I was dreading the additional cost of driver training for my son, but Economic Driving's rate was a screaming deal! We got a discount for the online course through a digital flyer posted by our school district (if only my auto insurance offered similar discounts)! The course was informative, interesting, and well laid out. My son was able to navigate and complete the process totally on his own. He only missed one on the final practice test and feels well prepared and ready to take the DMV permit exam. The icing on the cake, though, was the great customer service we received when we found ourselves in a bind and the local manager went above and beyond to assist us in dealing with a time sensitive issue. This company is truly "economic" as it pertains to cost, but the program and service are definitely First Rate! read more

Both of my teenagers completed their driver education requirements through ECONOMIC DRIVING SCHOOL. ECONOMIC DRIVING SCHOOL has been in the business for 47 years. They're easy to deal with, experienced, thorough, and quite adept at preparing young drivers for their license. My teenagers on-the-road driving instructors were superb. They were experienced, patient, and insightful. Both of my teenagers felt prepared for the written test and the actual driving test at the DMV office. Overall, I highly recommend. Highly recommend Economic Driving! We had both our children go through Economic Driving and had good experiences. It is an affordable option, completely online, able to go at your own pace, practice tests, etc. We found Economic Driving through our high school, Valley Christian HS - who recommended the company. It's a local business that is extremely responsive. Don personally helped us when we had a mail issue, going above and beyond. He not only responded quickly, but helped us out greatly. We are extremely thankful and have and will continue to recommend this company! read more

This review is only for behind the wheel training with Rod Carlson. This is my second time having Rod as the behind the wheel instructor for kid #2. I'm pretty sure this place is not the lowest cost and the price definitely went up in the last year or two, but even if I had to pay more, I would just to have Rod as the instructor. Like others have said, he is super patient and he is very kind. He tells you what to expect and what are the next steps. My first kid passed his DMV behind the wheel test the first time around and I'm hoping the same for the second. It's pretty scary to have your kid drive and I feel so rest assured my kids are in good hands with Rod. Highly recommend Rod as the behind the wheel instructor. read more

I signed up my teen to take the 30 Hours of Driver's Ed online last year. My teen kept on forgetting his password. I called the customer service and was able to get a response very quickly. Unfortunately, the teen was not able to finish his 30 hours online before the school year ended. I thought I would have to pay for the course again. I called to find out information about how to re-enroll. The tech representative told me that he can continue taking the course and complete it online. It's not a problem that it's been an entire year since he started the course. I highly recommend Economic Driving School to any parent interested in getting their teen to complete their driver's ed online. The content covered is important and will help my teen to pass the permit exam. I hope he can pass the first time as I've heard that it's not an easy exam. If he fails the first time, he will have to take it again and hopefully will pass without any further issues. I hope. In addition, the customer service I have received is super fast, friendly, and efficient! Sign up your teenagers for Economic Driving School!!! read more

My 15.5 year old daughter did three 2 hour sessions with Chance. They pick up and drop off at different locations as needed. Her schedule was very challenging and pick up / drop off vatried as well. Her instructor was good and she felt comfortable. Female teachers were booked out at least 3 weeks. I tracked my child with life360, so I knew were she was, which made me feel safe and comfortable. read more

Rod Carlson was my boys driver's training instructor. He did such a great job getting the first one prepared for the DMV driving test. We opted to use him for the second one as well. He is super patient and has the right personality to be someone that would be teaching teenagers to drive. We are so grateful for the recommendations from friends that suggested we use economic driving school for our driver's training needs. read more

Shout out to Ravi who taught my daughter and her friend during COVID times. He was punctual, clear and very detailed about his lessons. He send emails about what he was teaching every class. He was very clear in his expectations. The prize great for the effort and time. Both girls passed their driving test and are successful drivers now. 2020 has been a tough year for most, but that shouldn't stop motivated teens interested in building their driving skills! This fall my 2nd teen completed her driving hours with Ravi & it was another great experience, this time with the added protocols of masks in car. Not only does Ravi know his way around the streets in our local area, but his calm demeanor helps your teen gain the confidence they need to prep mate for their actual test. We have a couple more months to go before my daughter can take the driving test, but expect her to pass with no problem. Thanks Ravi & team for making a crazy time seem more normal, by continuing to teach young drivers during COVID times. read more

Economic Driving School - strongly recommended!! - Driving Schools Near Me - San Jose, California

(late review!)....Ravi is a GREAT and PATIENT behind-the-wheel instructor! My 17 yr old son said he was good at instructing while being very patient the entire time. He felt comfortable, learned all the basic driving skills like driving down the street, turning, lights, stopping, parking, etc including very helpful tips, and by day 3 was driving on the freeway! Ravi's lessons are three 2-hour long sessions, in his car. He sends a descriptive outline of his instruction, rules, payment including what 'set of dates' he has a available as he gets booked up. He's very strict with the sessions: Lesson 1 and Lesson 2 are taken over 2 consecutive days (i.e. Lesson 1 on Mon at 12:30pm and Lesson 2 Tues at 12:30pm). Lesson 3 was a few days later. He prefers to have the student get it all completed within a small window so they can retain what they just learned. At the end he said my son did well and to at least keep driving 15+ mins daily. Ravi also offers a PRE Behind-The-Wheel Drive Test to help make sure the student is ready before the actual DMV drive test. read more

Great experience!! My son took the online driver's test and used the practice tests before his written. He took his test today and passed on the first try. Will definitely be recommending this school to others I know. read more

Ravi came highly recommended by a fellow parent that has used him for behind the wheel training for two teenagers. I reached out to Ravi directly and he immediately followed up with a very detailed email. I felt that the process, rules, and practice were all highly organized and very clear. My teen came home excited after her first session saying Ravi was a great teacher, he was calm and explained things really well. She said he definitely knows how to teach something so you understand and can then practice the skill several times until you are comfortable and ready to move to the next lesson. After her third lesson she returned home confident and with praise from Ravi that she was driving great and ready for her test. I highly recommend Ravi and Economic Driving School for your behind the wheel hours! read more

My 16 year old daughter's instructor was Ravi. When I initially sent an email inquiring about the services I received a response within a reasonable amount of time. Ravi was my daughter's instructor and he was very detailed in his expectations and how the lesson plan would go. My daughter is very shy, but she told me that she felt comfortable with Ravi and he was very patient and calm with her. Ravi helped my daughter gain the confidence that she needed to begin driving. Ravi was punctual and after each lesson would give me a summary of what was learned and how my daughter did. If you are looking to get your child or self lessons, I would definitely recommend Ravi! read more

Ravi from the beginning was absolutely amazing. He responded to my initial inquiry almost immediately, gave me options of times he was available and within 15 minutes my daughter was booked and ready to go. His instructions in his email are thorough. He showed up on time and was patient. When my daughter would come home she would tell us how great he was and gave we felt gave her enough confidence and training to have a successful test. We would recommend Ravi to anyone!! read more

I had Ravi Manrao as my instructor, and he was the worst driving teacher ever. He was so impatient and rude, and he didn't even teach anything properly. He would just explain some random movements with his hands and it was super hard to understand, then he would yell at his students for getting it wrong. Parents shouldn't send their kids with Ravi blindly by looking at the previous reviews, and they should find a different instructor. I do not recommend Ravi for anyone, and all my friends say the same. I don't know why he has so many good reviews. read more

Everyone else has already given details of Ravi's excellent skills at teaching so I won't repeat. Just wanted to say my 16 year old was taught by Ravi and passed the first time he took his driving test. My son said he was straightforward and to the point and that made it easy to follow his instructions and drive with confidence. Hoping Ravi will still be teaching when my younger son needs driving lessons. Couldn't recommend him more. read more

Our child just completed behind the wheel training with Ravi Manrao. He is very detailed upon sign up, and you have to confirm your 3 dates in advance. My child commented that Ravi was knowledgeable, patient and supportive. He enjoyed his experience under his instruction and is very comfortable behind the wheel when we take him out to practice. Would highly recommend EDS (online driver's Ed) and Ravi (for behind the wheel training). read more

I should've written this review like 2 years ago since that's when I used their services. But I was recommending my driving instructor to a friend today - and that's when I realized maybe I should write review for the amazing driving instruction I received here. My instructor was Ravi Manrao. Scheduling with him was an efficient process. He responds to emails quickly. Make sure you schedule in advance since he is a busy man. I took 3 sessions with him. I did not need to learn how to drive. I already had a driver's license in another country and had been driving there - so I didn't need to learn from scratch. I also had a permit here and had been driving on that permit for a few months here. The reason I wanted some instruction was that I wanted to pass my behind-the-wheels test at the first shot. Sometimes, even if you are a decent driver, you can fail the test since they look for very specific behaviors and check-boxes when they evaluate you during your behind the wheels test. I explained this to Ravi - and he understood that I wasn't someone who needed to be "taught" how to drive. I needed to know what NOT to do during the driving test - and what the best practices were so that I don't make unconscious errors. I honestly think his instruction was great. I feel that he taught me better ways to do certain things. I think that his pointers helped me become a more efficient driver. And of course, I passed the behind-the-wheels test at the first shot. I'd highly recommend Ravi Manrao as a driving instructor. He's courteous and calm and a very good teacher. read more

I was looking for an easy way to get my daughter training for her permit without having to sign her up for an onsite class. The signup process was super easy, and my daughter could log in right away and get started. She took about two weeks to go through the 22 modules, and learned a ton. She started asking me questions like if I ever hydroplaned (yes), etc. so I know she was engaged in the material. What I thought was great was that if she skimmed the material, the quizzes would catch that, and send her back to studying. I didn't want it to be too easy. There are some spelling and grammatical issues, but there aren't that many and it didn't distract her from her studies. I called the owner with a question that I had, and he answered and was very polite and helpful. This is a great and affordable way to get your kid ready for their permit. read more

We asked Ravi (Manrao) to be our son's instructor. He was very clear about the expectations of both the parents and student. My son reports that Ravi was very good at correcting him during instruction in a positive and affirmative way, making him feel at ease behind the wheel. Ravi also shared with me the expectations for each driving session and provided a brief summary of how my son did, what he needed to work on before the next lesson. Between the online course work and driver's instruction with Ravi, our son is a well-prepared and very safe driver. I highly recommend Ravi and EDS. Both are reasonably priced and Ravi is very flexible when scheduling driving time. read more

My two daughters have had a great experience learning how to drive with Ravi Manrao.

My son took the required drivers education course through Economic Driving School, and while he complained about the material ("It's so repetitive! It's so boring!" :-), he eventually completed the work and was awarded his certificate. From the screens I saw, it's about as exciting as when I had to study the driver's handbook decades ago. I don't think there's any way to make the content that much more exciting. I did want to note that Don offered excellent customer service when we needed to expedite getting that certificate (because my son waited so long to complete the course.) I was very happy to be find out that we were patronizing a local San Jose business. Thanks again Don! read more
