Arrogant and Expensive--I've been a longtime customer and have spent thousands of dollars here over the years with multiple dogs. Then, the business was sold. Unfortunately, my recent experience was unacceptable. I brought in my 6-month-old toy poodle for a simple bath after she had just been to the vet the day prior, where her nails were already trimmed. Despite this, the groomer cut her nails again--past the quick--causing all of them to bleed. I had to take her to the vet for treatment, including antibiotics and bandaging. What was most disappointing was the response: instead of taking responsibility, I was told by a groomer that "mistakes happen" and I am a difficult customer, and was even advised to go to the vet for grooming. I will not return, and neither should you. read more

Beware of the new outrageous pricing! Custom Canine is under new ownership which has decided to increase their prices by ~30%. A grooming appointment used to be $95-110 now is $140. I had no idea they were going to increase the price until I walked in the door to pick up my dog and was shocked when they told me it would be $140! He was groomed nicely but not for the increase in cost. Other groomers are just as good at a more affordable price. I wish Lisa still owned Custom Canine and managed it. She was great and reasonable with her charges. read more

Hard to review but here goes: technically excellent grooming on a toy poodle. But very very expensive ($95 plus tip). Dogs are crated which doesn't work well for my dog. So I'd give them 5 stars for the actual grooming w negative points on pricing and crating. read more

LIsa has been grooming my dog for several years now. She knows how to work with anxious pups. Always great cut, and the dog smells great. Not sure where the ownership reviews came from, but even when she was undergoing medical stuff, the dogs were always well cared for and appointments have been honored. read more

Loved this place for our big guy. They fixed a horrible cut performed by someone at pet smart. They cleaned him up and have him so much lovins. He has allergies and gets ear infections and they really cleaned his ears just as they do at the vet. The staff is busy yet still very friendly and attentive. Recommend based on our first visit. We will be taking our dog there biweekly and we can only hope all visits are great like the first. Our big guy looks amazing. read more

It appears Custom Canines is under new management and Lisa and her crew are gone. For those who had longstanding relationships with their groomers (I did), this is hard. When I inquired about Lisa's absence after my appointment in May, I was told she had undergone a medical procedure and I was under the impression she would return. Perhaps not. She was not present today for my June appointment. There is a sign on the door announcing a price increase. I was charged $10 more for my dog's grooming than I previously had paid. All else has been okay, when I pick up my dog he is bathed, groomed and seems well. I miss my old setup but am willing to give the new owners and groomers a fair shake. I will miss the old crew, however. When you love your pets, you look for groomers who will care for them as well and carefully as you do. So far I don't have that "warm and fuzzy" feeling, that the new groomers have that level of affection, but as noted I will give the new management a try. read more

Scheduled a 730 am appointment and built my whole morning around it, including my work schedule. I got there 5 minutes early and waited for several minutes. No one showed. I left and am not returning, ever. Would recommend they not schedule the first appointment until 745 or 8, just in case something happens . Going back to my old groomer - Happy Tails in Falls Church. Found CC through a friend whose gone there for years. They do an excellent job with my nervous dog, keep early hours, and generally run a tight ship. The staff are pros and keep things simple. Be clear with your requests. They keep notes on your usual services and make things easy. (((Check and cash only.))) They can get pretty booked up around holidays but generally try to accommodate for short notice bookings. Be respectful of their time and they will always be respectful of yours! read more

We LOVE Custom Canines. They are a small operation and every dog gets personal care. If you ask for a certain clip or cut, that's what you get. They really know what they are doing. Custom Canines managed to turn my beautiful dog into an ugly dog. I have a Coton du Tulear, and always have her cut into a "puppy cut", which is adorable and makes her almost look like a stuffed toy. For some reason even though she has been there many times and always gets a puppy cut, this time somebody decided to SHAVE HER HAIR OFF everywhere except her head and part of her tail. I have no idea how anyone could make the decision to do that. Anyone who knows anything about dogs knows that a Coton is known for their beautiful white hair and now her entire body is so bald you can see her pink skin perfectly. They even shaved her adorable fluffy paws so now they are bony and hideous. I am so upset. Somebody at Custom Canines knew they messed up big-time, because they even called my husband to warn him of their mistake before he picked her up. This is a disaster. They did not charge us but I don't really care about the $80. I want my cute dog back. Also, it's almost winter and now I'm going to have to buy her a sweater so she doesn't freeze with no hair. I love Lisa! My puppy got a horrible and botched puppy cut for his first grooming experience and I took him to Lisa to get him fixed. I have his appointments booked out till December just to make sure that I can get in with her. They all do such an amazing job grooming the pups that come here. They give them all custom cuts to go with their face and body shape. Not all dogs are meant to look exactly the same and they do such an amazing job making each dog look unique and beautiful. All the staff is super nice and they are very very quick. Bilbo is only there for 1-2 hours tops. And he loves them! I can tell because he doesn't mind the car ride over there. If you have a pup and want them to be as cute as ever, definitely take them here. It can't get better than this groomer. read more

I just moved to the area and took my dog here for a nail clipping. My dog's groomer was nice and did a nice job with the nails but a co-groomer accused me of abusing my sweet dog because she was shaking. I tried to ignore her stupid and rude comment. My dog hates the groomers and vet and always shakes. I won't be going back. read more

I have to compliment the owner and groomers at Custom Canines (CC) on the tremendous job they did with our dog. We rescued our very sweet, but strong-minded little guy just three months ago from a rough situation and he still growls defensively. CC's owner and groomers were gentle and kind with him. I asked that his fur be cut very short, CC's groomers didn't just shave him, they styled his very short cut Beautifully and he looks better than I've ever seen him!!! I have taken my standard poodle to Custom Canine's for over a year. They are professional, caring, and can groom any breed dog. Most importantly, my dog hates the groomers and vets, always has from puppy days till now. Thus, I have a time getting her in but they greet her warmly and calm her down each time.
