Chicken vindaloo, basmati rice, veggie pakora with sauces and garlic naan.
Eric D.

So, so good. I love a good vindaloo, and I was not disappointed with my first visit to this new Gaslight Village establishment. I was a bit hesitant to place a takeaway lunch order around the same time that the nearby high school was on lunch break at their open campus, but I was promptly greeted and walked away with my well packaged food expeditiously. By the time I got home, everything was still hot and fresh. I loved every bite, and there was nothing left when I finished. Even the packaging was compostable and found a good home in the end. I will definitely be eating here more in the future, maybe next time to dine inside their tidy dining room.

Great new family business that opened in Gaslight village. The cuisine is delicious, service is great! Love that they have GF/Vegan options :) Highly recommend their vegetable pakora, so delicious and crispy! Will definitely be coming here for authentic, delicious Indian food!

Great food, quick service, great spice, huge portions. They are very light on the rice servings but tons of curry. The 3 naan we ordered were perfectly cooked. Very small inside, I think there were only 4 or 5 tables so not ideal for a large group. Ordered at the counter and ate in. The staff was super helpful with ordering, Indian food is my favorite food but my biggest complaint is always spice inconsistencies and I have a hard time deciding what level of spice to order. The staff was spot on with helping on decide on spice and the spice was perfect. I love spicy and so I ordered an 8 and it was exactly what I wanted. My husband doesn't love spice as much and is still learning to tolerate spice and he ordered a 6 which was much higher than what he usually gets but he said it was the perfect amount of spice. So far this has been my favorite Indian spot in GR.

My friends and I were looking for a place to have dinner on a Monday evening -- not always the…read moreeasiest in Grand Rapids as many places are closed. Madras Indian Grill was suggested and everyone seemed excited as most of us hadn't been there before and we were craving Indian food. The restaurant is pretty large and we were one of a few parties dining in. The menu is huge, with lots of great options for vegetarians, but be careful if you have a nut allergy as many items have cashews and/or almonds. Our friend was directed to the chicken vindaloo which doesn't have cashews. I like that they also feature south Indian items as well as Indo-Chinese dishes. They also have non-alcoholic drinks and desserts. We started with two orders of the veggie samosas, which were excellent. I find that sometimes samosas can be dry, but not these! The mint and tamarind sauces were flavorful and tasty. I'd get these every time. For my entree, I got the palak paneer and also the chicken hakka noodles, as I've never had them before. We also got two orders of garlic naan and an order of paratha. Our food came out pretty quickly and everything was so good. I loved the flavors of the palak paneer (although it was not spicy at all -- I ordered it "American medium spicy") and the textures of the hakka noodles. I couldn't believe the portion sizes in relation to price -- the entrees were all around $12-$14 and were generous portions as we all had leftovers. Our server was kind of roasting us for our orders (telling us the butter chicken was bad and we should order something else, commenting on our spice level preferences, etc.). They have a lunch buffet Friday-Sunday that I really want to check out (they said the menu rotates for that and you can find the items on their social media), but otherwise I think this will be a good takeout spot for me. It took quite a bit of time for us to get our checks and to-go containers. But I'm so glad I got to try this food and I'll be eating my way through the menu!

3.4 out of 5. Above…read moreaverage Indian food for the Midwest. The ambiance is dark and somewhat unwelcoming. Ive probably been 5 times now and each time their has been a funky, chemical like smell in the restaurant. The employees are also not the friendliest. I usually get takeout and when I do ive had to wait up to 30 minutes past the time that I chose for pick up, if the food isnt going to be ready until 5:30 dont tell me I can pick it up at 5. But... with all that being said the food has been really good. I usually get butter chicken from them. The chicken is well seasoned, the gravy is thick and seasoned heavily. Its not the best Butter Chicken I've ever had but for Michigan its pretty darn good. They give you a healthy amount of rice, but its not the best rice I've tried. Their naan is better then most ive tried around the GR area, soft and pillowy. The food is about a 4 but the service and ambiance are closer to 2.
