It was a great experience, my husband had a lot of opportunity to fly the Cessna 172 G1000. I recommend extending the flight to one hour which allowed time to fly over the beautiful lakes. Our instructor, Travis Graham was amazing. I highly recommend the introductory experience for anyone interested in flying. My husband has done computer simulations for a long time and this is what he needed to commit to taking flight lessons.

I ended up working with them to get the rating done. Jonathan, the head of the flight school, was the CFI I'd be working with. I'm so glad I did. He was able to teach to my learning style and we worked really well together. We met early and stayed late to get me ready for the check-ride. Coming from northern California, I booked out a week to accomplish the task. Unfortunately, the DA-42 Twin Star broke. A broken fuel injector in one of the engines made it impossible to train in the limited time frame. I had to leave and come back. On my second trip back, the night before the check-ride, I got news of a friends passing in an aviation incident. Thanks to Jonathan's prep, the following day, I was able to pass the oral portion of the check-ride with flying colors and discontinued on the flying portion. I re-booked for a return visit. Upon coming out, the aircraft had an other issue during one of our flights. Sawyer's in house mechanics both times went above and beyond to get the aircraft back in service but the parts needed to be special ordered from Europe. Being in aviation and an aircraft owner, things like this just happen no matter how well an aircraft is maintained. Throughout this process, I was able to witness a side of aviation that most don't get to see. Sawyer's maintenance team rocks and worked their butt off to make sure things are tip top. Even though I wasn't able to finish my multi-engine commercial add on at Sawyer, they did take care of me. Jonathan built a foundation for me to finish a few months later back in northern California and I earned my ratings. I wouldn't hesitate recommending Sawyer Flight academy because not only did they treat me well, they training I received was top notch.

As an aviation journalist and a commercial pilot, I've been to scores of FBOs all across the…read morecountry. From luxury resorts to ho-hum destinations, the FBO makes a huge difference in a pilot's (and their passengers') experience. There are crappy ones, good ones, and- much more rarely- great ones. Lux Air is a great one. It's not the building. Lux is really nice, but it's no Puerto Vallarta or San Diego or Montana. But the building does NOT make the FBO. Atlantic, for example, has a really big and impressive FBO in Utah and a few other places, but their customer service is crap. If you waltz up to an Atlantic (or a Millionaire, or an ACI, or...) in a Cessna 150, you'll witness that FBO's "true colors." They'll treat you like a red-headed stepchild with a lisp. And I'll just say that most FBOs only care about jets with $3000 ramp fees and 2000 gallon fuel Orders. Not so with Lux. Even pulling up, literally, in a Cessna 150, they sent out a ramper, marshalled us in, carried our bags, brought a golf cart, got us a loaner car, offered us water, answered questions, took a fuel order, waited for us patiently, and even asked us about our trip and home base, all without a hint of irony. I've rarely encountered more helpful people. And they were smiling and enthusiastic, and kind. They offered us drinks and food and directions and recommendations and a million other things. I was blown away. The most incredible part: they DIDN'T charge us a ramp or an overnight fee. Even with a paltry 7-gallon fill up! We're we in the Twilight Zone? Also, their 100 LL fuel price did not come with a tube of Vaseline and the business card of a sex-assault counselor (the way Palm Springs or Burbank should). It was only .50 cents more than the cheapest fuel at any nearby airport. They had snacks and crew cars and flight planning rooms and sleep couches and everything the rip-off people have. But with courteous, kind, cheerful, efficient service. It's the PEOPLE that make an FBO, and these folks- shout out to Hunter and the other front desk staff- really stand out. I can't say enough about Lux Air. I'd stop into Goodyear JUST to experience their service. What a great FBO. Thank you for showing others how it's done.

I noticed one of the volunteers had a Calvary patch on like my Dad had. They invited my Dad to take a ride on one of their helicopters. They had some documents for us to sign. Around 9am they had us all meet under a little tent to go over all the rules. They will have you sit in your helicopter configuration so be sure you know if you want a view, less wind etc. We sat on the sides without doors. You will need a coat. Although it was warm it was pretty windy and cold on the flight. They will have a place for you to place your hats. I actually had my phone attached to a rope so I could take some photos. The ride itself was 20 minutes and it went by so fast! Everyone was so kind and very cool. I got extremely emotional on the ride thinking about all the rescue missions the helicopter had been on. Highly recommend it for everyone!
