The Cub should go to Chicago and join the rest of the Cubs. CUB stands for "Can U B" as in "Can U B more expensive? Didn't think so." This is the Minnesotan answer to the local grocery store that every other region seems to have its own version of. These are not bad but they're not cheap and this one screwed with me a lot because it told me that the hours were one thing, closing at a certain time, and then I show up to get my crap and they're already closed. Employees in the parking lot weren't even really responding to my questions. There were sketchy people in the lot, and it scared me because I was falling asleep here after too many Juicy Lucy's, but I don't recommend sleeping outdoors in St Paul to be honest with you from the looks of things. Definitely not in this neighbourhood anyway. Sketchy character - so I moved on and went to the suburbs and was much safer out there. And speaking of which how is it that even in the height of Summer it's cold at night in Minnesota. Anyway I've also been to this CUB in daylight and it was pretty standard. But stay away from it when it's randomly closed.

Went again 2/15/2020! Nice store! Friendly employees and love the signage and there was tyrone's fried chicken its famous! It's cub fried chicken but Tyrone makes it with love! If you are ever in the Midway area! Stop into this Cub and pick up some fried chicken! You will not regret it!

This college kid got a $15 Cub Foods gift card WHOO HOOO!!! Normally I only go to Cub Foods for specialty items or if they have a good sale for an item that I really like, but like I said, I got a gift card so you can bet your coupon clipping hands I was there in a heartbeat! This is probably the most diverse Cub you will find in the metro area and the best Cub for people watching by far! I was highly amused that there happened to be a Walmart AND a Rainbow grocery cart near the entrance!! This location/ area is used by a lot of public transportation riders (such as myself), so people tend to take a grocery cart as far as possible so that they don't' have to carry everything from location to location - either way I was very amused! A word that easily describes this location is sketchy! The prices are pretty standard and the produce is decent! Pretty much your typical chain grocery store. There seemed to be a lot of extreme couponers there, or maybe this is just me thinking that anyone with an overflowing grocery cart is a couponer due to my obsession with the TLC show Extreme Couponing (this is probably the case). This particular Cub tends to be a little dirtier than other Cub Foods; it needs a good Mr. Clean scrub down! The shelves are well stocked and well organized. They have a pretty big international section which I love. The prices for my staple items seem to be a tiny bit higher than Super Target (which is where I usually go)! You never know what kind of service you are going to get with the staff! The employee's service is either average or leaves one wondering "did that just really happen"? But if I had to deal with all the crazies that swarm from the Dollar Store next door - I would probably hate my job too! IT'S A GROCERY STORE PEOPLE! Nothing too exciting, but I give this location an A+ for people watching! I will stick to Super Target or Trader Joe's for the bulk of my grocery shopping! Currently the Light Rail Construction is in full swing in this area! THE CONSTRUCTION AROUND THIS AREA IS AWFUL! Whether you are driving, taking a bus etc., it's really a pain to get to this location right now! My best suggestion for you is to avoid this area until the Light Rail construction is over! HOWEVER I know the businesses in this area are hurting due to the construction and need all the support that they can possibly get!

I have purchased turkey a few times that has gone bad in my fridge before or immediately after the sell by date. I have a brand new fridge as well, so that can't be blamed. When you charge this much for turkey, it should at least last until the sell by date. I also don't appreciate how when you purchase a smoothie, they pour massive amounts of it down the drain when it doesn't fit into your cup. At least set those out as samples. It is extremely wasteful.

I'm glad that non-members can shop here, though, because I really enjoyed walking around. They had an aisle with bulk goods in bins, which I don't often see around here. I was mostly there to check out the cheese selection, and what I found pleased me greatly. They had a nice variety of cheeses, including many top-level local makers. They also had diverse jams, honeys, and crackers to go along with cheese; those were arranged atop the cheese gondola and on a nearby shelf. Checkout was fast, the checker very welcoming and pleasant. I'd definitely visit this market and others in the chain if I come across them again.

But seriously. Should I really be that petty??? So I made a mental list of the pros and cons. Inexpensive flowers? Check! Decent selection of produce? Check! A frozen aisle of items that make you go hmmm? Check! Plus they do the occasional sampling of something and it usually pretty good. Also, they OWN the self branded kick ass condiment market. The fried onion in pepper oil? Wow! The elote dip for chips? Can't get that shit in my mouth fast enough! The green bottle of jalapeño cream sauce? I will drown my eggs with that stuff! Plus the people that work there are all pretty awesome while dealing with us, the general public, who are in the grand scheme of things pretty f'n irritating. Honestly there is more but you get the point. Not worth knocking a star just because parking can sometimes be difficult.

I especially love Villa Elena wine, frozen chocolate croissants, and frozen orange chicken. I DO NOT recommend their Filipino Adobo inspired frozen meals. I LOVE chicken adobo and was so excited to try it... but it was horrid. Service was fast and friendly. Ambiance is great except for the previously mentioned parking situation because of the very few parking spots near the front door, and the difficult underground parking ramp. Sorry, I have to take away a star because of the parking.

They typically carry one of everything, but not necessarily a lot of variety. But that's ok! I love that all the people that work there are townies, and the cashiers are generally SSP Packer High School students. I'm grateful for Knowlans for being the place I can run to quickly for that last minute ingredient or item. However, Knowlan's is rarely a place I go to when I need to do my weekly grocery shopping. The lack of variety and hit-or-miss or hard to find produce usually drives me regrettably to Cub or Rainbow.

What is also outdated is the selection. The produce section is very small and the frozen/unhealthy foods sections are very large. The deli selection is also small and overpriced, in my opinion. I live close by, so have stopped in here on numerous occasions to pick up just one thing, and they often do not have it. Today, it was pita chips. Fucking pita chips. But they had plenty of Lay's Southern Biscuits and Gravy-flavored chips (GROSS). I would rather just wait until the weekend and go into downtown St. Paul to shop at the farmer's market. While customer service here is usually friendly, speed and efficiency are not their strong points. There will be one checkout open and three or four employees just milling around, even if the line is several people long. Sell more produce and less packaged, processed crap!
