When I wandered into J&P I was actually walking to another barbershop. Needed a local expert closer to home than my regular guys in the city. There was an elder already with another older gentleman. While he was cutting away, I wondered if he could finesse my beard. It was then Gene walked in, a bald dark-skinned stocky man, chatted quickly then got out his crisp white barbers jacket. I was the first in his chair that day and when I looked up almost hour later I marveled in the detail he put into my hair with the clippers, then his expert and steady hand with the straight razor. I looked into the mirror when he was done, now well past an hour after he started and was more than satisfied with my cut, I also knew this was my guy. The time spent in Gene's chair is worth more than the cut. You are sitting with a bonafide professional. I'm not going anywhere.

I showed a picture of how my hair was a month ago prior to the cut, explaining I only needed a maintenance cut, and the style I currently had (60/40 wavy split) is one I'd like to keep. He instantly nodded and seemed to understand everything I was asking, including length of the sides. By the end of the haircut, he had trimmed half of my hair off, front and back, killing the volume I had and gave me a high fade which I never asked for. My hair is now completely flat with no waves, super short where it looks like a military buzz, and the back of my head is now all the same length despite me asking for layering. I'm going to have to wear a cap for the next 2 months. It looks like a cheap haircut you can get anywhere for $15 instead of the $50 I paid. Completely amateurish and fraudulent. How does the barbershop even vet their hires? Incredibly deceiving and under qualified to label themselves as "master barbers" on their website. Do not recommend and do NOT let their video marketing on social media fool you. Get away especially if you're getting ready for an event, a date, weddings, interviews, etc. A salon with licensed stylists will do you better.

Do not get your haircut with the Russian woman. I explained…read moremultiple times exactly what I wanted: a low skin fade. I even told her at least five times that I wanted the sides down to the skin, basically a #0 fade. Somehow she still didn't understand and, after she was already cutting, said, "Oh, I thought you didn't want skin." To make matters worse, the haircut is uneven. One side is noticeably shorter than the other, and the fade doesn't match at all. It honestly looks like two different haircuts. I'm starting a new job and specifically came in because I wanted to look sharp and professional for my first day. Instead, I walked out embarrassed and now have to find another barber to try to fix it. If you go here, be VERY CAREFUL and make sure you're both on the same page before they start cutting. Personally, I would recommend asking for the male barber instead. He always does a great job. This was one of the most frustrating haircut experiences I've had in a long time. I gave clear instructions multiple times and still ended up with a haircut that looks rushed, uneven, and nothing like what I asked for.
