Maria is the shiznit. Thank goodness she came highly recommended. I was in dire need of a rockin' stylist in my 'hood. This is a mom and pop kind of place that's been around over 20 years - same location, south side of the street, just behind CoCo's. The people here are super friendly, and they carry all kinds of high-end brands, including Matrix and Aquage. The interior is a tad dated, with an old TV in the waiting area. When I was there, they had the Diamondbacks game on. Right on. On the tables are plenty of hair magazines to peruse. You won't find trendy furniture here, but, let's face it, are you making an appointment because of a chair or because of a great haircut? Back to Maria... She's incredibly friendly and professional. She's the first stylist EVER to tell me about the texture of my hair, how to complement my face shape, my hair growth pattern, my primary and secondary color hues - as well as explain the many different cutting techniques she used and why (to build volume, to make ends piecey, to shape my face, etc.). I was totally impressed! She gave me styling tips, too, and explained cowlicks and what to do about them. She then went on to talk about styling products and what's best for my hair type - including what conditioners to use and how often. Yeah, talk about impressed... We chatted also about travel - Boston, Chicago, Seattle - and living in Phoenix. She is super nice and easy to talk to, which is a huge plus in my book! Even better, one week after my cut and I'm still impressed. Stylin' it is super easy. I can blow-dry and go, or I can opt to funk it up with a flat iron. Her stylin' tips are helpful, too. And I'm so glad she used alot of texture and fine-point cutting, for it created a look I haven't been able to have since moving here. Seems not alot of stylists really understand their clients' hair types. I definitely recommend Maria to anyone, especially if you're looking for a 'do you know will flatter your face shape, your personality and your hair type. read more

I've been going to see June at Cutter's Cottage for the past 9 years. Even though I've lived in Scottsdale, Chandler and Phoenix, the drive is never an issue! She is the daughter of the owners (who still drop in and answer phones & chat-up the customers every so often). She is absolutely amazing with my hair! She rescued me from a scary yellow-bottle-blonde straw that I called my hair to a beautiful blonde. Then I grew up and we went with a mix of three different colors, gold, brown and red. I LOVED it! She's counseled me through a few relationships and She's helped me adjust to a layered look and, most recently, a weave. The store has expanded from a tiny shop with 4 sinks & 2 chairs for nails to double the size. A few years ago someone stole their barber pole (who DOES that/????) They do have a real guy barber and he's always busy....the place is always busy in general. I highly recommend this place! I've never had a bad experience and they never push-sell anything. They listen, they suggest, they are wonderful. The prices are very reasonable but you're getting the quality that's sold in Scottsdale for 3 times the prices. Love this place!!! read more

I've been to see Ysenia several times, she's a good listener and does a nice job of giving me what I've asked for. I had a really great stacked bob with light brown highlighted hair for about a year so a change was coming. I went to see June without an appointment just to discuss it. June was great she took the time to talk about it and then took the time to fit me into her busy schedule that night! I love my new blond highlighted pixie. Terrible experience...I went here because of all the good reviews. I called, made an appt, told them I wanted a hair cut, they said it would be $27. I arrive, stylist sounds competent and I think I'm in for a treat...well my stylist asks me if I want more texturizing on top and I said can you dry it and then I will be able to tell. She said I'm not drying it. I was like what? And she said you just asked for a cut, not dry and style that would be $55 and I don't have time for that. I asked if I could borrow a dyer and do it myself and she said we don't have any extras... She said again do you want me to take more off, I said I don't know as it's wet and I need it dry to see if it needs more...and she's like I can't do that. So I had to leave with WET hair!!! I go to pay and she's like do you want to add more on, like a tip??? I'm like you know I'm pissed and you have the nerve to ask me for a tip?? I do not recommend this salon. It is not modern, it's ala cart and they don't tell you, and you can find somewhere else to go that's way better in the service department!!! read more

I've had long hair (almost waist line length) for a while now. I absolutely love it and didn't want to part with it, but I still wanted to change it up. I came to Cutters Cottage knowing I wanted an undercut and a trim. Tracie was amazing! She did the nape undercut the way I wanted, and it turned out awesome. She also was very helpful in suggesting what else I could do to change it up a bit, while still keeping my length. She even trimmed up my bangs exactly how I like them (which few seem able to do). Yesenia literally fixed my hair color. I thought it was destroyed by previous colorings by other people and she made it look so natural and healthy. Within two hours of leaving her, the next stops I made people complimented my "gorgeous" color. I was told I look ten years younger, that it looks "so natural," and these comments were made by people I hadn't seen in a long time - the comments were off the cuff. I am sooo happy to have found her; had gotten her name from someone who has been going to her for years and who drives almost an hour each way to see her, and now I know why.
