How could Cucci's not earn 5 stars? I've been eating at this place almost my entire life! It's definitely a local treasure and it's a mandatory meal whenever I come home. I always order the meatball sub with fresh garlic (chunks and chunks of it!) and crumbled sausage. Their sauce is phenomenal. I've often thought about purchasing a few jars of it to bring home for my spaghetti... Great for crowds - we used to go here after football games. In fact, they welcome it. They love a full house. Be ready for warm greetings and familiar faces from the guys in the kitchen and Victor, the owner, who is always smiling when you walk in. I always run into at least three familiar faces whenever I eat here. Last weekend while visiting, I ran into six people I knew from high school! Don't want a heavy italian meal? Get a salad. They've always had a salad bar but they recently moved it to a separate room (away from the heavy traffic) and they keep it meticulously fresh. My parents forego the pizza/turnovers/subs for big salads and swear it's the best salad bar in town. I believe them! I swear Cucci's should be featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. The turnovers (Cucci's version of a calzone) are terrific! Piping hot, stuffed with cheese and other classic adornments and boasting a tender, flavorful doughy shell. These gems also provide an exceptional value: they are BIG so order the smaller size, even if you have a fairly hearty appetite, unless splitting with a dining companion or you really enjoy leftovers! As others have mentioned, the red marinara type sauce which accompanies the turnover is terrific and the server will gladly package an extra to go cup of it if requested. First of all, Covington is my hometown, granted I moved away when I was 2 years old, but I still have family in the area. For as long as I can remember we would go to Cucci's at least once a trip, and this tradition has continued as I've become my own man. That being said, I've never had a bad meal here, even as my tastes have evolved over the years. Though I do recommend the mini Cucci Special, that being my favorite item off the menue. Of course, the pizza is also good stuff, and I was pleasantly surprised at how good the spaghetti once I ventured away from ordering the aforementioned turnover. Staff is always super friendly and very accommodating and it wouldn't be a trip to Cucci's without seeing the kindhearted owner himself and asking how Italian soccer is doing. My only complaint? I ate my first slice of Cucci's pizza in 1977 when they were little more than a shack by the side of the road. I have had occasion to eat many, many more slices of their pizza since. And even though I left the area in 2000, Cucci's always tastes like home to me. I stopped in recently after a long hiatus and found that the quality of food had not changed in 35 years. Everything is still just as good as it ever was. The turnover (in 1977, the people of the Alleghany Highlands would have had no idea what a calzone was, so they had to "Americanize" the name a bit) is still a gooey, cheesy treat. The crust is as good as it gets, just bready enough without dominating the dish. There is nothing fancy about Cucci's. The menu has remained essentially unchanged for decades. It doesn't try to be anything it isn't, and it has never lost sight of what made it successful to begin with. Good food, consistent quality, fair prices, and a family-friendly atmosphere. This is the second time I've eaten here and the food has been excellent both times, but for an Italian joint they need to expand the wine list beyond Sutter Home...yikes and no Cabernet Sauvignon at all. I have been meaning to get a review down for this place as it is the jewel of my home town Covington. I have had a lot of pizza in my life even had it in Italy but this place sticks out as the best of the best. They are run by a local family that has been in the pizza business since they were young. During the last two weeks I have had the pleasure of having two of their specialties: their Sicilian pizza and their Turnover. A Sicilian has a thick buttery crust that they compliment with their signature sauce. The Turnover is pretty much a Calzone which I prefer to cover in sauce. They tend to not skimp on ingredients which makes them a bargain for the price you get them for. If you are a local or just passing through on the way to places bigger and better I would recommend this place. read more

Came through this town for a friend's funeral. Covington is a small town ~5000, and everyone pretty much knew each other. When we talked about places to eat with the locals they recommended Cucci's as the "best in town." We arrived at 11AM on a Saturday and it was fairly crowded. It's a seat yourself establishment. We ordered a build-your-own combination LG pizza that consisted of onions, sausage, various peppers, and anchovies. anchovies were SALTY. Other than that, the pizza wasn't exactly the best I had - the dough was spongy, pizza was extremely greasy and service was ok. The waitress definitely came back one too many times to "check our water levels." If I had any other alternative if probably find another place to eat. read more

This place is supposed to be the best restaurant in Covington. I like that they have a salad bar and the pizza is fine, but I had lasagna and it was bland and overpriced ($14). My main gripe with the restaurant was the price of the kids meals. $10 without a drink! That is freaky insanely overpriced. Awesome family restaurant that my wife and I stumbled upon on our way home from Virginia Beach. My wife got a small pepperoni pizza which was massive and I got a mini meatball sub with chips. The pizza was delicious and had a sweeter pizza sauce which we enjoy. The meatball sub was pretty good, I was the bread wasn't as soft as it was and had some crunch too it. Prices are very reasonable and the kindness of the management was immeasurable. Nice looking salad bar although one trip is 5.95 and unlimited is 9.95. Definitely make sure to get your moneys worth if you decide on the salad bar. We didn't do it. It did seem like the servers were overwhelmed most of the time we were there though. What a great, authentic, Italian restaurant. It's more than just pizza. When looking at the munue, I saw an item unfamiliar to me. Spaghetti Picata. It sounded interesting. Thus I ordered it. What a great surprise. Spaghetti in a rather thick, meaty, sauce. I was able to identify pieces of green pepper, pepper flakes, and what I thought were pieces of mushrooms. Wrong! In any case, it is probably one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had. Did I mention that I'm a full blooded NY Italian? When I got home, I "Googled" Spaghetti Picata. Surprise! The version I had is of Sicilian origin. What I thought were mushrooms , were not. I will not tell you what it is because it may 'turn you off.' Everyone we met in the area spontaneously recommended Cucci's Pizzeria as the place to eat. I'd had meals here many, many years ago but had forgotten how good it was. We needed to seat a table of 16 so called ahead. When we said we had a large group, they responded that all their large group rooms were taken and this was on a Monday night. Apparently they don't consider 16 a large group. They were packed but had plenty of staff to cover the needs and then some. They had lined up tables so we were all seated banquet style. Of note, they did not automatically attach the customary tip for a large group. How refreshing and I believe they received more because of it. We were seated immediately, drink orders were taken and shortly thereafter meal orders. We were able to split the checks. The staff was organized and friendly. First many of us made our way to the salad bar. The offerings were fresh and generous with a wide selection of dressings. I ordered the chicken parmesan despite being turned off of it at a NY restaurant. Cucci's redeemed the dish for me. A large chicken cutlet, breaded and fried to perfection sit on a bed of spaghetti and marinara sauce. It was impossible to eat it all, take out boxes were provided. Refills of drinks were frequent. Whether you go for the pizza, sandwiches, salads, turnovers, or pastas, Cucci's is the place for you. They were voted top 10 in Virginia's best pizza. read more

I came here for lunch and I must say it was top notch service and great food. I did the all you can say salad bar, which had a lot of fresh ingredients. I had olives, beets, carrots, pasta salad, cucumbers and other toppings with Italian dressing. The dressing is light and flavorful. I also tried the chicken steak, very fresh, slightly buttery and crispy and tender! So good! My table also ordered some hot peppers stuffed with cheese and prosciutto and garlic bread, absolutely delicious. This is a great place to grab a bite to eat, reasonably priced and authentic Italian. For the Allegheny highlands, it's an impressive Italian establishment and a great addition to the community. I did not try the pizza or pasta, but I'm guessing it's awesome! read more

Cucci Pizzeria was very Clean, we arrived at 1145, just before the Lunch Crowd, was not sure if I should Order the Mini, the Server suggested I Order a Regular, Ok here goes, got the CUCCI'S Special, Turnover, without a Salad, then my Sweetie' got a Turnover of just One Meat, Veggies, with a SALAD Bar!!! During the early '90's while attending college, my college sweetheart, Randy, and I adored this place!! Cucci's has some of the best Italian food in the U.S., and I live in Los Angeles! When I broke up with my b/f and was headed home for AZ, Mr. Cucci was stung by the Feds on a sting op... He was always very nice and cool and you should really give them your business...HE HAS the best Beef sandwich in the world, and you should try it!!!! Covington was just a short stop for us on our way up to Boston and after looking over reviews we felt we had to eat at Cucci's (our hotel was also down the road). Everything was amazing. The atmosphere, the food, and our server Lisa, were all fantastic. Everything is made to order and just YUM! I had a turnover (their version of a calzone) and my boyfriend had a Sicilian (deep-dish) style pizza and we shared garlic bread sticks. when everyone in a small town recommend a place to you : it can only go two ways - Either it actually is one of the best places you ever been, or it's just the simple fact that it's the best place 'in town' .. the latter doesn't really mean it's going to be good. Been here a lot, as I said. Covington is a small town. Talked to the owner as well. Even had his special recommended philly cheese-steak .. everything is good, A-ok, but 2 things to take note off - it's not really THAT great of a place. second - it gets boring really quick. my assumption - they have their highly recommended pizza sauce - and they basically fit it in almost every possible dish they have. and assume that use it. (Well I dont like pizza sauce on my cheese steak..) and that sauce is also 'okay' and not great. their garlic bread IS fantastic though. I have a few colleagues who have really bad names for this particular establishment - and it's justified. while other's swear by it, and I can see why Last words - if you're in these parts and want pizza - come here to try. you might like it .. or might never come back here again. - you don't have a lot of options here either.. so go there with a smile, your attitude affects your mood (which affects experience) read more

Cucci's Pizza is absolutely the best Pizza place I have ever been to. Their pizza is not the average run of the miil Americanized cardboard you get everywhere else. It is real homemade pizza and the difference is enormous. True authentic homemade pizza is just so much better tasting, and most likely healthier. They are definitely a family run joint and their pride in the business really shows. They serve possibly the only authentic sicilian pizza I had during four years of college in Virginia. The food is fresh, the pizzas are huge and well done. The restaurant is clean and the staff is friendly. They have all types of authentic italian toppings you can't get anywhere else. Cucci's is basically a family owned version of Pizza Hut. The sauce is run of the mill, the crust unremarkable and the toppings bland. The clientele is about the same you'd find in an iHop - older folks and kids. And it's expensive! $2.25 for unsweetened tea with one refill? That is insane. At least the cups are big. read more
