Have been meaning to try Curry Leaf for a while and finally stopped in for the lunch buffet. I am definitely not a conisseur of Indian food so I wasn't totally sure what all the stuff on the buffet was, though it was labeled. Adventurous eaters or people familiar with Indian cuisine might do best with this. Everything I had was tasty, at great temperature, and the buffet was fully stocked. Tried 2 sauces from the chutney section and both were tasty. I really liked the paneer and the sweet podol dessert. Service was quick and friendly. Amazing!!! My coworkers and I came here for a Friday lunch and we're so pleased with the food. Everything was so tasty and fresh! We of course went for their lunch buffet which they do on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for $12.99 right now. The butter chicken and naan were on point. I tried a lot of Indian dishes that I had never even heard of it before and I don't have a complaint about any of it. Super filling and it's a great bang for your buck. The "servers" were super quick to refill our waters and you walk up to the counter to pay your bill when finished. Kids were hungry and sleepy so we wanted to get some Indian food for the kids, before we start our drive back to Detroit. We found that this place had Dosa's on their menu. When we went in it was quite busy. We were a party of 5 (2 kids) and almost all of us ordered some type of Dosa and a Bissibelibhath (Curry Rice) Most everything was hot/spicy, even for us being used to spicy food more than an average Indian family. I think there is some opportunities for improvement on the service, taste and the ambience. I went here with a group from work. Maybe I didn't order the right thing? I got the tandoori chicken as I was intrigued by the idea of a clay oven. I ordered mild and it came out a little spicy (luckily I don't mind spice). The dish came out and the chicken was a handful of bone-in pieces with a small amount of sliced onions and cabbage strips along with a bowl of fluffy white rice. I've been meaning to try this place forever, and finally did with a big group of friends a few weeks ago. Our server was very friendly and food came out pretty quickly. A few of us split a couple dishes, including the lamb pasantha, goat korma, and ennai kathirikai (eggplant dish from Tamil Nadu). We went for a mild-moderate heat since my cousin doesn't eat spicy food, but I definitely want to try hot next time! I was worried the dishes might be too small, but we ended up having plenty of leftovers. The naan wasn't the best I've ever had, but the jalapeño chicken fry was a unique and tasty appetizer, and the dynamite cauliflower was a crowd favorite due to the sauce and seasoning--highly recommend getting this. Curry Leaf is way better than it looks and it's actually my favorite Indian restaurant in Grand Rapids. Whenever I eat at an Indian restaurant, I want to eat everything! I don't want just butter chicken, curry, or tikka malasa, I want it all! This is why I always go to Curry Leaf for their lunch buffets. You can sample many dishes and they offer a wide variety of options. This includes vegetarian, dishes with meat, non-spicy and spicy options. Best of all, they serve a pretty good naan which can be hard to come by at buffets. The staff will also drop off a plate of papadum that you can pair with their many sauces. What's nice about Curry Leaf is they don't repeat all the options for the buffet so you'll definitely see something different when you make the occasional visit. There are also usually a few options for dessert. I personally enjoy the mango pudding. If you do come here for dinner, it definitely won't disappoint you. I feel like whichever dish you choose, it will last you about two meals. The staff is always so nice and they accept reservations for both lunch and dinner. read more

My favorites are the chicken briyani, tandoori chicken, and egg curry. Those are just my favorites though, I love everything they offer!! If you visit during the week and order off the menu, there are different spice levels and countless options of dishes. Many vegetarian options as well! This is one of the better Indian restaurants in GR, with reasonably nice ambiance and service. The dosa(sour dough crepe) that we ordered was perfectly prepared and so were the chutneys(dips) that came with it. And then there's this little known "indo-chinese" aka "Desi Chinese" cuisine which is essentially chinese food made with indian spices and style. It is widely available in India as street food but only few places in US make it right. This is one of those places thankfully! While I have not been to any other Indian restaurants in Grand Rapids, I can say that this one is a must! I went a couple weeks back and the place was empty. My first thought was..."uh oh." It was, however, outstanding. The multi-talented server/cashier/busser/etc. was friendly and answered any questions we had. I had the garlic naan bread and the Dedicated Vindaloo. Many dishes (perhaps all) allow you to pick your spice level (4 of them). I went for the second hottest and it was very spicy but complex. I was still able to taste other things outside of just the hot pepper flavor. At the end of the meal, the chef came out to let us know that he was newer and wanted to make sure we enjoyed our meals. Buffet Cons: pricey and not a huge selection (considering the price). This is the first Indian buffet I've been to where most things were a bit too spicy for me -I do admit, I'm a spice wimp. But I was really surprised at the lack of variety considering the price ($18/per person). I can usually find some things to eat when there's more variety. We went around 2 on a Sunday (closes at 3). They were refilling dishes (e.g. naan and rice were empty) but some of the dishes had sauce and not much meat (e.g. butter chicken). The rices were a little on the dry side and we didn't see much staff (my water didn't get refilled, plates piled up a little, and we had to wait up front a bit to get the attention of someone to pay (there were only 1-2 other tables at any given time). I did like the selection of dessert -very interesting and fun to try new things. For the price and selection we likely will not be back, but if you love Indian food, it's worth a try! curry leaf hits the spot!! the menu is a little weird or has changed during the past months i've been here. the first time i ordered palak paneer, the waitress said it came with another protein on top of the paneer so i got chickpeas with it (v good btw). the next time i visited, they said it came with the paneer OR the chickpeas. i don't know if the first waitress was new or they changed their menu, but i liked it more when it came with two proteins. service is a bit slow at times, but they are doing their best :D there's a lot of seating and the ambiance is quiet and casual. read more

We have been going to this restaurant for quite some time. We typically get the masala dosa which is awesome. You can't go wrong with any dosa. Recently, we had family visiting so we thought to try something new. I ordered vegetable jalfrezi, tomato dalcha, murgh shahi korma, plain naan, onion kulcha, and carrot halwa. The vegetable jalfrezi and murgh shahi korma were amazing and I would definitely order again with naan. The onion kulcha was good too. I wasn't a big fan of the tomato dalcha but everyone else loved it. The carrot halwa was a bit disappointing, I would not recommend that. They have great food and after this experience I will keep trying different things on the menu! I look forward to them opening and offering buffet! read more

The owners, head chef, manager(s), restaurant decor, pricing, buffet pricing and customer service are totally unrelated to the previous establishment with the same name. They're cleverly trying to lure unsuspecting customers of the previous curry leaf by not changing the name, but the cheap truck comes to light once the customer orders the food they delightfully reminisce from the original curry leaf. My earlier reviews on the "new " curry leaf are already published so pls read through before you get your expectations smashed by this restaurant. Actually, even after traveling to India, dining in top Indian restaurants in NYC, DC, and Seattle, Curry Leaf delivers the BEST Indian food I've had. My family ordered takeover her on a Christmas Eve and ordered around 10 different dishes, tons of naan, rice, and a mango lassi. Every single thing was out of this world especially the chicken tikka masala, goat curry, and biryani. If you don't eat meat, there's plenty to choose from. And the entire bill came to $140, which is not bad considering quality food was served to 10 people (and a baby...well, the baby didn't have any). If you're in Grand Rapids, hands down the best Indian food is Curry Leaf. Just give them your money now. read more

The servers were ok but very very very slow. The food was just average and we were surprised with the high reviews. In terms of overall flavors, I'm really starting to think I just don't have a palette that fully appreciates Indian cuisine (I wish it did!!!). The naan was flavorful and warm, the rice was cooked perfectly, and the butter chicken was lovely. Curry Leaf is by a long shot my favorite Indian restaurant in the GR area. It's a newer addition to the South Asian food scene in this city (its only been around for about two years) and it's inside a old remodeled diner. I thought it was going to look jank and weird inside, but they actually pulled it off on the inside. It looks and feels like a proper Indian restaurant, just with some 1950s-style diner windows. I'm all for it. The food is excellent, and has me coming back for more and more, which is a challenge, being on the literal opposite end of the city for me. I usually stop in before or after my regular trips to Horrock's (my fav grocery store/garden center in town). It's kind of my favorite shopping combo these days. I'm not an expert on Indian food, as its extremely broad and regional, but Curry Leaf seems to specialize more in South Indian cuisine, dosas, papadum, basmati rice with a lot of different curries and paneers and so many other options i cant even begin to explain. They have my favorite Indian appetizer "Gobi 65" which is a popular deep fried sweet and sour chili cauliflower street food. Its kind of a delicious India's take on Chinese/Far East flavor. Its so delicious and Im finally glad i found a place in GR that makes it! The last time I went, I had an amazing bhaingan (eggplant) peanut sauce curry dish that was to die for. I went tonight with a group to try the Thursday night buffet and it was amazing! The dishes were all amazing, most items I have never seen on any other menu and they were all wonderful! Even better than the food was the service, we were greeted promptly and we had someone explain all of the different dishes and even how to combine food and chutneys. They are very proud of the food and they should be!! They brought out an amazing green lentil crepe for us to try, you have to try it, such a great experience.
