beef nihari
Tram D.

this place surprised me! when you arrive you are seated and handed menus. after deciding you go up to the counter to order your food. plates and utensils are self serve as well as drinks upon ordering. i got the mango lassi and it was creamy and not too sweet! we started with the samosas which had a perfect crisp to them. the filling was well seasoned and spice. some parts weren't cooked fully though and so it was a bit doughy. for our main we ordered, the beef nihari which was something we've never tried before. when I first tried it I didn't really know what to make the flavor but it quickly grew on me. it was spicy and had a unique flavor I can't really describe. it felt somewhat similar to Vietnamese bo kho. the beef itself was tender and easy to eat. the garlic naan was addicting! so crispy but still a little soft in the middle. garlic was there but not overpowering. my boyfriend and I shared a portion but I was tempted to get more. it was a great meal that warmed us up after getting caught in the rain :)

I finally tried this delicious food. The service was very nice, and in a gorgeous location in the North Beach district of SF. I go the chicken keema w/ potatoes to go. I'd love to try more items on their menu the next time I'm in the area. The food is very spicy btw, wish I love.

Curry Leaf is an Indian and Pakistani restaurant in Russian Hill with flavorful vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. The restaurant had indoor seating, good for small groups and you order/pay at the kiosk before your food comes out. The ambiance can be described as casual and the prices are very reasonable. The food is a little sweeter and less spicier than the average Indian restaurant, but the portion sizes are good. The chicken biryani was a good pick and paired well with the chicken karahi. The mushroom keema was also something that was new to me. It was flavorful and was a good pick with the naan.

I've been to SF 3 times in my life, and 2 of those - I've made it a point to eat here because it's DELICIOUS. Their cheese naan is 10/10, try it, and I always get the Chicken Karahi, and their rice is just perfect. It's a bit of a hole in the wall and it really is all about the food. I'd eat here regularly if I lived in the city.

We ordered to go for this India restaurant. Little overpriced only ordered 3 entrees and 2 garlic naan and chicken tikka masala costed almost $68. Garlic naan was so soggy. Doesn't recommended for to go. They gave you a lot of rice but too little chickens. Masala was over power too spicy. Make sure you tell them mild.

Chicken Roll Spicy

Ordered the Chicken Roll wraps and Mango lassi. Chicken rolls were very good. We ordered it Spicy and it had a nice kick. The sauce is also smoky in flavor which I liked. Paired with the tamarind and green chutney, it was very good. Would definitely recommend.

Vegetable Samosa - very good and spicy

What would I do without Yelp!!!?? ;P After spending a few days in SF's Fisherman's Wharf area and enjoying meal after meal of seafood, fish n chip and clam chowder, we were craving something different and Yelp! came to rescue! We found Curry Leaf on Columbus Street and it is somewhat a hole in the wall. The restaurant is smaller, but very clean and comfortable, and seats about 20 comfortably. We walked in at about 6:45p and were asked to grab the menus and seat ourselves anywhere, and to walk back up to the cashier to place our order whenever we're ready. By the time we left at 7.30p, the restaurant was 90% full. We opted for a Vegetarian Samosa appetizer (excellent, and nice & spicy!), lamb wrap (really good( with balanced flavor), and a boneless chicken biriyani (very good and offered at a very generous portion!). Everything tasted very good and prices are very reasonable and on the cheaper side. Overall a very pleasant meal and enjoyable dining experience. Thumbs Up!

Open late, reasonably priced, flavorful cuisine. Curry leaf is a gem. While most people order this place on a delivery app- I think hot and fresh Indian food tastes much better than Indian food cooked 45 minutes ago. That being said ambiance here is no frills but it is clean and the service is attentive. You order at the counter and you have to pick up your food when it's ready. I really enjoy the Bengan Bharta, fish tandoori and samosas here. The bharta is one of the best I've ever had. The fish tandoori is a mix of smoky and flavorful. Samosas are soft but pack a punch. The ctm is good but certainly not the best and the sabzi is good but simple. Overall I recommend eating here and it is worth a stop even at 10p on a Saturday. Nothing I've ever eaten here has been below good.

Saag Dal

Curry Leaf wasn't even our original dinner spot but when we walked by there was such a flavorful delicious aroma coming from the restaurant that we just had to at least stop by for a snack. I'm suuuuper duper glad that we did stop by and try out some dishes because everything was sooo incredibly flavorful and packed with spices. We got the chicken biryani (so many different spices and packed a lil spicy punch too!). The rice and chicken were both not too dry but the rice was really the star with how delectable it was. We also got the saag dal and it was also very flavorful. The spices are definitely less punchy than in the biryani but it made for a great pairing to the rice. Lentils and spinach were plentiful. There were so many other yummy looking things on the menu that I wished we chose more dishes to try but even then we did not finish the two that we had ordered so portion sizes are solid. Service was quick and easy as you order your food up front and then you pick up at the same counter. The restaurant itself is small/mid sized but still with enough seating. I hope to be able to come back and try more things!

Here is the basic concensus: - Lamb Tikka Masala 2/5 Everyone agreed it tasted more like spaghetti sauce than masala. It was way too tomatoey and bitter and not creamy enough at all. - Chicken Korma 5/5 Definitely recommend the Chicken Korma. We all enjoyed it and it had great flavor. - Basmati Rice 3/5 The rice order was really small and there was not enough to go around so order multiple if you are ordering. It was also a little clumpy. - Chicken Momo 3/5 - Fine if you like dumplings but nothing like the momos we are used to. The sauce had a spicy kick to it. If you are craving momos I recommend the Urban Curry Manchurian momos instead. - Garlic Naan 3/5 Ok but pricey for one and you might as well get it plain so you can better experience the flavors of the other items or our recommendation is to just order extra rice instead. - Chana Masala 2/5 Way too thin and liquidy with very little cream. It made the chickpeas much less enjoyable. - Daal Saag 4/5 The Daal Saag and the Chicken Korma were definitely the favorites of the meal. Everyone agreed they should be highly recommended. - Samosas 2/5 I usually love samosas but I wouldn't get this one again. It was quite dry and plain the chutney didn't help much. I can't comment too much on the price, we spent close to a hundred after tip but that includes ordering and delivery, convenience charges and everything that was to be expected. I'm rounding up to four stars but it was probably closer to three for me. Still, I would definitely consider dining in here at some point as the restaurant photos and presentation seem far superior to the take out experience.

We started with a giant dosa and the chick pea passion fruit cups (can't remember the name). The potato inside the dosa was a nice surprise and so good, the chick pea cups were a flavor explosion... sweet, spicy, savory. We then moved to the octopus which was so tender, perfectly seasoned and cooked. The lamb dish was very solid, reminded me of the curry that goat curry is traditionally cooked in. Now to the highlight... the COD was to die for. The sauce it comes with, the tenderness, cooked to perfection. Just order it, you won't regret it. We were talking to someone who had been multiple times and he was saying that their seafood is what they are known for, made sense because the octopus and cod were my favorites. They were really busy but our server was really nice and never made us feel rushed. Also the ambiance is really nice and fancy, perfect for a date night with my girlfriend. Finding out our anniversary brunch was cancelled at the last minute, then being told they were fully booked an hour before our reservation with no alternative offered left me feeling stuck and upset. He offered to get us into the event or have us come for dinner, and I appreciated him reaching out and giving us options. The event menu wasn't what we were hoping for, and since we've had dinner here a few times, we really wanted to try the regular Sunday brunch. We ended up moving our reservation to October 18 and celebrating our anniversary differently. I understand things come up, but the late notice and not having the puja menu available made changing our plans harder than it needed to be. Clearer communication upfront would have helped a lot. We've enjoyed their dinner tasting menu, the presentation and the creative twists on Indian food a couple times before. Looking forward to the brunch.
