TL;DR/The Short Version: Delicious dumplings made on-site…read more Reasonable prices. Convenient location right downtown. The Long Version: On our most recent trip to Montreal, my husband and I were on a dumplings kick so we decided to try out Impression Dumplings for lunch. We were there on a Monday around noon and we were thrilled to discover they had lunch specials Monday-Friday 11am-2pm. I got the Pork Mongolian Shaomai Combo ($13.99) which came with 10 pork Mongolian Shaomai, 2 vegetable imperial rolls and a drink, but I paid the $1 upgrade for a small hot and sour soup instead of a drink and just drank tap water, lol. So my combo came out to $14.99. My husband got the 10 pieces of Chicken and Mushroom Dumplings ($12.99) and paid an additional $1.50 for the dumplings to be pan-fried instead of steamed. His combo came out to $14.49 and came with a choice of 2 vegetable imperial rolls, cucumber salad or seaweed salad and he got the cucumber salad. My hot and sour soup was filled to the brim and was filled with mushrooms, tofu, egg and bamboo shoots. It was steaming hot, but not that spicy hot and only slightly sour. It was tasty and I feel would please most people who like hot and sour soup. Typical of this soup, the texture is a bit thick and gluey. I don't mind this, but it might put people off if they are trying this type of soup for the first time. My husband hates the texture of hot and sour soup, so I didn't have to share my portion ;) I gave my husband my imperial rolls. He enjoyed them. They were crispy, but a bit greasy. We shared his cucumber salad. My husband really liked the rendition here because it did not contain cilantro like at the other 2 locations we had previously visited on our trip. This version also had a strong ginger flavour to it. I even saw slivers of fresh grated ginger. It wasn't too spicy and had a mild vinegar taste. We both enjoyed it. I really liked my Mongolian Shaomai. They are very similar to soup dumplings or Xiao Long Bao but the dumpling skin was a bit thicker and they were really big. The ground pork inside was good and they were filled with soup. My husband enjoyed them too. The pan-fried chicken and mushroom dumplings were also delicious. They were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Lots of mushrooms with the ground chicken. Service was attentive. The server explained the menu to us and advised that the dumplings are made fresh to order, so there's a bit of a wait. We got our appetizers quickly so we didn't feel the wait was long at all. Our waters we refilled when empty. The place is relatively spacious with lots of tables. Decor is casual. It's in the space that was Hotto Doggu that sold hot dogs with all sorts of different toppings. They kept some of the dog theme; their sign out front retained the same cartoon dog. Although they specialize in dumplings they also sell other dishes like General Tao Chicken (another favourite of ours, so we might have to return to try out that dish). Definitely recommend Impression Dumplings if you like dumplings!! Review #11 (2025)

It's underrated because Sammy Soupe dumplings down the street likely takes most of the customers though I would argue this is a good choice too for those not wanting a crowded atmosphere, more relaxed, and more homey feeling. Their cold eats and traditional appetizers were well made, which is why this place gets a high rating. We ordered the shrimp pork chive dumplings, chive pockets, and the braised soy sauce beef. Even though their top recommended the pork cilantro dumpling, we tried the chive combos. Highly recommend the chive pockets for those wanting something traditional but still good- this one was decently well made. We tried the pork shrimp chive dumplings- good texture, great soup, and the filling was also good but there was an aftertaste that I could not figure out the source. I was not a fan of this aftertaste- it was somewhat sweet and I had to double check that indeed they used chive and not another vegetable because of the odd aftertaste. It didn't bother my husband though, so I'm assuming most folks won't notice it either. Braised beef slices is a good way to try roast beef Chinese style. This one was a good choice too. The staff were pleasant and timely. Would recommend they cut their fingernails though to increase sanitation perception.

Decided to try this place by recommendation from a friend from Toronto, who said this place was as good as the dumpling places in Toronto. I had a baby date with a friend (so two of us had babies) went after the main lunch rush and had plenty of seating for two adults and two babies, even though the place is on the small side. The waitress provided us with high chairs which were clean. The restaurant has a very modern decor that is consistent with the Shanghai theme, perfect for lunch meetings in a place that offers good dumplings and other signature dishes such as Shanghai noodles. Only complaint is that compared to other dumpling places in the city, price is a bit more expensive, but I guess expected in the West Island.

The steamed dumplings are still the ones to get. The pan fried are ok, but the last time I went need an extra minute or two to get all the dumplings brown and crispy. Pork and chive or regular pork are the best in my opinion. The cucumbers are a hit or miss depending on who makes them. The place is small so expect to wait when busy. The dumplings are made to order but only take about 10 minutes or so to arrive and if you go during lunch there is a lunch special. I've been to a lot of dumpling places and even thought the menu has change slightly, I would still recommend this place as an affordable, healthy go to spot for Asian dumplings.
