Unfortunately I had a very bad experience here. I was switching up Barbers because I wanted a place that was near Trader Joe's where I go food shopping. The haircutter (I don't think he was the main guy, but still!) did not cut my hair short enough as I had asked. I normally get the 2 faded down to a 1 but this was like a 3 faded down to a 2. To boot, he used this machine to shape my hair in the back that left my skin feeling raw for several days. It kinda looked like an electronic lint-remover with holes that I guess was meant to trim your hair to the skin, but seriously my skin was so irritated by it and I do not have sensitive skin. I also felt that he was rough with my hair/head when giving me the cut, and it ended up costing me $25 - when I normally go to a local barber in Courtelyou and get an excellent haircut for just $13. David is patient and is a master at bus craft -- I also like the fact that he owns this barber shop and also cuts hair. Some barber shops are owned by far flung owners who rarely visit. To me it's honestly insane that I had to wait forty minutes even though I was the next client in line. There are barbers that take the time and I respect that, but one of the guys went out to get a bottle of juice and the other one did the whole haircut with scissors cutting little by little, he seemed nervous or slightly confused on what to do. I've had an ugly comb-over for the past 60 years (I'm 81). I've wanted to shave it off for a long time, since I perpetually wore a hat to prevent the wind from an embarrassing revelation, the kind the former Mayor Giuliani had when the wind blew and showed us that he was mostly bald. But it's scary to shave your hair when you've had at least some follicles for a lifetime. Took the plunge: sat in David's chair after reading rave reviews about him, and wham! I was in the neighborhood for a doctors appointment and was in need of a haircut, especially with Thanksgiving coming up. I opened Yelp and found this place was close by so I decided to check it out. I'm usually pretty skeptical when trying out a new barber but the glowing reviews on here convinced me otherwise. I was greeted by Dave, the owner as he was wrapping up a cut. I waited a few minutes before being called and told Dave what I wanted: zero fade, high and tight-- nothing off the top. He delivered exactly that. He's a magician with the buzzer and I got one of the best fades I've gotten in a long while. In addition, he's a nice, friendly guy. Out of frustration and inconsistent hair cuts I use to get, I decided to try this place and am glad I did. I was hesitant at first because I was accustomed to the factory down the street, but have now become a regular. These guys are great. The level of service is impeccable. They're really friendly, patient, and actually care to get to know their customers. That's what I was missing from the other neighborhood shop. Aside from the friendly atmosphere, they give great haircuts, especially Dave. I'm picky when it comes to hair since a lot of barbers (and even stylists) tend to mess up short (asian) hair. This place definitely gives the best haircuts for the money. If you're in the area or are frustrated with the other options around here like I was, you gotta go with Dave and the crew. I wanted to wait before posting a review until I got a cut here three times. The place is clean, the tunes are good, they have a flat screen TV, and my haircut has been spot on every time. Dave (the owner I guess) confidently cut my hair and gave me a nice straight-edge razor neck shave at the end. I was a loyal customer of the other local barbershop a few blocks away-- and still love their style-- but I haven't waited more than 2 minutes to get my cut here, for the same price, and for the same quality. I think it's really important to support this local business. Next door at the chain haircut place, they'll charge you more for a cut that's twice the amount of time. This place should stick around... so bring the kids, bring a friend... let's keep them up! And for those that care-- I know I do-- this place may seem very sporty and bro-y... but they welcome and accept all types of guys. read more

I never told the guy to touch the top but he asked to trim it then just kept cutting and cutting until he chopped off an inch which I did not want. He put gel so I couldn't tell if it was that keeping looking to small and for thirty dollars this was not a good haircut. Save your money go somewhere else read more

This is a great find in a prime location. A good barber is hard to find, a great one is even harder; but Cutting Edge is the best. Dave (owner) is friendly, experienced, and knows exactly what he's doing! This place is the best! We've tried many of the barbers in Brooklyn Heights but highly recommend Cutting Edge especially for kids. Our young son is not fond of haircuts but Dave is absolutely amazing. He may have missed his calling as a teacher. He plays games with the kids. Worse haircuts if you are African American. Do not go if you are African American, they will not know what they are doing. I came here thinking everything would be good but no. The barber completely messed up a fade. He messed up my hairline and cut it too low even after I tried to stop him. It was to late to because he was already to far and told me he would make it better and made everything worse. I absolutely do not recommend this place for African Americans. read more

The owner handled my Yelp review amazingly well. He gave my friend a full refund and was very apologetic. Unfortunately for me, it doesn't change the fact his employee was dismissive and literally cut my friend during a shave then tried to blame it on his skin and closeness of the shave.
