It's been 20+ years since I worked next door to what was then called Perrera's. When I saw it was still there under a new name I stopped in for a Cuban, platanos and a deviled crab. It's like nothing changed, the food is still amazing and reasonably priced. I talked with the woman working there and the old family had sold the business on but it's still a locally owned spot. I'm in FL, so that means Cuban coffee and Cuban food. Tried this place and loved it. The menu prices have increased since the menu pictures a few years ago but still very reasonable prices. The restaurant is a clean and no-frills kind of spot. I got a decaf cortadito and a 6in Cuban sandwich. Aries was working behind the counter and she was so helpful and kind. My coffee was ready fairly quickly, but the sandwich took a bit longer. During my sandwich wait, she helped others, tidied the seating area, wiped down tables, and all with a smile. A rough looking man came in and asked for ice, and she treated him with dignity and kindness, and even offered him water. Then, my sandwich was ready, and Aries apologized for the long wait, and even gave me a guava pastelito and a beef empenda for the wait. She went above and beyond, for everyone. The coffee was good, sandwich delicious, and the beef empanada so flavorful. All of them would bring me back, but Aries' outstanding customer service is my real highlight of this experience. read more

After taking the red-eye into town, I immediately went on the hunt for breakfast and proper caffeination; Cuban Eats was within reasonable walking distance of my hotel and looked very promising! Grabbed an iced coffee to try and help battle the humidity, which was delicious, and a Cuban Ham-Egg-and Cheese, which was absolutely perfect! We don't have any Cuban joints in my neighborhood so the flat, crispy, eggy, mustardy sandwich was just a real treat! (I normally eat a lot of breakfast burritos.) Service is great! Food comes up quick, even when they're also putting together big catering orders in the morning! There were no shortage of all sorts of folks coming in for their breakfasts. You can really tell it's a beloved spot by all. Most folks take their food to go, but we stuck around and ate in the dining room. It's pretty no-frills, but clean and tidy. If I'm ever back in Tampa, I'm definitely coming back to try some more lunch-focused offerings! read more

Maybe this place is still starting up, but it felt like it just wasn't ready for prime time yet. There were no menus posted in the store, their big TVs behind the counter were off, so it was kind of confusing even trying to figure out how or what to order, which was only on a little computer kiosk across the way. The ambience was like, empty half-done strip mall place that will soon be a used Pokémon card store or something. Really weird. I selected the grilled steak bowl for lunch with yellow rice, and when it came, it looked good, and it smelled good, and there was good flavoring on the meat, but the meat was some of the most grisly and chewiest I've had in a long time. It was really hard to chew, and I had to spit some of it out! I can't recommend this place until they address some of these issues. read more

It was just alright. The ladies behind the counter were friendly but seemed a bit overwhelmed. I visited with my coworkers and there was no one else there when we arrived but the service was slow and the line behind us was growing so I'm really glad we got there when we did! I ordered a cuban sandwich and an empanada. They have a number of hot foods ready to serve but it didn't look very appealing so I decided on a cuban sammy. I got a small which was $6.99 the sandwich itself was decent sized for a small but the sandwich left a lot to be desired. Too much ham not enough mojo pork. I've definitely had better. The empanada was really good but at $3.99 each it's not something I'll ever go back for. read more

Came here today for lunch and had the Palomilla Steak, Yellow Rice, and Plantains. For starters, the plantain was the star of the show...it was so tender and tasty, each bite was very fun and exciting. The Steak was seasoned to perfection and very delicious I don't know what cut the meat was but I would love to have this seasoning on a premium cut of beef cooked to medium. The rice was also very delicious and had a lot of character. My only gripe with the Cafe is that when I asked which items were gluten-free the gentleman in the front said everything was, including their breads. After further questioning and inspection, I realized they weren't so I let him know that gluten allergy is not a playful matter and that I could have been hurt if I didn't do my due diligence. For that reason I have to give them 4 stars because if I trusted the gentleman in the front when he said the bread was gluten-free, I'd be in the bed right now in pain. read more

Chicken with white rice and beans - delicious! I had to get the sweet plantains for dessert before racing back to court too! All this was like $12 with a drink - very reasonable. they are only open Monday-Friday to serve the downtown working crowd. I come here for breakfast and/or lunch a few times a week because it's right next to my office. The staff is very friendly to newbies as well as the numerous regulars. A double or triple shot of expresso is reasonably priced and beats Starbucks hands-down. The lunch specials are also a great value. You can choose a meat (I recommend the roasted turkey or pork or the beef & Spinach) and they serve it over your choice of rice and beans, or you can get the plantains. The breakfast sandwich is also better than Subway at under $4.00 you can choose whatever meat you want with a three-egg omelet and freshly pressed bread. Note that they use little if any salt in the food but they have hot sauces, etc. available. read more

I think this place has the best Cuban toast and cafe con leche in downtown Tampa, it might even be better than the Tropicana in Ybor--yea, I said it. The owner and employees are also friendly and extremely hilarious. The owner reminds me of the soup Nazi from Seinfeld, but a nice version, if that makes any sense. It's easy not to notice this place because it's all go and no show, they didn't exactly hire an interior designer, but it somehow adds to the charm. You also can't beat the prices. read more

My all-time favorite downtown restaurant! I love their mojo chicken with a side salad and their cup of beans, rice and meat, either turkey, pulled pork, or sometimes shredded beef. Also delicious is their salad with breaded chicken strips and golden Italian salad dressing! Their breakfast sandwiches are awesome, especially the western omelette on Cuban bread...
