We were in the mood for casual/fresh seafood. They have only a few tables and they were all being used, so we ordered four dishes to go. I ordered a blackened swordfish sandwich & my husband ordered a seared ahi tuna sandwich, among some other items. Service took awhile - it felt like 30 minutes but I'm not completely sure - so the woman behind the counter threw in a complimentary piece of carrot cake to thank us for waiting. Once we got home, I realized I was given just a piece of fish (no sandwich) along with some presumably homemade tartar sauce. My husband's was the same. At first I was annoyed it wasn't a sandwich, but quickly realized I didn't care because it was the BEST swordfish I have ever eaten! The blackening spice wasn't overpowering and it was incredibly juicy! Absolute perfection! The tartar sauce was delicious too! It was so good. They have three tables inside, two two tops, one four top. There is a fish market, oysters, scallops, clams, prepared foods, merch, sodas and kombucha. FOOD We had a half dozen oysters both types were great, small, salty, great texture, their selection is on point with Leon's, Nicos, and OD. Fish sando was the best we have ever had, lightly fried, and great homemade tarter sauce and pickles. Scallop crudo and benne soup with roe was also great. Service was fast and friendly. PROS/CONS Price was on the higher side with the portions being smaller, but I thought it was fair for local seafood and with Charleston prices. You could taste the freshness in every dish and supporting local fisherman is a big win in my book. Can't wait for them to add more seating, and begin serving alcohol in two months, an outdoor seating area would be great as well. Overall definitely planning on going back! So excited for CudaCo to be open on James Island! Now, instead of having to drive all the way to Folly Beach, Downtown, or Park Circle- we can get fresh seafood right around the corner! We went in recently to check everything out and ended up enjoying a few bites off their menu. The fish sandwich was our favorite and really tasty (a little expensive for just being a fish sandwich, but still good.) It would be great to see them expand on their menu once they are able to add in some more seating inside and outside. The best part (and obviously their main focus) was the seafood market-- they had a ton of fresh oysters, shrimp, tuna, tilefish, scallops, and more. The owners are all very friendly and knowledgable and can help you choose exactly what you need. My go to is the sticky rice bowl, and I usually switch between tuna and salmon when ordering. I had ordered ahead for pickup and the order was ready within 5 mins! My dog was in the car when I picked up so I treated her to some of their fresh dog treats and she LOVED them! This place serious rocks! Best seafood market on my side of town. Always plenty of great options to choose from and take home. I've had the ahi, golden tile, shrimp and others and nothing disappoints. My favorite thing to do is buy a block of the ahi and just slice it up and make a random crudo. I have even brought my son here a couple times for a quick picnic on the bench by the bank of the marsh. Service is incredibly friendly and the prepared foods are to die for. The food was delicious, but very pricey for what you get. You get nothing with your meal (sides, chips, etc), so it's not very filling. Our po-boys were more like slider size. Cuda co. has been at the top of our list of places to try in Charleston based on both grassroots marketing and resonate social media. We had an experience tonight that did not meet the expectations set by the aforementioned influences. We spent $200. If we went to 167 Raw, $200 would have afforded much better food along with complimentary top tier service. For a $200 price tag for two guests I expect to walk away with a great story to tell about our experience. A potentially delicious crudo dish served on a reactive aluminum tray was probably the biggest let down. It tasted like metal, and the seemingly bored counter service attendant forgot that we ordered it so the fish was cut on fly and was sliced in large chunks and placed on awkwardly thick slices of unseasoned radish. Another thing we were really enthused about was supporting a purveyor and restaurant that is focused on sustainability and conscientious sourcing in the name of supporting native fish conservation. The plastic cups and silverware were dissonant to say the least for an ocean-centric business. We had the premium oysters, delicious, but we were told there would be three varieties, and after finishing the oysters noticed that 8 of the shells were the same. After asking we were informed that there were in fact only two varieties. If it's me, I am going to let the guest know upon dropping off the thing that it is different than the thing promised when it was ordered. From at 30,000 ft view, I think Cuda Co. is after the right things, but I believe that is super important to walk the walk if you're going to talk the talk. Too many companies are greenwashing their image, and I am not going to accuse Cuda Co. of doing that, but from the humble vantage point of a young 24 year-old from the cost who is aggressively burping watermelon radish at this very moment I believe Cuda Co. could be perceived as a business that is not delivering what it promises. All the love. I know it's hard out here, but authenticity and transparency are free. Invest in the that and you guys will crush. read more

We had the Tuna Crudo, which was amazing--we actually ended up ordering two to-go orders to bring home for later! We had the baked oysters, topped with pecorino, sweet reaper hot sauce and lemon, then the fish sandy and the coconut sticky rice bowl with tuna. All were absolutely delicious!! They don't have seating, but plan to add picnic tables outside soon!! Cuda is an interesting little seafood butchery, shop and restaurant. They ply their trade providing local fine dining restaurants with special cuts and preparations of quality seafood but also have a primarily takeout seafood restaurant. You can dine there but seating is very limited and the majority of their restaurant business appears to be take out. What's unique is that customers chose their dinners from the fresh seafood case, it's then cooked to order and packaged while you wait. If you are dining in you follow the same process but then take a table and wait for your pager to buzz. There are sides but they are few but inventive. The selection of seafood is limited as well but the quality is high. Oysters are a highlight and there are representatives from several locations. We dined in and feasted on stone crab claws and flounder with sticky rice and Caribbean chips as sides. They have several local beers and a selection of wine by the bottle, again leaning more toward takeout then dining in. Staff was very helpful and efficient. Plenty of parking and, thank the almighty, no background music. Overall a pleasant experience albeit not a normal dinner out. We give it four clams on the coveted Five Quahog Rating Scale. read more

Loved this sweet little unassuming shop and so glad we ventured out of Charleston and ate here for dinner on way back from Folly Beach. The space is modern and clean, half seafood shop and half restaurant (with a killer wine and beer vault). They have great non-alcoholic selections, pre-made spreads and sauces in case you want to take a fun picnic for the beach. I love the menu selection and the fact you can customize so much of the fresh seafood to your liking. We got fresh mussels in white wine sauce (not overly salted thankfully), house made bay vinegar chips, coconut rice bowl with seared scallops (or choice of protein), salmon crudo with pickled jalapeño, roe and watermelon radishes. Smoked fish with buttery crackers and fresh crudite, baked oysters and topped off with unique kombucha and lemon Pellegrino. The staff is friendly and they seem to love what they do.
