I hadn't realized that they offered sandwiches until I was looking at some of the reviews of local coffee shops. The Cubano is exquisite, and if it is that good then I'm going to have to come back and try their Reuben. My large skinny almond latte was perfectly prepared; nice soft mouthfeel, just a dollop of foam, hot without being scalding, although a bit lacking on the latte art. Too bad they don't serve in a mug. The cafe has a corner entrance and is shaped like a triangle. Seating isn't overly comfortable, but there is sufficient room to work. If you want a bit of privacy then there is a small table and two comfy chairs in the back apex of the triangle. read more

This place is tucked away on a corner drive by it occasionally. I was hungry today... got a late start on breakfast. I ordered their you make it breakfast bagel (or croissant). I had provolone cheese egg and turkey. Sandwich was made on the spot ...hot not dry... toasted just right. Very Good! As I stated earlier you can order your own sandwich with choices of cheese and meat for just under $5 bucks. I also ordered a hot Chai tea also very good. All in all I spent a little over $8 dollars. This place has breakfast and lunch items on thier menu again made fresh on site. I drive...bike...scooter out of my way to stop at Cuppa Java. They make a great Latte, but it goes beyond that. I am officially addicted to the Pepperjack grilled cheese with Tomato I get there, with a pickle spear on the side :) whoo hoo. I have luckily been too full after eating my sandwich to go back to the dessert case, because it all looks too good and I have no self control around chocolate. What I like the most about Cuppa Java, is that I don't break the bank when I stop there. Which means, I can stop there more often. I can get my coffee and sandwich/pickle/chips and it is pretty much the same as if I got a coffee and scone at any other shop - go figure. The staff is friendly enough, they offer a smile. I don't like coffee. Or rather, I like to smell coffee but I won't and don't drink it unless it's loaded up with sugar, cream, cinnamon, nutmeg and whatever else so technically it isn't coffee anymore, at least according to my mom and dad, and unfortunately that's one of those deeply rooted parental judgments I haven't figured out how to outgrow yet. So to solve it, I just don't drink "coffee." Despite the noticeable lack of coffee in my life, I still enjoy coffee shops. I love sipping hot chocolate in coffee shops. And a cup of scorching black tea in the winter is maybe the best thing ever. And the bakery displays are always fun to ogle, even if I'm able to talk myself out of ordering something. So anyway, I've only been here once. I hesitate to write up my review of Cuppa Java, however too thankful that a friend recommended this spot for today's lunch outing. Bryn Mawr is a neighborhood I do not frequent too often if ever. There are a handful of cute shops, and Cuppa Java is planted nicely on the busiest corner. On a Wednesday for a late lunch we easily found a table inside by the floor to ceiling windows, however there were a handful of patio tables open as well. The prices were super reasonable. My sandwich came to $6 with all of the options under $10. They also have a selection of wine and beer both having happy hour specials. My sandwich was the BLT with Pumpernickel Bread. I have never seen such thick and solid bread! The bacon was perfectly crisp, and after this sandwich I was a happy lady. My dining companion ordered the Curried Chicken Sandwich which she was also impressed with. To top this - these orders came out in a jiffy! We spent about 2.5 hours catching up and gabbing on and not once did we feel rushed. There were diners camped out at the bar, enjoying a beer and what looked to be a day-time soap opera on the big screen (adding to the nostalgia). Love it! I literally could not hate this place more. These reviews, claiming delicious coffee and courteous staff; we must not've frequented the same establishment. I've lived in the neighborhood for six years. I go here only because of proximity, and then only as a last resort. Now that Sparks is open, I need never return. So this isn't based on a single bad experience; this is based on bad experiences every time I (or my girlfriend) have walked through the door. The bottom line: the staff is horrendous. HORRENDOUS. I cannot emphasize this enough. The signature attitude on display by every sad-sack crab-apple who works here is one of being massively inconvenienced by your very presence. "Sigh, if I MUST tell you the bottled beers we have, I guess I will. And now that you've interrupted me with the gall to actually order one, I am now forced to ask for your ID, which is the absolute worst thing that has happened to me all day. God forbid you order food, because then I'll have to go make it, slowly, and badly." This is what it's like, without fail. Besides that, the coffee sucks, the food is mediocre, and the layout is incomprehensible. I live just outside of Bryn Mawr, and I pass this place on my way to work every day. After quitting my second job, I've finally had some free time to do things like sit in coffee shops writing yelp reviews on my MacBook. So far, so good, Cuppa Java. A nice, small place with a pretty big variety of food, plus the normal coffee shop fare (baked goods, coffee). I've only gotten coffee here, but it is smooth and tasty. The staff has been friendly, and on a normal afternoon it's pretty quiet. I'll probably end up here a few times a week, now. It's fun and friendly. read more

This has been my home base since moving back to the cities a couple years ago. They offer a nice variety of food and drinks, their coffee is well brewed and the atmosphere is great. Cuppa Java is also a great player in the local community, hosting events, art openings, and caucus prep meetings. While there is limited space in the winter months, the flow in and out is constant and it's not very long to find a table if there isn't one available right at the moment. I noticed another yelper mention the chai tea being powdered, which it is. I think this is a real "you like it or you don't" type thing, because I'm a big iced chai drinker and I really prefer the way that it's made with the powder to the pre boxed mixes that a lot of places use. The food is always fresh and made with QUALITY ingredients, veggies, meat, etc. I have lunch here at least twice a week and have never left feeling unsatisfied. Blueberry muffin is the best I've ever had, I also love the breakfast croissants, turkey & Swiss melt and the turkey wild rice soup. If I am in Bryn Mawr, I like to stop at Cuppa Java. It's in the heart of Bryn Mawr and has my favorite attributes in a coffee shop: -interesting personality -homemade food -good ice tea -Sweet & Low -cleanliness I've had their sandwiches, which aren't fancy but a good quality, substantial, homemade and consistently good. Yesterday I had a Chicken Caesar Wrap after a long day and it was quite good. Plus it comes with some carrot sticks, not gross chips like most places. I like that. The staff there is always friendly, attentive and the kind of people you might like to have a conversation with. They are not stiff and standoffish. Which explains why, everytime I go there, a wide variety of people are hanging out there, seemingly at perfect ease, in the cuteness that is Bryn Mawr. I can't help but believe that Cuppa Java is one of the reasons Bryn Mawr is such a strong neighborhood. I used to work down the street from Cuppa, and since moving I definitely miss it! Love the rueben, the cubano, their standard grilled cheese, the breakfast bagel... really most everything. Everything is super reasonably priced. I always thought of Cuppa Java like a café with real restaurant food at café prices. A lot of places would sell pre-made sandwiches at the price that Cuppa sells made-for-you sandwiches. And the cake. Don't miss the cake. My friend lives on the block diagonal to Cuppa Java but it took a few times in the neighborhood and a blazingly hot afternoon to prompt a stop for an iced coffee while help move some things at the house. The place was pretty cool; a guy and a lady behind the counter were nice, it was clean, the decor is friendly, seemed all-around comfortable to those at tables. People were conversing, reading, and even watching a tv set in the corner. They also have a sidewalk patio (sort of hard to distinguish in the photo) that runs up each sidewalk. I got a turkey sandwich (mayo swapped out for butter) also, on recommendation from my friend who is a regular to Cuppa's menu. I had my food to go. I'll definitely return. read more

The coffee is fantastic, the people that work there are always incredibly nice, the prices are extremely reasonable and the atmosphere is just calming. It is hands down one of my favorite places to go read. The food is also quite good. They make one of my favorite BLTs in town. There is nothing really special about it, but it is consistently delicious. My only qualms about the menu is that I wish there were more breakfast type options. There is an egg and bagel sandwich, but that is about it. This is a great location to meet up with a friend, go alone to read/use your laptop or even bring your kids. We had vegetable beef soup, tomato soup, half a tuna fish sandwish and half a chicken curry sandwich along with coffee. Bill was $ 13. The soups were yyummy (it is a rainy day, so soup was a must). They had lots of flavor. The chicken curry sandwich was right on target. I love chicken curry but it is difficult to find. Met the owners. Cuppa is a pretty descent coffee shop to have around. I live in the neighborhood and come here often for the convenience. What they do well is provide a fantastic community vibe and gathering space. The crew her is great and always friendly. I'd love to see an increased focus on quality of ingredients and food as well as coffee. A great loose leaf tea selection would be just fantasculous as well. If you a connoisseur of coffee or food, you're not going to be impressed. I have worked 1 mile away from Cuppa Java for the last year and this place is by far one of my favorite spots to eat and/or have coffee. Sure sometimes during the lunch rush it gets busy and there is a slight wait for your sandwich. But they make it how you want it and it tastes amazing every time. I either get the Grilled Ham & Cheese (add jalapenos, onions, bacon and avocado) or the BLT (add ham, jalapenos, onions, bacon and avocado) ... I accompanied it with Mount Oko coffee - the feature of the day. The crew was humming, working fast without seeming hurried. My sandwich was brought to my table shortly after I sat down with my self- prepared mug of java. Mugs in house are not only environmentally friendly, they add to the comfort of sitting with a cuppa to start the morning. Sandwich and coffee totaled $7. Plenty of seating inside and out. Mostly 2 seat tables, but a few larger and a couple of cushy chairs, if that is what you prefer. I didn't realize they had such an extensive menu (for a coffee shop), and read a couple reviews saying the BLT rocked so I'll have to go back. My only suggestion for the staff is not to recommend a wine if you don't know anything about wine. I didn't ask for a recommendation, ordered a full bodied zinfandel, and they kept trying to talk me into Pinot Noir for some reason. Wow, I sound like a wine snob--about the closest I get to being a wine connoisseur is wanting more than $2 buck chuck, but never spending more than $15 (for a bottle)! read more

I stopped in for lunch today. The young guy behind the counter is in the wrong job as his customer service is lacking. I order a cup of chicken wild rice soup and a BLT. My food took a bit to come out, and alas when it arrives, my soup was warm at best and my BLT was a grilled cheese. Food tasted good, but a BLT is entirely different than a grilled cheese. In case staff or management see this I was number 21 at around 12:40pm 6/12/19. I had debated the whole ride there on BLT or Pizza from across the street. I made a poor decision. read more
