Cute, quaint neighborhood spot in Bryn Mawr. Stopped in last night for a glass of wine. I didn't realize they had such an extensive menu (for a coffee shop), and read a couple reviews saying the BLT rocked so I'll have to go back. My only suggestion for the staff is not to recommend a wine if you don't know anything about wine. I didn't ask for a recommendation, ordered a full bodied zinfandel, and they kept trying to talk me into Pinot Noir for some reason. Wow, I sound like a wine snob--about the closest I get to being a wine connoisseur is wanting more than $2 buck chuck, but never spending more than $15 (for a bottle)! read more

An outstanding neighborhood coffee shop. Great location on an acutely-angled Bryn Mawr corner means a wedge of windows and a generous banquette lined with two-tops towards the rear. Plus a super cozy niche way in back. I had a fresh-made bagel-cheese-ham breakfast that was far superior to pre-mades in other chain shops, and a sturdy decaf Americano. I've been coming in here at least a couple times a week since I moved here a couple of months ago, and it still doesn't feel like they recognize me, which I kind of appreciate, frankly. It makes me feel like I can go out looking like crap and not worry about it. (Of course, maybe if I looked nicer, they would remember.) Anyway, they make the fastest latte of anyone in the Bryn Mawr/St. Louis Park/Kenwood area (they even beat Starbucks), and it's not a bad latte. Perhaps they move so quickly and effiently they don't have time to recognize you. I'm also a sucker for the fact that they have only sesame bagels and they always toast them for you. It's just nice. I tried a curry chicken wrap today, and it was surprisingly good. I do wish they'd invest in a better sandwich menu and maybe a sandwich press -- it's a little lacking as a restaurant, and i feel like it holds a lot of unfulfilled potential that way (particularly since Bryn Mawr doesn't have much else!). FYI: They also serve wine and beer, so it goes beyond Cuppa Java to Cuppa Alcohol, which is good to know if you're in the neighborhood later in the day. read more

Everything they do here is great! I love their salads, soups, sandwiches, bars, cookies, breakfast sandwiches, and coffee drinks. My favorite salad is their garden salad with grilled chicken. Avocado and red pepper come standard on their garden salad, which is a really fun and unexpected surprise. They have delicious coffee cake and muffins, all homemade. Best soy Chai Tea latte in MPLS!!!! Downfall: The staff could smile more- they always look so hipster & serious. If you stay in the cafe for more than 10min, you will leave smelling like the kitchen. Open most nights til 10:30 so that works for me. Good parking, easy access to highway. Nearby market, pizza shop, community space, art gallery, antique store. Nice neighborhood. This place has the best coffee and sandwiches. Try the clubhouse which is a blt w turkey and avocado. Breakfast sandwiches are the beat w super fresh ingredients. Stopped here after the Sugar Rush Yelp Event. What a great idea! The staff was extremely friendly and informative. I had some white tea and a chocolate chip cookie. I LOVE chocolate chip cookies, and this was definitely a 4-star chocolate chip cookie. The white tea was really good as well. Bryn Mawr is this unique location/neighborhood that is easy to appreciate. It just feels more laid back here. This same attitude translates into Cuppa Java. read more

My partner and I decided to stop by Cuppa Java while we were hunting for a new place to live last summer. The experience with the staff, the food and the atmosphere was an absolute treat. Since then, we were fortunate enough to find a place to live in the Bryn Mawr area and I can safely say that we frequent this place pretty much everyday. It really goes beyond the standard independently owned coffee shops And I simply can't resist offering a small rebuttal to Ryan L.'s review below. I actually feel that Cuppa Java set the bar for Sparks where customer service is concerned. The philosophy and approach to the entire experience is fundamentally the same, good food, good service, good environment but the approach each restaurant takes is radically different. They are both absolutely successful in their own approaches. I have never had any negative experience with the staff. If you're pleasant and reasonable they will bend over backwards for you. I have never witnessed an instance (and I am in this place often) where they were rude or impatient with a customer, no matter how awful the customer happened to be (and there have been some notable characters). To suggest that the rest of these reviews are mere "claims" of quality is rather audacious on Ryan L's part. I would absolutely recommend stopping by and grabbing their Cuban or their Roasted Red Pepper and Gouda soup (if they've got it). They're a great place to start getting acquainted with this gem of a coffee shop. read more

Avoid this place. The Cubano cost $9 and was worse than Super Mom's. Wow! I wanted to like this place.... after thirty minutes I was met with a speech about complicated Cubano sandwiches. You bag of Frito Lay chips and stale bread was worse than gas station food. read more

This place reminds me so much of Caffe Apropos in Columbus: it even smells the same! You have your OK espresso, hot/cold sandwiches, (bottled) beer and wine, and a chill environment to hang out. It's similarly a bit out of the way and has a little bar area where you saddle up and enjoy a Stella or some wine (5-7 happy hour) and/or lounge about on your laptop. And there are likewise huge pieces of cake: I'm glad I was planning on staying there for a while after getting a huge chunk of German chocolate cake. It's definitely worth a little detour off the Cedar Lake Trail to Bryn Mawr's tiny business district. read more

I ordered their corned beef sandwich with a side of soup. My sandwich was very large for the price of less than $7 and the Italian sausage tortellini side soup was only $2.50. Both tasted excellent. Their bread was wonderful! I will definitely have to go back to try a baked good and one of their beverages. I would give this place a 5 out of 5, but I did not try any of their beverages or baked goods so it is still kind of hard to give them that perfect score. I have no complaints about this place the food and service were definitely what I look for when I go out for lunch. read more

Went in for a late night coffee and walked in to a live band playing Christmas music and packed place. The energy inside was great! Most people seemed to be there for wine and beer which I thought was odd given the name of the place, but everyone was having a great time. This is definitely a place I could see spending a lot of time just hanging out, if only I lived in the area. My large mocha and slice of pumpkin bread was also fantastic, served by two very nice guys behind the counter. I'd never been in the area before and it had a very small town community feel even though it's right there in the city. read more

I love this place. I live near Bryn Mawr and always make a stop here when I can. Great coffee, a great atmosphere (cozy, fun, trendy), and good people. The cashiers that work there are always nice (especially the owner). They support the community and positive social issues which is admirable. Their food is awesome...it's not fast...but it's great! I love the Grilled Hawaiian. Definitely try their breakfast sandwiches too. Their bakery items are always fresh. They serve beer and wine, which makes it a great place for a quick happy hour.
