My curls looked so healthy and shiny. They had so much spring and bounce- I love it! I had some questions about refreshing my curls after a wash and Natasha took the time to give me a proper curl lesson. She really took the time to break things down for my curl type. I enjoy coming here. The prices are very reasonable and I don't spend 5 hours at the salon. I picked up two new Deva products when I was there because their prices are cheaper than Ulta and Sephora. I went to this salon yesterday for the first time. I'm a Devachan loyalist - have been going to the Broome street location for my curly cuts for 10+ years until they recently closed that location this summer. Since then I've been trying to find a curly salon and a stylist I feel comfortable with. I decided to give Curls All Out a try because it's close to where I live. I recently had a baby and haven't had my hair cut in about 8 months. I give this shop and Iris 5 stars for the following reasons (1) she's very professional, polished and upfront about her service policies. I appreciate these qualities b/c there are no surprises and and her professionalism gave me confidence that she knew her craft well. She proactively explained what she was doing to my hair in detailed steps, including what products she was using and why and she also explained her technique thoroughly. (2) she gave me a great haircut. Even though the shape wasn't perfect at first, we got it there and she was very open to making adjustments along the way. (3) her price was reasonable / the going rate for a curly cut. (4) I was in and out within an hour. Overall great spot. A hidden gem!! So a friend of mine took her daughter (14) for her first curly hair salon experience and she sat in the chair for 10 Minutes and was told that nothing could be done with her hair because she used a flat iron and that she would have to come back after 3 months of no heat. Unfortunately, due to COVID19 protocols her mom was not present when this occurred. Mom had to come back quickly to get her. Shaming a young lady who is learning about her curly hair journey is absolutely terrible. In a time when we should be lifting up our young women, this business has contributed to shaming!!! I've pondered on whether or not I should give this place a review for the last week. After looking at my credit card statement for $150, I figured I had to. Let me paint the picture of my first experience getting a "curly cut" at this location. I call in around 11am and get the voicemail for about half an hour. I finally get a call back an hour later and set up an appointment. I'm pleasantly surprised they had availability the day of. Usually great curly care locations are pretty booked. This should have been my first sign! I book my appointment (give my cc up front and I'm told that if I miss my appointment I will be charged) then get a call back three separate times from the same receptionist "returning my call". (Ok- no problem) I get to the location about 45 min early. If you are charging my card for missing my appointment, I will make it my business to be there nice and early :) I get to the location only to find it closed. No worries, I wait at a local location. Pop back in 10 min before my appointment and the owner Iris, looks somewhat confused/annoyed that I was early. Okkk... I ask her, what time does this salon open, the website says 10am? She hesitates, as irritated by my question and says "how do I say this, umm I have the luxury of opening when I feel like it". Ummm- Okkk. No problem. I found that answer to be rude and hasty. There is obviously a much more nicer way to say, we really open by appointment! Anyhoo- when my stylist comes in ( I am the only person sitting and waiting) the ladies get super quiet and whisper in the other room. Obviously I felt as though they were just speaking of my exchange (Very rude and awkward). Finally, it's my appointment time and I am super excited. I can't even begin to explain how heat damaged my hair is. I wasn't expecting for a miracle but I literally walked out like WTH did I just spend $150 on? I honestly curl my hair 10x better at my house with the same exact products. It was insane. I am grateful for the cut but my lord. It was horrible. It was as if they either didn't know what to do with it, or simply gave up. I walked out and sat in my car like this can't be real. If you have kinky (type 4 hair) or very thick hair do not come here. My appointment was earlier today with Iris. The staff was nice enough but were not equipped to handle my hair. I had to immediately restyle and cut rogue long pieces that were left when I got home. That should not be the case after spending $105 on a service. Overall WAY too much length was cut off, it was not cut evenly, and it was styled horribly. Also, CAO should not be instructing clients to come with their hair dry with no product and un-manipulated if they cannot handle it on clients with type 4 hair. I was charged an additional $10 fee (presumably for detangling) because I followed these instructions. I think the major issue was that the stylist had no idea how to work with my hair in a dry, shrunken state. Beware kinky girls, this salon is not for you! read more

Very talented stylists however their customer service needs to be adjusted. They have a very annoying appointment reminder system which includes multiple phone calls and text messages. They are very pushy and the last time I had enough and told them I had to reschedule and all of a sudden they changed their cancellation notice to let me know next time they would need 40% deposit because I'm taking up 1.5 hours and they can't reschedule me anymore. For the record this is more than 1 week before my appointment. I looked past this part a few times as I don't trust anyone with my three daughters' hair but the first time, instead of seeing my girls back to back they squeezed in customers during the time and I was there for over 3 hours. Unprofessional, rude and supercilious owner! There seems to be a running theme with negative reviews regarding this salon. Apparently the customer is not always right and the staff and owner especially, have a superiority complex and higher than thou mentality towards its patrons. About 2 yrs ago I was so excited I had found a curly salon close to home because up until then I was on the hunt for one. It was March of 2019. I was 6 months postpartum and desperately in need of a trim. At this point i had already gone to Iris (owner) twice before and had no issues with my cut. She used to charge $85 then which was far more affordable than other salons at the time. I proceeded to schedule an appt via the app Vagaro which i guess she was using at the time. Everything was set, and i had received my confirmation email for appt on 3/23 @ 3:30 pm. The day of while i was preparing to leave with car keys in hand, (salon is literally 10 min from me) i get a call from the salon from the front receptionist asking me "where was I and if i was close?" I was confused because my appt wasn't for another 30 min. So i told her i was getting in my car and leaving now, i would be there in approx 10 min. The receptionist told me if i didn't arrive in the next 5-10 min I would have to reschedule my visit. So i told her okay i was on my way. She then told me i was too far away and then with having to find parking I would not make it in time. I told her my appt was scheduled for 3:30 and i didn't understand why I was being called this early and that i had the confirmation email to prove it. She then proceeded to argue with me, cutting me off, speaking in a harsh condescending tone that my appt was for 3.15 and they could no longer accommodate me. This went on for a few min until I asked to speak with the owner as there was a definite misunderstanding. At the time I had to make special arrangements with a baby sitter and did not just want to cancel. After some harsh words were exchanged from a VERY rude receptionist, she wouldn't let me speak, i just canceled the appt all together. The receptionist was so incredibly rude, even after multiple attempts to try to calmly straighten out the misunderstanding. I get a DM message later that day from the owner explaining that my appt time was MOVED WITHOUT my consent or knowledge because Iris had to move around her spots that day. Then she told me she does not stand for her receptionist being "harassed" and wouldn't reschedule my appt. Instead of getting to the root of the problem and accommodating or compensating ME for THEIR mistake, or even apologizing for the rude behavior of her staff, she cuts off a LOYAL client. She took absolutely ZERO ACCOUNTABILITY for the mistake THEY made. I then see right after the owner was "filming" some content for her IG page which lead me to believe that maybe my appt was canceled intentionally. I had recommended 5 of my friends and family by this point. She rants about people who don't keep appts, etc., but she needs to work on her professionalism and actions towards her patrons. The owner is very young, mid to late 20's and has A LOT to learn about running a business, taking accountability and most importantly how to talk to people!! I will NEVER recommend this salon or go here. There are better salons where clients get treated with respect and dignity. Another thing, the owner SHOVES Deva Curl products on her clients even after recent scandals regarding the brand and shames you for trying other products. She is very judgmental. read more

When I went there I didn't feel like I was important to the staff or the owner. Even though the owner and I share the same heritage I thought she would understand my hair more being that it's kinky curls instead she had her assistant do my hair that was Caucasian and I hated it so the owner stepped in and tried to adjust/fix my hair but it was a fail. I'm probably never going back. Due to not getting that wow factor: my hair was brittle and dry when I left. I'm looking for a curly salon that I can go to regularly so then I can also bring my curly child there. To conclude I didn't like that I felt unwanted at that establishment do to my hair texture (as in every time another woman with curly hair would walk in the salon they would get so much more attention than the kinky 4c girl waiting for hair TLC) and also I just didn't like the whole process while my hair was getting done and after my hair was getting done honestly the curls that I had before when I arrived was much more defined than the puffy mess that I had after. I had to go home wash and condition my hair again and style it overnight so then it can be somewhat better the next day then I had to braid my hair in cornrows and wear a wig for four months for my hair to grow out. I am disappointed I expect a whole lot more from someone that I thought would understand my hair better since we have similar hair textures or rather being a curly hair salon and on top of that being a Dominican woman. When I arrived, the owner was on the phone giving someone a hard time and made it impossible for whoever was on the phone to make an appointment. When I was called to the chair and discussed what I would like and what she recommended, she told me ok lets make an appointment for your cut. What??? She insisted the appointment was only for a consult. There was only one person in the salon being serviced by another worker. She made it impossible to make an appointment-no Saturday appointments until the next year and the latest appointment is 4:00 and if I wanted a 5:00 appointment I would go on a waiting list. I will never make an appointment with Curls All Out as the owner is unprofessional and had the attitude like she did not want my business. Her attitude was appalling. The appointment was for today , I had to unfortunately cancel due to this snow storm ( which the STATE DECLARED A STATE OF EMERGENCY ) and the business actually charged me a partial of my $200 haircut to my card as a fee. If i could give zero stars i would. This might have been the worse experience. I went there to get pintura highlights for my curly hair. I asked her what color would be fine nothing to light that wouldn't damage my hair and She said ok we can do this color. She put the dye and when she washed it she said your hair did what i didn't want it to do. Meaning it picked up red. So she said i had 2 options. Color it back to the original color or leave it half blonde half red. Which wasn't an option for me. I said ok just color it back. she proceeded to say well you still have to pay me 50% of the service for my time. At that point i was very annoyed.... i went home and realized she never colored it back to the natural color. It was still the same and my curls are completely DAMAGED!!!!!!!!!!! I couldn't brush thru my curls at all! She ended up calling me back saying she would reimburse me the 50% i paid because "she felt bad" are you kidding ! Now i have damaged curls and 4 different colors. Do not go here unless you want your hair damaged. She is not experienced in color what so ever! read more

I've been going to Iris for years and she never disappoints! Iris is very attentive and sweet every time I come to visit her. Please note, she is very popular so she is booked weeks out so keep that in mind when trying to find something the week you're calling for. My haircuts are always on point and I feel so much better once my dead ends are cut off. This salon does not want to accommodate you - they want YOU to accommodate THEM. They have many rules, and checklists that you're supposed to fulfill even before you arrive. They won't do color on the same day as a cut. They want you to come for a hair cut with just-washed but totally dry hair, with a certain amount of a specific product in it. Not easy when it takes curly hair hours to dry. They sell good products but only in XL (most expensive) sizes so you have to make stop elsewhere if you want a smaller amount. They prefer cash tips but they don't make change, so you have to go to the Dublin Donuts across the street, which doesn't give change unless you buy something. In sum: this place just doesn't give good customer service. They DO give good haircuts for curly haired people - but so do other places these days (finally!) so I will definitely try someplace else. read more

I tried to reschedule prior to 72 hours because my daughter's school assessment testing were just sent out and conflict with the appointment and they were closed, so I left a message. They just called me back and told me in order to book another appointment I would need to pay another $50 and lose the current$50 already paid... so basically they want me to pay $140 for a kid's haircut-I get they took a hit during quarantine, but my color salon doesn't take a deposit and and just spent a ton on products last week there when we went in to make her appointment... I understand policies but life happens and they lost 2 loyal customers and all of my referrals. They must have forgotten that that we are in the midst of a pandemic. We've all gone without haircuts/colors for months and during that time found ways to survive. For many people, getting back to theses luxuries are a hardship. read more

I waited 30 minutes despite making an appointment. All seemed well until 4 days later when I washed my hair and realized it was uneven. I called Monday morning in order to come back in but was called back Tuesday afternoon. I made the appointment and reached out to the owner Iris through Instagram explaining my situation and asking if they would provide me with a complimetary styling along with my cut because of the inconvenience caused (I had to pay a sitter to stay with my 5 month old and pump enough breastmilk to last a few hours) she declined. She called me shortly afterwards and explained that I was lucky she wasn't charging me to fix the cut. Once I came in for the cut the owner didn't greet me, apologize or acknowledge me at all. Natasha who initially cut my hair was apologetic and I understand it was an honest mistake but the treatment I received from Iris shows she is unprofessional and lacks integrity. My daughter has been going to Iris (the business owner) every 4-5 months for a haircut for the past 4 years. Unfortunately, Iris' lack of professionalism in rescheduling my daughter's appointment is the reason for this review. I am very well aware of the salon policies, as like I said, we had been there many times. I called the salon on Tuesday (1:38pm) to reschedule an appointment we had for Friday at 3pm. I left a message as no one answered the phone during her normal hours of operation. Iris finally called me back on Thursday and IMMEDIATELY told me I had to pay a 40% rescheduling fee. I explained to her that I DID call within her 72 hour policy and did not think I should be responsible for paying this fee. She said she would check her call log and call me back. 5 hours later, she called back and again insisted that I needed to pay this fee. I again, reiterated the time I initially called to reschedule (which she should have know had she really checked her call log) and GUESS WHAT? she said it was her mistake. Maybe she should have listened instead of being so stubborn. At that point, I just didn't feel like rescheduling the appointment anymore. She then proceeded to tell me, a loyal client, that she did not appreciate MY attitude and that I would still have a balance of 40% of my service on my account. WHAT?!?
