We recently moved closer and I decided to try it for a work at home lunch day. I did no research before going. It turns out that Himalaya does not presently have a dine in option, which is fine because I live nearby. I walked in to look at the menu and order. I'm not sure if the person who helped me was having an off day, or maybe he's used to regular customers ordering ahead and didn't like having to change his routine, but he was not particularly welcoming. No smile or friendly greeting. I'm fairly sure that he rolled his eyes when I went to pay with cash. I don't know who this person was relative to the restaurant, but it didn't set a good tone. I ordered from the Lunch Specials. I ordered the Chicken Saag special which came with Basmati Rice and Naan. I don't remember the exact cost, but I remember being surprised at how inexpensive it was. Everything on the Lunch Special menu was inexpensive relative to places I frequent. I was told that it would be 10 minutes. I returned around 15 minutes later and my order was ready. All of the food was at least OK to pretty good, but didn't really pop for me. I'm much more familiar with Indian restaurants than I am with Nepalese and Himalayan restaurants, but some of the dishes share names. I'm not sure if there are seasoning and other variations in Indian versus Nepalese cuisine, or if any variations are more based upon the chefs cooking the meals. In any event, Himalaya's version of both the Saag and the chicken in the Saag were different than I'm used to. I prefer the way the Saag is seasoned in my favorite Indian places in CT. I feel like the chicken in most Indian restaurants is kebab style and is cooked in a tandoori oven. Himalaya's chicken had a rougher texture and seemed like it was perhaps roasted. It was pretty good, but probably my least favorite Saag dish I've had in a while. The Basmati rice was fine. The naan was OK. The texture and flavor didn't measure up to my favorite Indian restaurants. I have multiple nearby Indian restaurants that I prefer to Himalaya. In light of that and my less than positive service experience, I'm unlikely to return to Himalaya. However, given Himalaya's strong overall rating, it's clear that others have had good experiences and maybe you'll have better luck than I did. And as I said, the lunch specials are a good value. 3 Stars

The aloo dam was tasty and flavourful, and it would have paired wonderfully with rice or some sort of bread. The veg momos were steaming hot and fresh. The sauces that came with them added a lot of flavour: I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed the momos as much without them. The veg thali came with rice, greens, dal, cauliflower gravy, aloo dam, kheer and pickles. The dal was the standout item. It was my first time trying Tibetan butter tea, and the server warned me that it would be a little salty. The tea had a lovely nutty flavour and thin consistency. I enjoyed it from the perspective of novelty, but I'm not sure if I'll get it again. The server was extremely sweet and service was prompt. The ambience was very pretty, with Tibetan bric a brack and art on the walls. The music was also very soothing. One caveat however is that the food is very, very light and simple, and probably not one immediately thinks of as being "restaurant food" - it has a homemade quality to it. Portions are quite small, and prices are relatively high. Overall, I will return and likely try the chowmein and thukpa.

Restaurant was empty when we walked in for lunch on a weekday. Menu is not expansive but has decent number of options. We got **Thukpa- Nepali noodle soup- this was a bit flavorless, just a lingering taste of tamarind. **fried rice- probably the best dish we ordered but it had a lot of oil. Chicken was overcooked as well. **chow mein- very greasy **chilli chicken- sweet and spicy, I didn't enjoy the sweetness. It had some crunchy veggies. **veggie momos- avoid them if possible. The filling was somehow just not apt for the momo. Overall, the food was greasy, quantities were pathetically less.

My daughter and I came in hungry today and didn't leave disappointed that's for sure. We tried the beef Momo, gangbu lungsha with beef and Tinthuk with pork. The flavors were all incredible. Seriously so on point and I had never tried the Gangbu which was a spicy, garlicky, amazing dish. I asked for extra spicy and then kind of wimped out, so what the chef prepared was honestly perfect. If we're in the area again, we will stop by for sure. Thank you Momo Tibetan!

We've gone many times, and there's never been a single dish we didn't absolutely love. That being said, if you're a first-timer, you simply must order the momos. These handmade dumplings are the highlight of the menu--little pockets of pure, savory bliss that will keep you coming back for more. Beyond the incredible food, the soul of this place is its owners. They are some of the most genuinely kind and gentle people you will ever meet. They have a way of making every single person who walks through the door feel special and appreciated. It's that personal touch that transforms a great meal into a memorable experience. We are so incredibly grateful to have this restaurant in our area. It not only offers us a taste of the delicious and unique foods of Tibet but also provides a warm and welcoming space. MoMo is a testament to the idea that a restaurant can be about more than just food--it can be about hospitality, culture, and community.

I actually tried calling the restaurant to make this request, but they didn't answer after a few attempts. Fortunately, they did it proactively. I ordered the Beef Thukpa (cold spicy noodles) and the Sha Khodhak. The cold noodles were good, and I appreciated the cake, although not too spicy. What I do like, even though it may not be the traditional way to eat it as you can microwave it if you choose. If I were to order it again, I might try it warmed up. But for me, the star of the show Sha Khodhak. The tomato sauce was so richly flavored. Absolutely perfect and spiced to perfection. They did not skim with the chicken and they did not add an unnecessary amount of bell pepper and onion. It was perfectly balanced. The leftovers came together even more the next day. It's not too often that you come across a Tibetan restaurant so I've had this place on my list for a few months. I would like to try more of what they offer, but it's going to be hard not to order the Sha Khodhak again.

My husband and I both got tikka masala dishes. He got chicken and I got the shrimp. In hindsight I wish I had tried the Saag just so we could have tasted a different sauce. However, the tikka masala was truly the best we've ever had. And we are always chasing excellent food so we've had our share. The dumplings were great but we would likely opt for a different appetizer as they didn't really blow us away. The service though is really what puts this place over the top. We were in a bit of a time crunch so I'm disappointed we couldn't stay longer and try dessert so we will definitely be back when we can make it down to SoNo again.

For food, I started with the lentil soup and dumpling (momo) combo. The lentil soup was decent, but the momos were a bit disappointing. They lacked the flavor and juiciness I was expecting, and didn't really stand out. I also tried the chicken curry, which was okay--nothing particularly memorable, but not bad either. One thing I noticed is that the menu and flavors felt more similar to Indian cuisine than authentic Nepalese food. While that's not necessarily a bad thing, it didn't quite deliver the distinct experience I was hoping for. Overall, it's a nice place in terms of atmosphere and service, but the food didn't fully impress me.

I was so happy to hear that they opened another restaurant in Glen Cove! Plenty of street parking is available, and they even have a shared parking lot in back of the restaurant! I parked in the back, and entered the restaurant via the backdoor! Note that there are stairs at the back entrance, so if you can't do stairs, it's best to park in front of the restaurant. This Glen Cove locations is lovely; beautiful murals and great vibes. I was shocked and sad to see it so empty on a Saturday evening! I hope more people give this place a chance because the food and service is great! This was our Shared Menu (plenty for 2ppl, and we had leftovers): -- Water Buffalo Momos w.Chili Sauce (8pcs/$18): the Momos were tasty; the meat was very lean. I would skip the Chili sauce next time. I didn't like the sweet and sour taste of the sauce, so next time I'd like to try the steamed Momos with Johl sauce instead. -- Choila Roti "Not a Taco" with Jackfruit (2pcs/$12): Not a Taco but similar to a taco. This was delicious and I'd get this again. We choice the Jackfruit version but they also have a chicken version. -- Masala Wings (Sauteed wet version) (4pcs/$11): I remember really liking the wings when I was at the Ridgewood location but couldn't recall which wings we had. On this visit, we had the wet version which was good but I realized that I like their dry version better. -- Grilled Lamb Chops w.Timur Sauce, Veggies & white rice (2pcs/$25): Surprisingly, this was my least fave dish of the night. I normally love lamb chops but these chops didn't really have a nice seared taste to them. The texture was a little off for me. Also, it was very boney with not much meat. I would try another entree next time. All in all, a good meal! I found the large selection of appetizers more interesting than the entrees, and would have been happy just sharing a bunch of appetizers and small plates.
