiple projects going at the same time, or material shortages, we always felt like we mattered and weren't forgotten. Phone calls and text messages were always promptly returned. We didn't have to wait hours or days, and that brought so much peace of mind. 3. They are just good people. Period. And we can say this confidently because Cutting Edge only had their hands on the exterior of the home. We had a whole set of other people doing the interior, and sometimes you get an occasional worker that doesn't seem to care, or makes mistakes, or isn't passionate about what they do. Called to request a quote and they seemed super professional about lining up an Appointment. Brandon came out and gave me a verbal estimate. I wanted something in writing to give to my insurance company and He wanted me to sign some kind of contract. When I refused he got mad and left. Shortly after the very nice office person Quinn called me to tell me they weren't interested in the job. We selected Cutting Edge Contracting to replace all the old aluminum windows in our house in Ridgefield. We received 4 different bids. One was less, one was more, and one didn't provide the detail needed to assess the bids. What distinguished Cutting Edge was their professionalism and the extra service - our window trim was mediocre at best and they were the only contractor to bid on replacing both interior and exterior trim. The workers were great. Hard working. Courteous. Friendly but business-like. The install was top-notch - no issues. Some of our old cedar siding had to be replaced on two bump outs. Cutting Edge replaced it with Hardie Plank and it looks just like the cedar it replaced. They used James' Hardie's recommended caulk that is very elastic - not the hard, brittle caulk you so often see. They nailed the Hardie Plank with finish nails to help prevent cracking (a big plus - we paint houses and we are always seeing cracked Hardie siding due to poor nailing). They also wrapped the exposed areas prior to replacing the old cedar. Their attention to detail was very much appreciated. During installation we found some other siding boards that had lost contact with the trim board, leaving almost an inch gap. Cutting Edge re-shimmed those boards, re-installed new trim and re-caulked the old cedar to the new trim and it looks better than before. Water, bug, bird and rodent tight! They also explained everything they did and why they did it that way. Very open to questions. They didn't take short cuts. The walk through was thorough. We asked for some adjustment on the window trim and they happily did it. The workers are to be commended for working so hard during a very rainy week. It rained almost constantly. But we didn't get water in the house and they worked very hard. I would not hesitate to use Cutting Edge Contracting again and I recommend them without reservation. read more

I obviously have hired the job out at an additional expense since then, and quite frankly, i wouldn't allow your people to touch a single board on my house after my experience. And you are incorrect in stating that the work was finished per my instruction. I NEVER instructed anyone to paint my deck or my neighbors garage. They certainly didn't instruct that either, and to date, your company has made no attempt in rectifying that situation with them. And in fact the issues were NOT fixed--we agreed to part ways so my house was not further damaged, not to mention the safety of my dog who could have died due to the mess and carelessness of your crew. With many bids we found Cutting Edge with Home Advisor to be the most reasonable priced business. The first project we picked was to have our siding and upper deck replaced. The project turned out to be awesome as the follow up and check ins of how the project was going made for a great experience with Cutting Edge. Since that project in 2016 we have asked them to come back and replace the fencing around the pool to match the deck that was replaced and our front porch to match also. I had this company do a lot of work to my house, they did my siding, roof,gutters, built a fence, drywall my garage ceiling, install a new 8' window, and painted my entire house. It's been about a year since all this work took place. Dealing with them was very easy and overall they did a good job even came back to install a missed downspout. However now that a year has passed, I have noticed some defects in the workmanship. The window they installed passes cold air in the winter and on windy days I can feel the cold air pouring in. The downspout over my deck drips in a hard to repair spot. I would have to take the whole thing down to really fix it. This is one really chaps me I had them build a double gate fence. The fence is already sagging badly and very uneven. The gate is all bowed out on the bottom and wont last very long. The white gutters are all stained now from the rain running off the new roof tiles On the flip side the roof is solid for now and the siding and paint turned out great. Overall for 50k I know I could have done better. Think before you ink with these guys. read more

Overall the mission of pulling off the old siding and waterproofing the walls was accomplished very well. There were no cracks in the Hardie planks from large nails. The flashing over the windows and along the porch floor overlaps twice as much as before. The workers came on site as scheduled and stayed till the completion of the job. However I feel I should comment on the finishing touches: -because of the rot damage to the chipboard, 2 windows were pulled out to replace the chipboard. The kitchen window was re-installed off-center by .5 inch which created a gap to the drywall. Brandon raised his voice saying how "un-cool" I was and how that was not his responsibility to fix and that he could charge $200/window to re-install. In the end, he caulked the window without charge. Message to the next guy: put in your contract that the windows will be reinstalled, centered with inside grouting, at no extra charge. -I regret that I was gone for much of the tear-down day. Put in your contract that you want to inspect the studs beneath the chip boards when the rotten chip board is removed. The installers were quick to install new chip board; I got the feeling that they were under contract to finish the job and not be concerned with rotten studs that would stop the progress of the job. -Cutting Edge knew the only reason I called them for a quote is because a driver for a Hardie plank distributor (Lansing) lived 3 doors away. Cutting Edge bought the Hardie plank from another distributor. Disappointing. Put it in your contract if you have this request. -Other finishing issues: -a piece broke on the plastic trim of the living room window, -a gap in the garage door frame, which I fixed. -white caulk and correct-color Hardie caulk were both used on site with Hardie caulk tubes left over. I painted the white caulk. -all flashing is white which requires painting the siding color. I painted the lower flashings. Put this in your contract. Brandon claims we were not here when the workers finished and thus the completion checklist was not done. This is not true. They left after finishing the siding; the checklist was in a binder by the garbage can. When we were signing the contract, Brandon handed me the contract which I signed; he tore off a copy without his signing it to give to me. Then I asked him to sign it which he did. Could be an oversight; just be aware. Like I said, the mission of waterproofing was done well. It's the finishing touches that could use improvement. read more

We need a new roof. Had cutting edge out for an estimate. Salesman was a little rude on the phone setting up estimate. Came to give estimate and was demeaning to my wife and I. Set up follow up appointment to go over quote. Was the first of five quotes I had set up. He was shocked that I was ready to sign right then. I told him he quite was a little higher than expected. His reply was that just what it costs. The other 4 quotes were 40% lower than Cutting Edge. When the sales man called to check on our decision he bad mouthed the other companies and then said "have a nice frickin day" and hung up on my wife. No class and overpriced. read more

This review has to do with the company's professionalism at setting and getting appointments. I made an appointment for 10/6 at 10 AM to have cutting edge come out and put a bid on replacing my roof. At 10:30 I called their office and was told that the appointment had been scheduled for 10:30. About 5 minutes later the estimator called and apologized for overlooking my appointment, he was about an hour away and asked if he could reschedule for 11:30, and I agreed. He called back 10 minutes later and asked if he could set the appointment for 3 pm, which I again agreed. He did meet the appointment for 3 pm however about 10 minutes into the process of talking about his company, without even going on the roof, he got a call and had to leave, asking if he could reschedule for Wednesday 10/11 at 10 AM. I felt that was weird by agreed. It is now 12:45 PM on 10/11 and Cutting Edge was a no-call, no-show. Ordinarily I would call the company to see if their was a problem however if the company can't get this part right then who knows what a colossal mess their roofers make. Only reviewed 1 star because I could not figure out how to get negative stars. read more

Not impressed. They sent 2 guys over playing the good cop / bad cop routine and a bit too fast talking discussing this and that about my project. I told them I was getting several bids for my roof . gutters, vents , flashing etc. They then pressured me to make a follow up appointment in person the following week. I called the day before as I had a conflict and asked them to send me a bid via email. They said they don't do that ? I've never had a contractor unwilling to send an Email bid ?? I asked why ? It saves TIME!! I figured they'd rather pressure me in person with the hard sell. So I said I wouldn't use their company and the dude hung up on me ASAP before I could finish !!! I called back and reminded him that it's terrible customer service to hang up on anyone. They think I just fell off the turnip truck when in fact it's the quick talking, pressure tactics and lack of cooperation that sealed their doom. I would NEVER recommend them to anyone. A total waste of my time and why not Email bids ? Add this one too. After this episode of being hung up on I got 3 quick calls in a row, like pressure man !!! I give Cutting Edge A5 star review for several reasons period One open communication wonderful personalities and the products that they use are top-quality. Granted you pay for that top quality but I'll never have to worry about the roof again not in my lifetime anyway. They have good warranty on their labor and a course there is the warranty on the products from that company but all and all what's important to me is it when I hand over that money I feel good about it and it enjoyed the process and I feel as though we partnered together very very well. Not one scrap of anything was left behind it was cleaned perfectly not any plans were damaged they covered everything they were just exactly what you would want in a roofing company. We own another home and when it's time to do that roof I'm sure we'll be talking to Cutting Edge. Two gentleman were doing neighborhood sales calls. They blatantly ignored the no solicitation signs on many homes and rang doorbells anyway. If the product is good and worth considering, please leave info in the mailbox or on the door of homes that have no soliciting signs. The signs are there for a reason. Waking my child, interrupting family dinner hour (which it was in this case), or being rude when asked why you chose to ignore my sign do not earn you any business. The only other possible impression is that you couldn't read the sign and a lack of literacy does not inspire confidence in hiring your company for any purpose. Also, small neighborhoods share information, start relying on the good information of one client spreading rather than being thrown out of any consideration by all of them from something as ridiculous as ignoring a potential clients very first request to not be solicited by doorbell. read more

This was an example of over promise and under deliver. Josh (the CFO and chief sales guy) said just about anything up front to earn our business. Things like staying in communication throughout the process, having his experienced contractor oversee the project (israel) and picking up the metal after the project was completed. Well, none of those things took place and the workers even caused some damage to the paint and the venting on the roof. They did fix the damaged belly boarding but have yet to straighten the vent. They disconnected the satellite dish and did some damage there too. The big post-project issue was finding large nails protruding from under the eaves of the roof leaving unsightly chips and nails showing...they brushed this off saying that the longer nails were a requirement now...wish they had told me what it would look like up front and now I'm left to find a solution. I would not recommend this company nor would I use them again for anything. The job was about average and they did complete the work in the estimated time...although they moved the date up about a month from the original date. Other neighbors in the community where I lived also used this company to replace their roofs and found similar issues with their communication, timeliness and clean up efforts. Poor on-site supervision and post-project inspections led to the myriad of issues they and I all had. I am "cutting" Cutting Edge from my Rolodex of go-to contractors! read more
