Current Boutique is an absolute gem! I stop here frequently after work or on my days off just to browse and I always end up leaving the store with something adorable or chic. They've got this perfect variety of adventurous and simple styles that never fails to fit me in one way or another. And the staff is so awesome and friendly. Every time I come in I'm greeted warmly and their service isn't that over-attentive style that makes you uncomfortable. They're there when you need or want them to be and they always have phenomenal stylish ideas. Kym, the manager, always remembers me and goes out of her way to ask about my day. The assistant manager, Cynthia, is equally thoughtful and cool. This is definitely my favorite boutique in DC! read more

I stop in this place on occasion because of the window display. Have never been really impressed with the customer service. Was in today, gathered several items to try on, after waiting 15 or 20 minutes for a fitting room I found out one of the employees had kindly returned all my items to the racks. Instead of asking what I was looking for or even feigning remorse for such a dumb move- the employee gave me a blank stare, a big smile and said "oh, sorry". Next time I'll look at the cute display from the sidewalk and spare myself the experience. read more

I was visiting a friend in DC and we went by this boutique on our day of shopping. I found a seemingly perfect gray cashmere sweater, on the pricier end for secondhand (90$), but I got it anyway, thinking I'd be able to wear it for years. Upon wearing it for the first time, I realized the sweater had embedded body odor that was activated by the warmth of my body when wearing for longer than a try-on. The odor is definitively not mine and smells utterly terrible. I have tried everything to get the smell out, from vinegar to enzyme cleaners to dry cleaning, all to no avail. I contacted Current to give them an opportunity to make the situation right, but all they offered was a 20% discount on my next purchase with them. This is not useful to me since I don't live in DC, and it doesn't help the fact that I dropped $90 on an unwearable sweater! I understand sometimes these things happen when shopping secondhand, but I would hope that paying premium prices would mean premium customer service. I just recently moved and came across several pairs of various brands of jeans: Frankie B, Paper Denim, True Religion and Diesel just to name a few, all in good condition I just no longer can wear them. My intentions were to check out the consignment store versus, selling them on letgo or poshmark. I will agree that the staff is not the best when it comes to customer service however, I was greeted but, I heard a vibration and I thought it was my phone. The sales associate said oh no it's mine and picked up the phone and proceed to talk on the phone in front of me. She basically told me I have to take this call. As if I were inconveniencing her and her conversation I started looking around at the clothes. I guess her call came to an end and she came up to me and said they were going to "PASS" on my jeans. I asked why? She had no real reason mind you I'm thinking something is wrong with the clothes, out of style, doesn't fit with the store. NO. The associate stated the store is very selective with their denim and they have so much. The sales associate then proceeded to ask if I wanted to donate my jeans. I wanted to love this shop because I am a neighbor - but it's over priced and the process of actually consigning an item is ridiculous. You drop the items off and then you have to wait months (90 days) and remember to call back to get your money. When I finally returned, I had to wait another week for the check to be cut and mailed. It was a hassle and I'd rather just give things away than go through all of the trouble at this shop. Even worse, the prices are absurd. I found a lovely pair of used knee-high boots - nothing designer - but nice - and the price was $175. I ended up checking out prices online and ordered some Frye boots new for $200. read more

Current Boutique is an MAJOR part of my shopping life, and I highly recommend. Why look like everyone else in the office? There are always hidden gems in those racks, investment pieces to keep for years. A Vera Wang cocktail dress, a Theory blouse, designer jeans, Tod's bag. I have been to all of the locations and prefer 14th for funkier more edgy clothes and Old Town for more conservative work wear. Always organized and friendly. An economical and sustainable way to shop. read more

Where has this place been all my life?!?!? Having scooped up two deals at Martha's Table, I headed to 14th street. Walking in the door I was amazed by the quantity and the organization- racks on the wall and rounders in the middle. I'm used to the bargain shoppers chaos of organization. Walking in here was a breath of fresh air, literally. My eyes did not stop at the new clothes but immediately went to consignment. Brand names like prada, theory, Tory burch, ysl.... The list goes on. Of course there were some Ann Taylor, jcrew, banana republic, gap, etc. First glance of the prices I was hesitant but after thinking hmmmmmm $26 for a gently used blazer from JCrew which would have easily cost 100+ my arms started to fill up with skirts, dresses and blazers. In my mind if it looked good and if the price was right it was to be mine. I spent well over an hour in this store. Not to mention there seemed to be a festive group of ladies in the store that were shopping for Vegas and an older woman who was obviously drunk and had adopted them as her daughters. So I get to the register and the drunk woman's bill comes to $400+. I'm thinking dang for three items? One was a Tory Burch jacket and a Lilith sweater. So when my bill came to $300 I started to look around and for 12 items I think I did pretty good. The most expensive item was a $46 BCBG black tuxedo skirt. The least expensive was a NY&co skirt for $13.99. Brands I left with were items I would normally where and spend the whole day looking for a few deals. Having spent an hour in one store with my favorite labels, made me a happy girl. In the case was a purple, my size, pair of fabulous YSL sandals that had never been worn for $269........Next time. I am in a transition in my life where I want to look both professional and sexy, without blowing my whole check on one item. This was definitely the place for me. I can see myself coming here often. Two filled bags later I am rushing to find a dry cleaners near my house that I can drop off today. Yes I have a thing about consignment/thrift items coming into my house without getting them laundered first. I say all that to say if you are a bargain shopper, need a new style or are just in the neighborhood this store is a must!!!!!! I wonder what the other locations are like????! While I must say I did enjoy shopping here, and saw some great things, one purchase I made, partially my fault for not realizing, really irked me. I found, and purchased, a cute black romper, and knew the brand was familiar "French Connection UK Style." I paid $50 for the consigned piece, only to realize when I got home that it was originally from Sears. I have absolutely no problem with that, but when comparing it with other items from that line, it's safe to say I spent way more than retail price. It was frustrating realizing I paid more for a consigned piece than if I had bought it new. I think that there needs to be a better watch on the brands and pricing them accordingly. read more

This review is solely based on their consignment policy. I would highly recommend taking anything you plan on selling up the street to crossroads, which will give you nearly the same price in cash, day of. They don't tell you in the contract you sign but they won't give you a check for accounts with a balance of less than $20, so they try to goad you into bringing more stuff in. If they don't sell your things within 90 days they can donate it. And they are way overstocked. Great for shopping, terrible for consignment. Plus the one lady that's always working has been quite condescending to me every time I go in. Just too many things wrong with this place to return. read more

I cleaned out my closet and had more than six trash bags full of clothing. I decided to go through it and decide what was consignment-worth and took a small bag to Current. After calling 60 days later, they had no record of my stuff, which included Tory Burch flats! I DO NOT recommend leaving your items with this boutique. read more

I am a huge consigment shopper and I tend to be very picky. I am not going to purchase used clothing unless it is a brand name that I could not afford to buy new. That said, I have visited 3 of the Current Boutiques and found them to be filled with junky, cheap brand clothing. I am sure there are some exceptions here and there, but generally it is never worth my time. The DC store was the worst one, with the Old Town store their best one....but still not good at all. read more

Very disappointing. I bought a t-shirt in October 2014. When I arrived home I realized it had a few moth holes. I went back to the shop and they told me they do not return or exchange items and that they are priced accordingly. Do you really think I would buy a t-shirt with holes, even for 1 dollar? By the way, it was $20. I found this non-return and / or non-refundable policy very disappointment and even disrespectful telling me that I deserve a t-shirt with holes because I "only" paid $20. I LOVE this store. It happens to be directly en-route for me from work to home, so I often stop by. The selection here is top notch (though in terms of style seems to lean towards the younger set - ie - lots of designer denim and friday night out outfits) but the search for the best deals are part of the fun. Prices vary -- some things seem too expensive/similar to new-on-sale pricing and others are a fantastic value. Their (local?) designer pieces (new/not consignment) are well chosen and also (relatively) affordable. The jewelry is beautiful. I particularly recommend this store for those who are searching for dresses for a wedding or other special occasions -- really wide selection of semi-formal-ish wear. read more

I give 2 stars because when i go to a second hand store I want to get a skirt for $4! But if you like high end brand names for cheaper than you'll get at Neiman Marcus, then you'll like this place. Zero customer service! No one offered to get me a room when I had a stack of clothes hanging from my arm. No one helped me, and when I asked one of the gals a question she acted like I was bothering her. Not impressed at all. Does anyone know what customer service means any more?!? read more

A mix of new and second hand items, but all in good condition. The store is huge, bright, and easy to browse. I found a great blazer and a cute spring skirt among the used items and then picked up a funky pair of earrings from the new stuff. There is so much stuff it would be hard not to find something you love, but beware the prices - a lot of the items are high end and so even second hand it can be pricey. The selection alone though will keep me coming back though. read more

I definitely shopped here frequently but will rethink that after today. I bought one of their new dresses, washed it per the instructions on the tag, and it shrunk regardless - from dress to shirt. I called and asked to exchange for the same item and was told no. Just flat out, no. Even for a defective item. I asked to speak with the manager, and was told again, nope. Too bad. I get the no exchange policy but not for this kind of a defect. Customer service fail. Will not shop here again. read more

I almost didn't go here because of the poor reviews, but I am incredibly glad I did! The selection was huge and I found tons of nice work clothes, which was what I was looking for. I interacted with two salespeople, both of whom were incredibly nice, friendly, helpful, and professional. The prices on very high-fashion brands were still high, but on other things, I thought they were pretty reasonable for consignment. Next time I am in the Bethesda area I will definitely be going back. read more

Current Boutique offers an eclectic mix of fun clothing at a range of price points. It's a great place to find something unique for a special occasion, and for shoes and bags. The manager, Kym, and her staff are friendly and customer oriented. I have found the consignment practices are the same--value wise--as the other places in the District I have consigned or sold over the last 20 years (e.g. Secondi, Buffalo Exchange, Crossroads), though I do find they are more efficient and, if you go during non peak hours, there is no line (unlike some of the other places). Also (and this can be a huge deal), the background music is good! read more

I've been using Current on 14th St to consign clothes (& occasionally purchase them) for about 2-3 years. The girls that have assisted me are kind and courteous and have offered help almost immediately upon my arrival at every visit. They are fair and respectful when it comes to taking clothes, and the checks (for my consigned clothes that they've sold) on the back end have been an added bonus! read more

Current is the best new spot on 14th Street. LOVE! One of the managers of the store hand picked me a dress, I tried it on, and walked out in the dress - with a bounce in my step. Current has the perfect variety of prices. You can easily find a summer dress, work dress or cocktail dress in the boutique section. And if you want to push up your sleeves and get busy, there are AMAZING finds in the consignment section of the store. Also if you have anything to consign, you do not have to make an appointment (which is rare is this town). read more

I was excited to hear about Current a consignment shop on 14th St., NW in my neighborhood. I visited the store Memorial Day weekend, I brought in a few pairs of sandals that I had made in Milan, Italy. They were just as good as any other shoes or sandals in the shop.The salesperson was very rude and unfriendly, I would never go into that shop again. Not a huge fan of their clothing, but gave them 3 stars because of their customer service. The sales associate was very helping in suggesting items and even through in some pieces that had nothing to do with the event I was shopping for. (sales training 101) Unfortunately certain brands that they carry, did not fit properly and the consignment pieces were a tad dated. Maybe all the fashionable people that live around U street and Logan Circle take their clothing to Crossroads instead. read more

My mom, cousin and I were having a great girls night out and decided to stop by this boutique. Though I thought some of the prices were a little high, I was excited about some of selections that they had. Now, we did come in late and didn't realize it was closing, as none of the associates let us know. It wasn't until the music stopped, that I figured they were to close soon, but still, no one approached us. Instead, all I heard were huffing and puffing from the associates and them making comments like "being so ready to leave." Finally, when one of them approached us to let us know they were closed, she was very abrupt and rude. Then later as she passed me she stared me up and down, to which I also did the same since this is how they choose to communicate apparently. I work in retail, a store much much busier than this little boutique. We often have customers who stay later, which we gladly welcome. So I have no sympathy for the fact that they were so busy on a Monday, their "chill day." Yes, it's Presidents' Day, what did you expect? They could've kindly communicated that they were closing, and offered to help or ask if we were looking for anything. Instead, they just laughed and makes side comments to themselves in a small, quiet, boutique where anyone who was in the store could hear their comments. I love and support local shops, and as I write this at Peet's an associate kindly told us they were to close. So simple, and yet for these gals at Current Boutique, so hard to communicate. While I have never consigned with Current, I can say as a shopper I have had nothing but excellent experiences with them! About a year or so ago, after watching 'The True Cost,' I determined to make a change in the way I consume - full stop, really. I committed to shopping/consuming in three ways 1) buy less, buy better (in terms of quality), 2) buy existing (consigned, vintage - whatever you want to call it), 3) buy ethical (if you really can't find it consigned/vintage, then only buy new from companies who are producing ethically and are transparent about their manufacturing process). I work in the design industry so aesthetics matter a great deal. Over the past year I have found countless high quality, well-designed items at Current that feel and look great, inside and out. And some of the items looks as if brand new - I have found Jimmy Choo and Christian Louboutin shoes, a Mackage coat, Milly evening dress & coat, Helmut Lang casual tops & pants and several cashmere sweaters in immaculate condition. I've built up a nice rapport with the staff there and have really enjoyed my interaction with them - I feel they are genuinely delighted when someone 'scores' a great find. I wish I could give Current Boutique more stars, I really do, because I really like the inventory in their 14th street location - they showcase a good mix of street styles. I haven't had an issue with the staff, they haven't been rude per se and once in a while you come across an employee that's helpful AND friendly. My main gripe (like many others) is with their prices! They say they charge 2/3 of the full price; however, they don't take the condition of an item into account, even when there are visible signs of wear. I get that this is a step up from thrift but these are still (mostly) used clothes, people! A lot of their items are priced similarly to what you'd pay at an end of season sale, which is ridiculous. I bought an Anthro brand bag and upon taking it home and cleaning it found a number of holes in the lining that I had to fix, which should have knocked the price down. The place seems overstuffed with fading trends at times and if their prices were more reasonable they'd probably get a regular rotation of fresh inventory. I'll probably still pop in when I'm in the neighborhood but will be pretty picky about what I decide to take home. read more

Absolutely avoid this place at all costs! I have consigned MANY high quality, expensive designer clothes at this location since 2010. For the first few years, my clothes would sell quickly and I would get a check. I was always reassured by multiple staff members that my items would be kept on the floor or eventually returned to me if they didn't sell "because it's all really nice stuff." Over the last year, virtually none of my clothes have sold for some strange reason. I just visited the store and spoke with the manager. It turns out that many of my items were "donated" and only a very few items are still available. The manager acknowledged that various staff members were misleading customers into thinking they could get their items back at some point and referred me over and over to the contract that I signed where it states that items will be donated after 90 days. She stated that staff members who were misleading customers were "let go" and further stated under no circumstances could I get any of the very few items I have remaining back. She absolutely refused to make "any exceptions" for me. I have no way of knowing if the items were actually donated or sold for that matter--all I know is that from a valuable consignment made earlier this year I have a grand total of $12.50 in my account. I feel completely mistreated as a customer and community member and I will NEVER do business with this company again. read more
