Our experience with Cupertino Driving School was absolutely outstanding from start to finish. Scheduling lessons was incredibly easy and flexible, thanks to Claudia who does a stellar job in managing all appointments. What truly set them apart was their unwavering professionalism and punctuality. Every lesson started on time and best part is they don't ask for upfront payment of classes unlike most driving schools. You pay as you go. They also went ABOVE AND BEYOND by scheduling the driving test for my child even when there were no available appointments on DMV website for the entire month. Then this crazy driver calls me at my office hour for his car registration copy even though I said I will had it to him over once we are free from work schedule , files a false report to harass just coz he needed his paper and harassed me . I took about 4-5 driving lessons for local streets over the summer and I had a really great experience with Mr. Zhang! He was friendly and was quick to give me tips/feedback to help me be the safest driver possible. As someone who had a HUGE fear of driving, I felt comfortable majority of the time. I paid the lesson fees in cash each time. Face masks are required and car windows are lowered to keep an airflow due to COVID-19. Very easy to schedule appointments by email and they were pretty responsive. I passed my behind the wheel after lots of practice, and I know you will too! The staff at Cupertino Driving School are responsive, respectful, punctual and outstanding overall. My son's permit was about to expire and we were thinking he would have to start the permit process all over again. Luckily, he had a lesson with John Shin the week before the expiration date and John gave him useful tips, built up his driving confidence and encouraged him to take the test before it expired. Luckily, he was able to get an appointment within a few days and although it wasn't at the same city that my son practiced, he passed the driving test on his first try just in the nick of time! Cupertino Driving School deserved 5 stars rating based on my experience. I moved from a different country with 2 decades of driving experience but there is no regret that I took their help to brush up on my driving skills wrt CA roads and traffic conditions. I also took their car during the behind-the-wheel test. I especially thank John Shin. He was my 2 hours driving lesson instructor and explained to me every situation, traffic lights/ conditions, etc in that 2 hours. Great driving school, especially my instructor, Mr. Chang. I booked Mr. Chang for a driving lesson and a drive to the DMV to take my test. During the lesson, he came early and we drove around from San Jose to Cupertino. During the lesson, he provided feedback about every turn, lane change, etc. In addition, he had neatly drawn diagrams regarding different types of left turns and how to approach them appropriately. I did not hesitate to ask any questions. He provided good criticism without being rude or condescending. I'm not the type of person to spark a conversation but he was extremely nice that is was hard not to. Prior to my driving test, he came early again and had me drive around the DMV area to get familiar with the general route. Without him, I wouldn't have been able to pass the first time. I can vouch for Mr. Chang, he is a great instructor and very kind guy. read more

Pros: * Lowest price I could find. * Unlike other comments, my instructor spoke English well, and I never had a problem understanding him. * Gave me a few good tips that helped during my test. Cons: * Took me to two different grocery stores so that he could get groceries. I believe I spent about 30 min total of my time just waiting for him in the car. It was a hot day too, and since I thought that he would be out right away, I waited for him in the car for a while, until I got too hot and had to get out. Also spent a lot of time on the phone, when he should've been focused on my driving. * When he did instruct me, it didn't seem like he was completely focused or cared that much about how I was doing. Overall, you get what you pay for. However, regardless what you pay, I think that customer service should always be a priority and I was surprised by how unprofessional they came off during my lesson. read more

I had 3 lessons I needed to take in order to get my drivers license. 1st lesson : The instructor made me drive him to the grocery store so he could spend 30 min. in the store while I sat in the car. From then i took him to his house so he could unload the grocery's, there I waited another 30 min. Once that was done I had to drive to pick his niece up from school and take her to her house. Then I drove to pick up his daughter and take her to her house, which I was just atwatching him unload grocery's. then I was told to drive home because my lesson was over. I learned nothing that day and I felt extremely nervous and scared driving other kids when I didn't even feel comfortable behind the wheel of a car yet. 2nd lesson: Typical lesson, however the guy (different instructor) had control of the brake and gas from the passenger side and thought it would be funny to play with the gas pedal while I was driving up in the Saratoga Hills. 3rd lesson: I waited and waited for 1 hour for my instructor to come when I finally called the office. She said she would call him. About 20 min. later I get a call from my instructor saying he is in East San Jose and forgot my appointment so I had to make another one. In addition, I had my own car (a stick shift) that I felt I needed more practice with, so I asked my instructors if they had a manual transmission car I could drive instead of an automatic. They responded with "Our instructors don't know how to drive manual transmission cars." I'm sorry but if you are teaching people the rules of the road, how to handle and drive a car, shouldn't you at least know how to drive a stick-shift? Overall I would never recommend this place. read more

I called to fix an appointment for a 2 hour training, the lady who answered the phone took all my details and said that my instructor would be coming the next day at 3:30 but guess what, no one showed up. I waited half an hour outside for the lady and nobody came so I call them up and the same lady who took my details says oops I forgot put in your information and fix your appointment. I planned everything for the day according to this I had to cancel plans for this. I continue to speak with her and she hangs up in the middle of our conversation, I tried calling back several times and no one answered. She didn't even bother to apologize. I had 2 instructors here: Alan (drives a kind of old Toyota Camry) & Jason (drives a fairly new red Toyota Prius) Both have completely different instructing styles. Jason is a very quiet and calm instructor that will correct you of any severe mistakes. Calm is exactly what you need when you're out on the road for 2 hours. Alan is a little bit different. He's much more direct and keeps a steady stream of chatter as you're driving. I remember I was put-off by his direct personality and his slightly dramatic responses to my driving mistakes (i.e. holding onto the steering wheel for a good 5 minutes and braking when he though I wasn't braking but I really was). I told my parents "I don't want Alan again!" after my lesson with him. Looking back, I preferred Alan because he corrected me on ALL my mistakes & gave me some important tips that still stick with me today. He is definitely that guy that makes you park and go to the supermarket but trust me, it's worth it! His tips are golden. Their customer service is not bad, you just have to be patient. They do have different phone numbers for different times (which gets confusing) but scheduling a lesson with them is easy peasy and their lessons are pretty cheap! Don't expect a driving instructor that will hold your hand and tell you you're an amazing driver because teaching someone how to drive is not only risky but frustrating as well! It's a stressful situation for both student and teacher. In terms of scheduling appointments with the DMV, they are top notch! They have a lot of students and will accomodate you if you are in a time crunch. Be patient and happy driving! read more

I get my driver's license in two weeks(7 lessons), and I would like to share my experience with people. My instructor is super professional and is also a very nice person. He has always been prompt(arrives at our community 5-10 mins in advance of the appointment), patient (explains driving techniques with graphs and excellent explanation), and stays calm when I made mistakes. He has quite accurate understanding and control of the car, and is able to adjust our progress according to my status. I felt very comfortable during the training and made progress quickly. In the very beginning I was driving in safe, quiet resident area, later on we will practice on urban road, express way and at last on freeway for a couple of times. The instructor has taken me to the test routes several times so that I could do a mock test. He also help me with scheduling, so there's nothing that I need to worry about. I really enjoyed my driving lessons and passed the test smoothly. I will definitely recommend this driving school and my instructor to new learners~! read more

I don't know the instructors that Amy T., the previous reviewer had but I had an absolute five-star experience with AAA Driving School. They charge less than most other driving schools and my instructor Rui, a super friendly Chinese guy (speaking excellent English b.t.w.) has been overall absolutely awesome. He has done everything he can to coach me towards getting a license as soon as humanly possible. I took two 2-hour sessions with Rui. He was excellent in explaining the Californian traffic rules to me which are quite different from what I'm used to in the Netherlands. After the two sessions I felt very confident driving in the US. I failed my first test because I encountered a very weird situation to which I reacted wrongly. Because it was very important for me to be able to drive a car as soon as possible (my wife is pregnant at the moment of writing and has serious trouble using public transport at this point) Rui took the time to tinker with the DMV appointments online to get me a second driving test only 2 days after I failed for the first time. This second time I passed with no problem at all and I'm now a confident driver thanks to Rui's excellent coaching and teaching. I can highly recommend AAA Driving School to anyone, especially to other foreigners like myself. I cannot comment on the other instructors that work for AAA Driving School but I CAN tell you that if you book them and make sure to ask for Rui as your instructor you'll have the best driving education possible. Currently doing my 6 hour teen session with Alan. I'm honestly really happy that I learnt how to drive from him. He's kind of intimidating and "scary" at first because his reactions can be a little bit dramatic but the man knows how to teach. I was able to schedule an appointment very quickly with the front office staff and got the appointment time I needed every time. Alan was on time and if he wasn't he would finish the lesson later. The prices are extremely affordable compared to other driving schools, I think this one was the cheapest in the area. Overall, I would recommend this school to anyone who is willing to learn. I had the worst experience with one of the Instructor(li xue) from this school. The instructor was so rude and I couldn't even understand his English, had the WORST COMMUNICATION EVER. He did not teach me how I should adjust my mirrors or what should be visible in the mirrors for someone who is driving or sitting behind the wheels for first time. He was so impatient and called me names when I did a mistake. The very job of the Instructor is to be patient with new learners. I was ofcourse anxious and he wasn't of any help in making it easy Infact he made it worse. He also went on to make personal comments for which I had to tell him it was none of his business. I wasted my money and time and he made me less confident about learning to drive. He didn't teach me any basics and just expected me to be perfect the first time. If I was i wouldn't take classes. Within 4 hours (2 lessons) you will get familiar with Road Test procedures and Test Route around the DMV area you are going to take the test." My husband recently immigrated to the United States. He knows how to drive, but just wanted some guidance on passing the Behind-the-Wheel test in California. This is what he said when he called to schedule his driving lesson. However, the instructor arrived expecting someone who had never driven a car. My husband again explained his situation and what he wanted. But the instructor just had him drive around for awhile then brought him back home. He didn't critique his driving in any way or give him any tips. They did NOT do any U-turns, 3 point turns or parking. They did go on the highway, which is not part of the DMV test. The lesson ended after 1 and 1/2 hours, even though we paid $75 for 2 hours. When we called the driving school to complain, they were very rude. They said that we did not request the correct service--but we were very clear about what we wanted. Horrible experience. They assigned me an instructor with thick accent and he speaks really fast with that accent. I could barely understand what he is trying to say. What makes it even worse is that he mixed up using mandarin and English after I told him I can speak mandarin. I had more trouble interpreting his sentence this way. What a disaster!
