My husband & I were on the way home to Illinois & wanted to make a "pit stop" to feed our car & ourselves. The sign on HWY 64 listed an Italian restaurant. However, when we came off the highway, we couldn't find it. We stopped to "feed" our car & kept on into town. We came upon 42 Deli & decided to stop. It seems to only have street parking but it was later in the day & we were able to park almost in front. It was about 1/2hr until closing but they treated us as if we were the 1st customers of the day. I had the Twisted Turkey & my husband, The Wacky Roast Beef. My husband said that the roast beef was VERY good and fresh. My sandwich was good but a bit messy because of the coleslaw on it(I might ask for it on the side, if were ever back). One of the ladies saw my problem & gave me extra napkins. The restaurant is comfortable & clean-the restroom too. Great customer service & very friendly staff! We will be back if ever in the area. Stopped in while we were walking around town. Very glad that we did. Super nice folks and we really enjoyed our sandwiches. It's a pretty big space, and it seems to be pretty popular at lunch time. Place filled up soon after we arrived. Counter service but they brought our food to the table. And the owner came out to check on folks. We will be back again. read more

This restaurant is AMAZING! I am from a giant city (Tampa) and come and visit family here a lot now that I moved to the Carolinas. I had the Ridgeway sandwich and it was easily the best sandwich I've EVER had. The slaw was out of the world, the potato salad was crazy good and I just can't get over how kind, funny and courteous Misty and the staff are. We came from Richmond for a family funeral. We hoped the restaurant we had been to at the last family reunion was still around, but it had closed. We did some looking and found 42 Deli. Glad we found this place. It is a quaint deli shop and has a great staff. They were very friendly and very personable. One actually came out and told our 5 year old son that if he finished his pb and just, then she would give him a cookie. The sandwiches we got were all delicious. Even my wife which is a vegetarian found a sub she could eat. I would recommend this place wholeheartedly! read more

Wow! This place is a FIND! I seriously had the BEST club sandwich in my entire life....and I've had a boatload of them all over the country. The ham and turkey were absolutely delicious, shaved super thin and were piled on to make a very thick and meaty sandwich. Even the wheat bread it was served on was extra special. Our party also had a green salad with chicken, and instead of the run-of-the-mill grilled chicken strips it was baked and pulled...super succulent and yummy. Potato salad was also excellent. The facility is SPOTLESS with high ceilings, booths and tables and very clean restrooms. Fountain sodas and iced teas, plus bottled beverages. Gorgeous looking desserts (we had NO room left in our tummies for those!), bagged chips and several salads to try (potato, cole slaw, etc.) Yelpers, this is a small town and a small establishment, so get your head in the right place before you walk in. The menu is limited (a deli with no rye bread or american cheese wouldn't fly in a big city, limited kids menu, ho-hum salad dressing selection) but everything we tried was delicious. Large, inviting, clean and open eating area. Nice selection of sandwiches, subs and salads. I had a daily special: Roast beef with house made pimento, grilled onions, lettuce and tomato on toasted Kaiser with potato salad, chips and a pickle. Hubby had BBQ with coleslaw, chips and pickle. My sandwich was excellent: just the right amount of kick in the pimento and a perfect ratio of cheese and meat. Hubby's sandwich was also perfect. They are open early enough for breakfast, but do not serve breakfast. When I walked in, there were two servers chatting by the door. I was the only customer. One server stopped chatting long enough to say "Good morning." I walked up to the counter to order. No breakfast food. Maxwell House "coffee" that tasted like coffee-flavored water. The food tasted good, but I was constantly shooing flies away from my food and drink cup. The chips served with my sandwich looked like they were the crumbs from the bottom of the bag. Great place for lunch downtown, only short drive from 64. Bright, clean space with plenty of comfortable seating (and high chairs), very friendly staff, nice selection of subs, sandwiches and salads.
