Now I recommend VL to all of you. We have been shopping for lighting as we update the outside of our 1970's CT colonial and our kitchen. Countless websites with thousands of pictures led to some frustration and we decided to go visit some lighting stores. Some stores may be highly recommended but are really for designers, they are by appointment only, have a very limited supply for a showroom, but offer a really big screen so you can browse their website (ugh!) Others have a bigger supply in the showroom and have nice people who understand lighting. Then there is Valley Lighting! They had a huge selection to look at (and touch) a friendly staff who really knew their inventory, availability and options and were also full of ideas that made us open up the options we were considering. We worked with Zac and he was really great as we waffled on every aspect from design, color, and size. We settled on a design for the outdoor lights in about 20 minutes, after searching for the last several weeks. We purchased 2 Large, 2 Medium, and 2 Small lights to mount on the exterior as well as 3 post lights for the driveway. They also had a huge selection of lightbulbs and guided us through witch wattage and color would work best for our application. This seems elementary that a lighting store would do this, but I haven't seen it elsewhere. We were able to bring home two lights which I mounted (pictured) and the rest were ordered and we expect them in 2 weeks. Now that we accomplished this project it is time to finalize the kitchen lights and for that we will certainly return to VL.

It's more expensive than the box box home improvement places but it's higher quality lighting so you get what you pay for. There are surprisingly few larger lighting places around here and this one is worth a look.

A few companies responded. One company was booked until September while another company declined. A third company was able to show up the same day to measure and provide an estimate. MacVane Electrical was the fourth company to reply but was the quickest to provide an estimate after I texted pictures of the circuit boxes as well as an approximate distance. I was hesitant due to lack of online reviews. Phil (Sr.) quickly responded in the same evening with an estimate as well as a commitment to show up the next day to do the work. Phil (Jr) arrived the next day (Tuesday) as promised along with Ray, and both got the work done in about 2 hours. Both are super nice guys. Turns out Phil and his father started the company just 6 months ago, hence there are few to no reviews online. They are friendly, clean, and thoroughly explained the work that needed to be done. Phil Jr was so thorough that after he finished and left, he called the sauna company to verify the type of plug the sauna required. He then came back an hour or so later to replace the receptacle to the correct type. Having worked for 30+ years in the Huntington area I knew of the LONG time store for shades just West of the intersection of #25 & #110 and actually found something that 'worked' but it was a bit too 'modern' for the style of this antique lamp. He did have some very lovely old fashioned shades, w'fringe & embroidery that were very beautiful but a bit too 'much' for my taste! Thinking I wasn't going to find the 'tailored' but 'old fashioned' look I wanted I purchased the shade from the well stocked place @ the top of #110. Since I had looked for other 'lamp shade' places here on Yelp & phoned 'Tomlin' before leaving home, and the man had been so helpful on the phone & it was on the way home I figured I might as well stop there also. I am so glad I did! Perfect shade for my lamp, 'old' looking but not 'boudoir-ish'! I had been unable to find an antique brass satin finish chain & fittings for a found on the curb on trash day 'Tiffany like' chandelier that I had looked high & low to match @ the 'usual' places w'no luck. I mentioned it & low & behold a few trips to the back & he came up w'all the parts I needed! One of the nicest & accommodating store owners I have EVER met! THANK YOU Sir! In this day of 'mass produced', while seemingly ever increasingly cost & uncaring store owners, Tomlin Lighting is a REAL find & a ONE stop store for ALL your lighting needs! But our rogue thermostat proved to be a challenge. Angelo refused to give up and he also got innovative to avoid having to cut holes into the wall and ceilings even tho that would probably have been much easier for him but much more costly for me. End of the day, he found the perfect solution and when he left, I had a new outlet and my thermostat was up & running! PES is definitely my go to for anything electrical. Horrible, horrible, horrible! Ordered a bedroom set on a Saturday and was told by the manager,…read moreEli, that I would have it was in stock and would be delivered by the end of the week. They would contact me to arrange delivery. End of the week comes, no call so I call them. I was told it didn't make the truck from the warehouse but I would get it next week. This cycle repeated 5 times - 5 weeks. Each time I had to call them. I asked to be called by Eli, no call. Not once was I contacted about the delays throughout the entire time. Finally the furniture is scheduled for delivery. When it gets delivered we discover that one nightstand is damaged and it's taken back to the warehouse. I call the next day about the replacement. I'm told that it will be in next week and they will contact me for delivery. AND the cycle begins again. Week after week I'm told it didn't make the truck and will be in next week. I finally got my nightstand 5 weeks after the damaged one was returned and 11 weeks after I placed my order with US Furniture. Also, be aware that they check the "Special Order" box on every order before they give it to you to sign. In the fine print it states that special orders cannot be cancelled or refunded. I was told the furniture I was purchasing was in stock in their warehouse. Nothing special order about that yet that box was checked and I unknowingly signed it leaving me at their mercy. Never again!!!
