When you get a system, any charges for equipment are rolled into the monthly monitoring. That usually lasts 36 months. After those 36 months, your equipment charge rolls into a "warranty", without your knowledge or active consent. I learned this after paying for this "warranty" for 5+ years after my equipment was paid for. I needed a new panel. The cost? $350.00, for an upgraded unit, when I asked for the same basic panel. After insisting that I did not need an upgraded panel, I was told the basic panel costs about $70. Instead of replacing it under that warranty that I never asked for, they decided the best resolution, for them, was to charge me $72, in monthly installments of $2, for equipment under warranty, because that's how warranties work? When asked about this, I was told, "How long do you expect us to cover the equipment", to which I replied, "As long as it's under this warranty I never asked for and have been paying unknowingly for 5+ years!" That was not an option. So to summarize: You will pay for the equipment, and after that, the payments will be automatically rolled into a equipment warranty that seems to cover everything except equipment, making it a scam, rather than a warranty. Finally, when I asked why customers were not contacted to see if they wanted this "warranty", I was told that would be too burdensome for Custom Security to contact customers about continuing the warranty. So, enjoy the scam, if you go with these shysters. My advice, pick any other company. Any of them would be better than this clown show. Update: I was just contacted and they offered to bribe me to take this down. No thanks. This is all factual and people should know how Custom Security operates. I didn't name names because this isn't about specific people. This is a Systemic anti-consumer approach. You also now have a pretty good guess as to why there are so many positive reviews and so few negative reviews. Update2: Lets take a look at the likely ways this occurred. 1. A rep, with a 20+ year work history at Custom Security decided to shaft a customer, for no reason whatsoever. They somehow had no idea of how policies there worked and no concept of the meaning of the word warranty. 2. It's just how Custom does business, and a 20+ year veteran of Custom Security was following the policies of Custom Security. Pull out Occam's Razor and decide which of the 2 above scenarios are most likely knowing the Rep was 20+ year veteran of Custom Security. read more

Custom security has monitored our house for years and everything has been fine. But on a recent service call they took the priority plug on the attic, moving the AC plug to a power strip which burned out the strip, the outlet, and some of the wiring. Lucky the house didn't burn. Electrician bill $200 AC repair ongoing but at least $600 Hotel bill to get some AC $250 for 3 nights I'm a little irked. Looking at ADT read more

I attended a presentation by one of Custom Security Systems representatives to a local civic oeganizationand was very impressed by what I heard. We had an older security system which needed a few minor changes so we invited Custom Security to come take a look at the system. Although it was not one of the systems they market it seemed adequate for incorporation of the changes. After the changes/additions were made they found that the system was not functioning properly. Custom Security made several attempts to get the system up and running but it didn't seem very reliable. They suggested replacing all the components with one of the systems they market and after doing that they were able to get the system functioning properly. They did a great job and spent a lot of extra hours in the process. All of their personnel were very courteous and helpful. All this was done at a very satisfactory and reasonable cost To say we are happy with their work would be a grossly understatement. They did an outstanding job. read more
