I love their Lamb Biriyani it's probably my favorite dish in the restaurant, it's cooked so well and the meat just falls apart so easily. I also like their lamb curry and pakora as well. The food: ordered chicken tikka masala (CTM). It tasted too tomato-pastey. I tasted more tomato paste than spices. I get CTM at every Indian-Pakistani restaurant I go to. If I compare all of them to this..I would rate this one 1.5/5 To go with the CTM, I got a regular naan and a garlic naan. The garlic naan was NOT worth it mainly because the 'price to garlic' ratio was below acceptable.. in other words, it didn't taste like garlic and the amount they charged was not justifiable. I also ordered samosa. One order came with 2 and some garbanzo beans. It's wasn't bad. I'd buy it again. I'll give that 3.5/5. It didn't "wow" me, but it did the trick. The restaurant: it was clean, didn't have any odors that would hinder my dine in experience. Service: I ordered dine in and I had to get up twice to grab my food. I was tired, I really wanted service to my table like a normal restaurant. They served "fast-food" style. The restroom: it was pretty clean (4/5). Just washed my hands. No smell, no stank, needed some sweeping... good enough though. Overall: would I go back there again? I'll give it another try. I would try different food. Went into curry leaf because the smells just draw you in when you walk by. It is also obviously popular, so we figured it must be good. I am usually not an Indian cuisine fan because I can't handle spicy dishes, but this place has become one of my favorites! It has a very homey , local atmosphere. Came in with no wait on a Wednesday night for dinner, the place is pretty serve yourself in the sense that you can grab your own waters, napkins, and utensils with a small chai station as well for 2.99 a cup. What was noteworthy about this meal -- besides how tasty all the food was -- was how affordable it was for San Francisco. After tip, the entire bill was barely above $50. Curry Leaf keeps costs down by essentially having customers set and bus their own tables, which I am more than okay with for a great meal at a reasonable price. If there's one thing I would have changed about the restaurant that night, it would have been how passive the management was about masks; a maskless delivery person was waiting around for an order and just hanging out for a while -- during the Omicron surge. I ordered for takeaway, pickup was easy and it was ready pretty quickly. The samosas were great, flaky and crispy outside, the sauces added nice flavor. The paratha bread was soft and delicious. My one complaint was the Chana masala. I've had this many times in different places, and this one is so spicy I couldn't eat it. I'm not sensitive to spicy food, I love Hunan and Sichuan cuisine, and the menu doesn't state that it's spicy. I tried eating it with the bread, but I couldn't even enjoy it, I barely ate any of it. This spot has about 3-4 tables dedicated to outdoor dining. Service was quick and staff was professional. I ordered the Chicken Breast from the BBQ, Chicken Tikka Masala, two Naans, and a kebab wrap for my table. Food was fresh and was cooked well. I'm a pretty big food critic when it comes to desi food, but this place wasn't bad. You should give it a shot and see for yourself. I stumbled upon this restaurant on a Friday night and I couldn't be happier! I came in with my friends a little after 6 PM and the restaurant was already super crowded. Indian curry used to be my go-to meal back when I was in college, and I really haven't had it much since I graduated so I was really excited to try their food! Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed how spotless and clean the floor and tables were. The staff was super helpful and friendly, and we were seated almost immediately. After looking through their menu, we decided to order their chicken tikka masala and chicken saag -- and they were both phenomenal. The chicken tikka sauce was the perfect creamy consistency, and the chicken saag had a kick of spice to it, perfect for those who enjoy a little something spicy! Also, just a little note about Curry Leaf for those who've never been -- at the restaurant, you serve yourself water and retrieve utensils and plates at their kitchenware station. So pleased to find a delicious and clean Indian restaurant in SF. The staff are friendly and efficient. The cost of dining is also quite reasonable especially for SF. Have enjoyed all the vegetarian dishes we've tried. Each item had a balance of spices that enhanced rather than overwhelmed the main substance of each dish: 1. Bengan Bharta - one of our favorites. We've enjoyed this so much that we ordered extra to take home and freeze so we could have it for lunch at the office over the following week. 2. Mater Mushrooms - flavorful and the mushrooms made a rather nice substitute for having a meat dish. This is saying a lot for me since I'm a carnivore and it's rare I have a meal without some kind of meat in it but having this dish with the rice satisfied me 3. Samosas - delicious - again, the spice balances were spot on for us Now the reason it's not a 5 star place for me - the meat dishes were not nearly as nice as the veggie ones. Ordered 3 kabobs styles - I found all 3 very dry. That was sad for me since I love kabobs. The Chicken in the tikka masala was as dry though the sauce was nice. Curry Leaf is a surprising diamond hiding in the midst of all the other restaurants in the area. We decided to give this place a try as we were in the area and craving Indian food for dinner. Having heard about it from a friend, we headed over, a bit surprised we hadn't noticed it before during our frequent evenings out in North Beach. The restaurant was quiet when we went for dinner (early evening on a Saturday) but the guys behind the counter looked quite busy with prepping food. We ordered a paneer tikka masala, chicken vindaloo, mango lassi, and a cheese naan. Our table filled up with amazing smelling food very fast and we dove in. The first thing I have to say is that everything was absolutely delicious! I even tried a bit of the vindaloo and despite it being hot, I was hooked. We seriously overate since we didn't want to leave a single bit behind. Second, cheese naan. To be honest, I was expecting naan bread with paneer or some other Indian/Middle Easter type cheese cut up inside... but no... we were absolutely shocked to discover that it's regular shredded cheddar cheese! To say that we were not expecting such a combination at an Indian restaurant would be downplaying our bafflement. But... it was amazing! After we got over our initial amusement, we couldn't leave it alone and ate every bit of it. Seriously, shredded cheddar! Out of the Indian food I've had in the city, Curry Leaf is by far some of the best, most intensely flavoured and priced perfectly for the location. Highly recommended! read more

Note - This review is technically from 2019/2020 that I procrastinated on publishing. My go to favorites and would recommend are the Chicken Vindaloo, Karahi Chicken, Bengan Bharta, and Garlic Naan. I've tried a bite of their Chicken Tikka Masala, which was still good, but if you're someone who always orders Chicken Tikka Masala and want to try something new, I'd highly recommend trying these items below instead. Karahi Chicken - I didn't write what I thought about their Karahi Chicken (I ordered medium spicy) but I ordered this multiple times. So past me must have thought it was really good. Chicken Vindaloo - I love spicy food and their Chicken Vindaloo (I ordered medium spicy) paired with their Garlic Naan. PERFECTION. I'm salivating. Since then, I've tried other Indian restaurants' chicken vindaloos and nothing comes close to how Curry Leaf makes it. Def recommend if you love spicy food. Bengan Bharta - When I didn't want to eat chicken, I ordered their bengan bharta (mashed roasted eggplant) and they make it the best in my book (so far).
