I found Cunha's Custom Painting last year on Yelp as I was looking for painters, and what a gem of a company it is! They weren't the cheapest bid I had, but you definitely get what you pay for: excellent work, clear and consistent communication, and friendly, genuine, and courteous staff. Over the past six months, they've come twice, once to paint most of my interior, and again six months later to paint my exterior. They had preferred subcontractors that did excellent work (saving me from having to screen additional contractors), and explained any additional charges above the estimate very clearly. I had a problem with a ceiling crack that ended up being much more significant than I had originally anticipated, but fixing it right increased my peace of mind. I also had some fascia damage that I'm having fixed, and knowing the contractors have worked well together before just makes the entire process easier. I was also interested in staying in the house while interior painting was happening, and Cunha's was super flexible with negotiating how my pets and I could move from room to room without any significant challenges. They made a stressful situation incredibly easy. I've had longtime homeowners tell me that you can tell the quality of the painters by how they prep, and you can't get any better than Cunha's. I have two walls and a ceiling that I couldn't paint myself so I decided to hire. Danny arrived at my place to access the work needed and provided me with a written estimate via email. We chose Cunhas painting as he was more competitively priced than the other 2 we met with. But more importantly Danny, the owner was such a pleasure to meet- very genuine vibe about him- that it was just one of the easier choices we made during our remodeling house job. I cannot recommend Cunha's Custom Painting enough. I called, they had Steve come by to do a quote the next day, and I explained what I was hoping to do. Then, a bit to my surprise, I learned that it would be Steve and his crew who would actually be doing the job! More often than not, it seems like the person who you spend time explaining things to is not part of the team who does the job and so things can get lost easily. So, like I said, was happy when this was not the case here and Steve explained that, while uncommon in the industry, it was standard at Cunha's to have the person doing the quote actually do the work as well. I hate to break his running streak of "5 stars," but I was extremely disappointed with him consistently being a no-show. After three times and a few conversations later, I ultimately gave up. I thought it was because my job was "too small." However, I expanded the scope of work - and he still did not show up. He does seem pleasant enough and maybe well-intentioned, but I wouldn't trust him again if the stakes were high. It turned out that I was working from home and the job was not a critical one, so I wasn't fit to be tied. I was also puzzled why he just couldn't say he was simply to tied up and can't make it after all. I could have worked with the truth and respected him a lot more. But I certainly wouldn't take a chance on him again. As the poet Maya Angelou once said: "when someone shows you who are they are, believe them." Cunha's Painting repainted our house and detached garage recently, and we were very happy with their work. They spent most of the first and second days on prep alone, power-washing our house and being attentive to every little cranny tucked under our exposed eaves and rafter tails, carefully stripping and sanding the door and window trims, thresholds, and other wood accents on our house. Our plants were covered in protective sheets and the adjacent grade along our foundations was carefully trenched away from the stucco walls, and the bottom of the walls cleaned off, to allow the new paint to extend below the finished grade. The priming and painting process itself was methodical, patient, careful and exceptionally detailed. The crew was professional, and the foreman was friendly to us and our kids and patient with our questions. I've hired Cunha Bros. for many, many years. They do a great job, work around the weather and my schedule, and are polite, professional, and friendly guys. They sand, stain, and varnish my garage and front doors every couple of years, and the results are terrific. Inside, they've stripped wallpaper, fixed cracks, and painted. They knew someone to texture the walls after wallpaper was removed, and also had a new downspout fabricated at a sheet metal shop for us. They painted the entire exterior and recommended scaffolding due to our steep roof- handled hiring the scaffolding company and reduced their painting price since the scaffolding made their job safer and faster.
