The food was good - we enjoyed the truffle fries to start followed by the hot honey pizza & prosciutto pizza. The service was quick & very friendly, even when a party was being hosted at the restaurant. The seating is very limited as is parking in the area, so I recommend making a reservation in advance and arriving a little early to find parking.

I paid a lunch visit for the first time for the taste of burlington. The service was outstanding! I was super pleased with how genuine the service was. There was only the one guy and the cook it seemed, but he ran the place nicely and we never felt neglected. They have a lot of beers so I wish there were more options for the beer flight. I loved the atmosphere and decor. The food was ok, pretty good. I'd like to try some other things next time. Two reasons I am not 100 sure about this place are the no parking and location. There's a paid lot behind and it's located next to a pub (extremely close, especially their patios) that looks like it's for high school or college kids, which I see being a bother when the weather gets nicer.

Culccino Bar + Kitchen is the new restaurant that took over from Eatalia. The building is pretty much the same roundhouse with some new lighting and furniture. I think this place could deserve 4 starts but it has to take care of a few things first. Culaccino is an Italian word that essentially means "the end of a salami", "loaf of bread etc.," the "dregs in a glass", and "the mark left on a surface by a wet glass". However this place is essentially a craft beer bar with a few tapas. The design of the interior is somewhat akin to a German beer hall however when empty, it seems to lack the laughter required to liven such a place. We sat on the large patio which is bordered by the restaurant on one side and Brant Street on the other. There are a couple of tables that are near a large tree. That should give the patio an "al fresco" feel however the traffic on Brant Street, which is a few feet from the front tables, tales away from that experience. I would highly recommend a row of plants to block off the street from the patio. The food menu is small and "tapas" like and the beer menu is extensive. They must have over a hundred craft beers from all over the world. If you're into trying a variety of small brewer beers, this place is great. I personally don't know how they could sell all of those beers. I think 50 or so would be enough. The food menu includes a few salads, "bowls and boards" and some pizzas. We had a pizza with the garlic frites. The pizza was ok. It seems a bit "manufactured" with a pre-made dough. It didn't taste much different than frozen pizza. The Frites with the garlic aioli were really good! The service was friendly and prompt and the overall atmosphere is OK. I still have to get used to the building which looks like it was a travel information centre or a religious hall sometime in the past. The patio could be great and I believe the inside would have a great ambiance when it's filled with people. This place could easily be 4 stars.

Unprofessional and Discriminatory Behavior by Bar Staff…read more In Canada, you have the right to be free from discrimination in public places, including restaurants. I believe that our city has the potential to be a welcoming and inclusive place for all. I recently visited The Dickens and had a very disappointing experience, and I believe it is important to address this matter to ensure it does not happen to others. During my visit, I observed the bar staff member, taking multiple shots of alcohol while on duty. This unprofessional behavior was concerning enough, but what made the situation worse was the discriminatory treatment I received. Despite my attempts to order, I was repeatedly ignored by the staff members, while other patrons were served promptly. I believe the lack of service I received was due to discrimination, which is completely unacceptable. I got a dirty look from one of the female staff members, a short blond, while having a discussion, huddled with the other bar staff members. That's when the dark haired female staff member walked up to me and said they are denying me of service, with no explanation. This left me feeling unwelcomed, hurt, and discriminated against. To address the issue, I called the restaurant to speak to the manager. Unfortunately, I was met with rudeness and was unable to properly discuss my concerns. When I asked for the managers email, I was speedily told and then abruptly hung up on. Such behavior reflects poorly on the establishment and raises serious concerns about its commitment to treating all customers fairly and respectfully. I expect The Dickens takes this feedback seriously and implements necessary changes and addresses these issues to ensure a professional, welcoming and inclusive environment for all customers. I hope that this incident does not reflect the values of your establishment. Racism is subtle these days, existing in locations where it is difficult to see because it is viewed as a social taboo. I found it at the restaurant, but I'm not sure where else it may be. I didn't realize that racism still exists in some places. Until I saw it in front of my eyes. Black consumers had to wait longer than white customers and were refused service.

Upon entering the establishment shortly after 12am, I had to excuse myself to get past two patrons loitering on the front door steps inhibiting the entrance to get in. "Excuse me I said ", the one gentleman stepped aside saying sorry, no worries I replied to him. Apparently when I opened the door to enter my backpack brushed the other gentleman in the chest. Didn't actually realize until I was through the entrance, looked back as he was clearly overreacting to the incidental contact upon myself entering. I entered the restaurant, dropped my knapsack and went back to apologize to the gentleman. Words were specifically, " sorry my backpack bumped you went i entered, i think you kind of overreacted. " The other gentleman who actually moved when i excused myself passing them, got all indignant, belligerent, and agitated followed me into the restaurant looking for a confrontation. I actually unaware of this as it was unfolding was caughg off guard as my friends intervened what was going to be a physical altercation. It was actually, said gentleman was physical with my friend who was having my back, continued to be aggressivd. Taunted me, still being aggressive...upon which time the bar staff asked 'ME' to leave... are you kidding me i said, I'm not the person loitering on the front step, blocking patron and then getting aggressive abd starting an altercation. Not at all pleased with how the staff dealt with this. Total bs. I've been attending the Poacher establishment for close to 40 years. They just lost a huge amount of respect in my eyes. I will be sharing this incident with many friends and potential customers. Discouraging supporting this establishment. Not happy one little bit.

Spectacular Canada Day!…read more I came to visit Canada during my 4th of July break and ended up visiting during Canada day. I hit OpenTable and found Sunset Bistro open for reservations, so I quickly made a morning reservation. Thankfully I checked OT because their hours on Yelp showed that they were closed! We both ordered coffee and the amazing Bistro Benedict and were not disappointed. The service was great, our server Jibran kept our coffee filled with coffee and kept bringing milk. The music was a little loud, but being only one of three tables this morning, it is likely more noticeable without the constant sound of other tables talking. I hope to come back again someday, certainly a great experience.

Their food is of elevated quality and the service is good. There are two parts of the restaurant. When you enter, there is a bar area which is just average in appearance. Then you get to the main dining area where it is nicely decorated and plenty of light entering the area. The dining area is befitting of an upscale restaurant. We ordered the following: 1. Mixed Green Salad (small $7.95, large $13.95). 2. Fish & Chips (1 pc $18.95, 2 pc $26.95). 3. Baked Pistachio Salmon ($26.95). 4. Bread Pudding and Ice Cream ($9.99). The Mixed Green Salad has tomatoes,  cucumber, matchstick carrots, sweet peppers, onion, goat cheese candied walnuts, and tossed in a lemon vinaigrette. The salad was good but needed more vinaigrette. We asked for more and they gave us a container with more, which made it perfect. Another thing: we ordered small but they misheard me and gave us large. They were nice enough to change our bill to reflect the price of a small. We ordered two pieces for the Fish & Chips. The fish is haddock, beer battered, with fries, signature tartar sauce, and cole slaw. The haddock was plump, fresh, flakey, and tasty. The batter was crispy but a little too thick. My mother and son didn't have the strength to cut through it. The Baked Pistachio Salmon had a pistachio crusted salmon, roasted sweet potatoes,  warm spinach, seasonal vegetables,  and drizzled maple butter. The glaze had a strange taste. I found out that they put Dijon mustard on the fish to hold the pistachios in place. I usually don't like Dijon mustard it it wasn't overly strong. The mustard should be listed in their menu I think. On the positive side, the salmon was plump, fresh, flakey, and tasty. It appears that this restaurant serves good seafood. I will have to come back to try other items. The Bread Pudding and Ice Cream was smooth and delicious. It is a custard with raisins and rum butter sauce, with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream. The custard was smooth. I hardly tasted the rum which is good because I don't like alcohol. The whipped cream was fresh and light. There are 4 parking spots nearby on Elizabeth St that are free for 20 mins until 18:00. I happened to arrive at 17:59 and was able to park for free for our entire dinner! There is free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible. There are separate male/female washrooms and they are wheelchair accessible. There are paid street parking and parking lots nearby. There are high chairs for little children. Review 2023-071

Fine Dining... casually!…read more When a restaurant delivers the best meals, with top shelf service in an intimate setting, you call that Michelin Star or at least recommended. When you do it effortlessly, you call that Buvette, a new standard in Casual Fine Dining. I had the most wonderful evening at Buvette in Burlington. Yes ... Burlington. Far away but worth the drive. Step in and friendly salutations are offered, along with overheard lively conversations of happy patrons that have been looking forward to a night out. It's been a long few years, and Buvette has spent their time setting up and after only opening 8 months ago, they are shaking up the dining scene. The home reimagined and constructed into Buvette is gorgeous. The passthrough fireplace, with Buvette proudly emblazoned on it, plays the center piece. The sunken sunroom dining area, the intimate bar, stairs to the second floor dining area all pass by warmth of the fire. And of course, opposite to the fireplace is the glass encased small collection of fine wines. Though Buvette is a Winebar, let's not forget their handcrafted cocktails. The owner was cheeky and named them after businesses around the historic Village Square of Downtown Burlington. From carpaccio to cauliflower bites, burrata to pastas, steaks to lobster, the names may be standard, but the food here is elevated to a whole new level. My fav? Obvisouly The Buvette Signature Share Platter! A mouthwatering board featuring steak, lobster, shrimps, lamb, and all the fixings. Whether you are here for vibes and drinks, spend some quality time with family, or a special someone, you really came to the right place. My night was amazing, however, take a gander at the menu before heading out. The place is casual but don't forget, it is Fine Dining. Bring your card made of metal... or someone you know that is!!! Downtown Burlington continues to impress me as a place for upscale living, and I think Buvette has given me another reason to perhaps make a move? Hmmm... CHEERS!!!
