Aloo Gobi Masala Mint Chutney Dal Roti Jeera Rice

Went to India Town based on Yelp reviews. Loved seeing the word VEGAN on many menu items!! In my opinion, This food was lovingly prepared and packaged. It may even have been the owner handing it out to us from the back door due to pandemic. The flavors were amazing! Asked for no oil and appreciated that nothing was greasy or oily! Will definitely be going back even though we live an hour away. Had enough for leftovers too. Good value.

This was by far the worst Indian food I've had in the entire state of Michigan. It was so bad I'm not sure where to begin unfortunately. We had Aloo Saag and Vegetable Korma, delivered given COVID19. We only received one order of rice even though we had two entree's, and the garlic naan was basically soggy bread. I've never experienced oily/greasy Korma, this was primarily oil with vegetables, the coconut curry was non existent. The Aloo Saag was basically water, spinach, oil and spice. The only good thing was that the potatoes were cooked. Do not waste your money here. I'm upset that we just wasted $50+ on food that we are just tossing because top ramen is a better option.

I've been here three times now in a the past two weeks, and each visit has been absolutely perfect! The owner has been there each time, verrrry friendly, kind and helpful. Making conversation came easily for the owner, and when I returned he asked me about some of the things we talked about. The food came out great every time, hot, fresh, and loaded with great flavor. We especially enjoyed the Saag Paneer ($13) and my Mom ordered the tomato soup ($4) every time, it was creamy with just a hint of spice. There's no buffet available at this time of year because business is slow. If that's what you want, make sure you call ahead and see if they are offering buffet. Take out: some of the food is hard to eat in the take out containers. Probably due to the generous amount of rice packed into the to go box. If you are going home and can use a plate, you're all set! But if you try to go eat at a park (like me), you'll likely get rice and masala everywhere. I highly recommend this place for some tasty Indian food and great service. :)

Just got done eating the buffet and it was great. Don't ask me the names of the dishes, but they were all amazing! The flavors are great, just the right amount of spice. Don't get me wrong, it's still spicy, but not the burn your face off, Thai kind of spicy. Owner was very attentive to our needs and friendly and the complementary nan bread reminded me of the time I spent a month in India. This meal was all around nostalgia to me. I will be coming here again!

Definitely the best Indian I have eaten in quite some time. I have beads of sweat dripping off my forehead after tasting this incredible chicken tiki masala. The tomato and onion give it just the right twist , and the flavor bursts all around . The Mango Lassie was just the right thing to quench the fire of the chicken tiki. Portion was more than enough. I will definitely come visit again . Thanks Tony for a great dinner in Grand Rapids best kept secret out-of-the-way place!

The food is very bland, watered down. I ordered chicken curry. The place was empty. Not a pleasant environment.

Madras Indian Grill was suggested and everyone seemed excited as most of us hadn't been there before and we were craving Indian food. The restaurant is pretty large and we were one of a few parties dining in. The menu is huge, with lots of great options for vegetarians, but be careful if you have a nut allergy as many items have cashews and/or almonds. Our friend was directed to the chicken vindaloo which doesn't have cashews. I like that they also feature south Indian items as well as Indo-Chinese dishes. They also have non-alcoholic drinks and desserts. We started with two orders of the veggie samosas, which were excellent. I find that sometimes samosas can be dry, but not these! The mint and tamarind sauces were flavorful and tasty. I'd get these every time. For my entree, I got the palak paneer and also the chicken hakka noodles, as I've never had them before. We also got two orders of garlic naan and an order of paratha. Our food came out pretty quickly and everything was so good. I loved the flavors of the palak paneer (although it was not spicy at all -- I ordered it "American medium spicy") and the textures of the hakka noodles. I couldn't believe the portion sizes in relation to price -- the entrees were all around $12-$14 and were generous portions as we all had leftovers. Our server was kind of roasting us for our orders (telling us the butter chicken was bad and we should order something else, commenting on our spice level preferences, etc.). They have a lunch buffet Friday-Sunday that I really want to check out (they said the menu rotates for that and you can find the items on their social media), but otherwise I think this will be a good takeout spot for me. It took quite a bit of time for us to get our checks and to-go containers. But I'm so glad I got to try this food and I'll be eating my way through the menu!

Ive probably been 5 times now and each time their has been a funky, chemical like smell in the restaurant. The employees are also not the friendliest. I usually get takeout and when I do ive had to wait up to 30 minutes past the time that I chose for pick up, if the food isnt going to be ready until 5:30 dont tell me I can pick it up at 5. But... with all that being said the food has been really good. I usually get butter chicken from them. The chicken is well seasoned, the gravy is thick and seasoned heavily. Its not the best Butter Chicken I've ever had but for Michigan its pretty darn good. They give you a healthy amount of rice, but its not the best rice I've tried. Their naan is better then most ive tried around the GR area, soft and pillowy. The food is about a 4 but the service and ambiance are closer to 2.

I got the you pick 4 for $14ish. I chose naan, rice, chicken tikka masala and lamb curry. Both had a nice spice level, my hubby thought the chicken tikka masala had mango powder mixed in. I agreed it had a fruity spicy essence that we both enjoyed. My favorite was the lamb curry, because I loved the latent heat that built with each spoonful. It had me sweating in a good way! I washed it all down with a $6 mango lassi. The Dutch girl in me would've rather paid $5, but I'm sure renting space here isn't cheap... so it goes. They also had some interesting fusion tacos and Kati rolls that were cheaper and sounded interesting. Overall, very happy with my order and would eat here again. I hope this place thrives and becomes a unique and filling staple at The Downtown Market.
