I've come to this salon three times now, and each time I've walked away completely satisfied. I have really thick, super curly coarse hair and work with Khadija. Not only does she do a phenomenal job with cutting and shaping my hair, she also provides education on how to take care of the curls and my new cut. (Plus, her hands are *magic* when she's washing your hair!) She's also really, really nice. I just had my second hair cut here and I'm disappointed The first time was better but still it was cut way too short. This time, even shorter despite me telling her NOT short. She cut bangs which I did not want, right at eye level as well as layers that align with the bangs so I have this line all around my head! ugh. Hat hair now for sure until it grows out. Bummer. Wont return. For the cost of $105 for a hair cut, I was not expecting this. She also used a different hair gel than last time that did not hold the curls, even by the end of the day. It's good to remember to treat yourself every once in awhile. I've been doing the Curly Girl Method religiously since November 2016. And this is my first haircut since starting that process. Probably last time my hair was cut was summer of 2016. Pre curly girl method, I would blow-dry my hair straight and then get it cut. But I found what I would end up with is an uneven haircut once I returned my hair to it's natural curly state. I discovered the DevaCut (dry curly haircut) thanks to a well known Instagram curly stylist in Ohio and did my research to find a DevaCurl Stylist here in Arizona. What I found was Curls Gone Wild!! I was a little nervous going in this past Saturday and decided to get to the salon 30 minutes early. Khadija and the rest of the crew was extremely friendly and kind. I felt welcomed the moment I stepped through the door. The salon is clean and open. They carry the DevaCurl product line, which I have been using off an on for years. They walked me through the whole process (wash, style, dry, cut) and I gained some extra knowledge on how to take care of my curls. My 3rd day refresh is looking killer today! Wow, I cant believe this place exists. I have never seen a salon geared towards people with curly hair! For once a salon with people who share curly hair, pic of curly hair, and products for us! Best haircut I have had in town. It does book up fast so I recommend scheduling in advance! You can do a dry cut or wash and cut. Since it was the first time I did the wash and cut and wow! I learned so much about best practices for washing my hair and it has been a game-changer. It was not rushed and such an enjoyable experience. There was a lot of thought and questions put into the cut as well to make sure it turned out just how I wanted! This is always a struggle as many tend to cut more than I want but they were spot on. I have some pretty significant allergies and cannot use most (or any) curly girl products. Today Melanie proved to me her technique gets results--no gel, no conditioner, just lots and lots of defined curls. I was so impressed! I had the Discover Your Curls appointment and I was amazed at the time Melanie and her staff took to teach me her technique. The appointment took over two hours, but was completely worth the time. I also want to say that I follow #cgm on IG and thought I knew what I was doing. I didn't. I really appreciated how Melanie interacts with her employees. She's an absolute professional. I do not know how to even start this review, I've never been to a curly salon. Being from small town Mississippi, we just don't really have them. I came for a haircut but, (as cheesy as it sounds), they blew my mind. The education and hair cut were amazing. I've never had my hair look like this. I came to the salon with damaged hair and made it clear that I needed help reviving my curls or advice on if I should just big chop the damage. I set up my appointment through text off a number they had posted on instagram. They were great with communication and setting up the appointment. The facility was clean. All the stylists were very busy when I got there and no one acknowledged me when I walked in. I sat and waited.... And waited... and waited. My stylist was 30 mins late. She washed my hair and and defined my hair with curl cream it came out to be $105. She didn't educate me on how to take care of my damaged hair to get the curls to revert, or give any recommendations other than for me to get it braided to grow it out. read more

I initially heard about Melaine and Curls Gone Wild from a coworker about 10 years ago. I was very skeptical because I've never found anyone who could make my curls look and stay nice. My stylist was soshi & she did not disappoint! I used to have 3b/3c curls but after highlighting my hair and it being over processed in Las Vegas, it hurt my curl pattern. I was so disappointed and knew that I had to go to the best of the best and I found her today. She let me know that I would never get the curl pattern back but we could definitely work with what I already had. She educated me on how to maintain my curls nice and healthy, she took her time cutting my hair (she truly showed me the definition of precision cut) and listened to what I was looking for. This was my third time getting a deva cut and I get one every year. This time I got my cut with Melanie and she was very knowledgeable and experienced on curly hair. I have never gone this short before with my hair but I love it and she did a great job shaping it. She really knows what she is doing! Every time I come here I learn something new about how to take care of my curls. The reason why I did not give this 5 stars was because the downside is that I did not get a refresher on the curly set up and was not even asked if I wanted them to go over it. I now realize I really did need one. Recently after my haircut I styled my curls with deva products and they just do not look how I would like. I liked how they looked when I walked out of the salon, but unfortunately I am not seeing the same results. I just do not know what I am doing wrong. One word, blessing. If you have curly hair you need to RUN to this place. I got my first curly cut today and I can not say enough good things about this place. You start off talking about your issues and desires for your curly mane. For me it was mainly frizz and uneven curls along with some damaged ends and lack of volume, so I wanted a trim. My hair was almost at my waist when I came in and I lost about two inches with both the cut (1 inch) and how much curlier my hair got. You then get a course on how to clean your hair while your stylist does it for you. They use the deva curl no poo shampoo followed by the "smoothing" technique with tons of conditioner which for me was where the magic happened. My hair started to get shiny and curl all on its own. After rinsing you move into gel which normally I hate bc I don't like hard hair but once dry you scrunch again and it softens. Then you learn the "clipping" technique to provide volume to your mane. Finally you get your hair air dried followed by the cut. Yes your hair is cut dry which is KEY. Since for me it was just a trim not much hair was cut which is exactly how I like it Melanie did my hair and she did an amazing job with the whole thing she explained everything so well and I am extremely happy with it. My first cut was $70 and everything was included I also get a refresher course which I'm not entirely sure what that means so I will update later. This past Thursday was my second time coming here after over a year, and I must say that I LOVED my visit this time around! I had an appointment with Melanie who I believe is the owner. To start, I am not very savvy when it comes to caring for my natural hair as it has only been a year and a half since I went natural, so I was not taking care of my hair properly and giving it the moisture that it really needs. When I had my appointment with Melanie she was SO helpful! During the whole process of doing my hair she was telling me everything she was doing and giving thorough instructions so I can apply it at home, I've never had someone explain how to care for my hair like she did. The instructions were so simple unlike most ways I've tried to learn how to care for my hair (mainly YouTube videos) and now I feel confident that I can get my hair back to a healthy state! I was very pleased with how patient they were with handling my hair because my hair is very thick and I have type 4 curls (very tight) so it was a lengthy process where she had to have someone help her thoroughly wash my hair (oops!) but needless to say they were still very nice about it and took their time. I am very happy with how my hair has turned out, my curls are now SO defined again without having to twist them myself after I wash it. I will definitely follow Melanie's instructions on how to take care of my hair so it can grow faster and healthier! I am a long time customer of CGW. I have had many amazing cuts here but today's experience was extremely disappointing. I paid $85 for a 10 minute haircut and left with frizzy, lifeless, sticky hair. There is just waaaay too much gel in it and I can't wait to wash it out.
