First the good:
The back of my car appears to be repaired very well after I was rear ended. They even vacuumed out the Christmas tree needles from the back of the car. It came back way cleaner than it left. The work was also done a day or so earlier than they quoted.
Now, the bad:
I got in a 7 car fender bender. After talking to my insurance agent, I determined I probably did not want a body shop to fix my front end damage. I was one of 7 cars that rear ended each other, and my car hit the one in front as well as getting rear ended. The only damage I caused on my front end was a cracked grille, and the car in front of me that I hit had no damage whatsoever. So much so that we high fived and he congratulated me on my luck, then left. The damage on the back of my car was more severe, and my insurance company suggested these guys. So off I go to 427 Auto Collision to get my car fixed...
First, I had a hard time making them understand I did not want to pay for any estimate on the front end. This seemed very confusing to them until I told them about my $1500 deductible. Then they seemed to get it and we set up an appointment for me to drop off my car. In two weeks! That seemed a bit excessive, but I let it go.
Over the next two weeks I stared at the cracked grille every day, and beat myself up over rear ending someone. Every day I would come out of work and that little crack would taunt me, reminding me of my driving uh unprowesss...
Finally the day came when I dropped my car off and picked up my rental car for the week. a gutless soul crushing econobox that vibrated over 110kph. But I don't suppose that's their fault... It's like a back massage I said to my wife. Some people pay extra for that.
They send me an estimate of $2100 to fix the back, and $2500 after a visual inspection to fix the front. I tell them thanks, but no thanks on the front, and proceed to buy a grille on amazon for $100 and research youtube videos on how to install it.
A week after I drop it off, my car is ready to pick up and I show up bright and early to pick it up. They present me with a $1500 bill to cover my deductible... Uhhh. No. I tell them to this shouldn't be the case and they point to a highlighted section of the statement that says I'm responsible for the deductible. I think about telling them that I too own a highlighter, and can print all sorts of things out on my printer at home and highlight them... but don't. Instead we phone my insurance company and it that sorted out, to which they reply "I guess you're all set" or something like that. No "Sorry I tried to charge you $1500 sir" or anything like that. Whatever, I think. I'm over it; we got the misunderstanding worked out.
Then I go out to get my stuff in my car, and notice my front licence plate is missing. The same licence plate that was below the crack in the grille I'd been staring at every day for 2 weeks. No, they say, there's no way that we took that off, and we have pictures to prove it. I guess my license plate must have fallen off somewhere between when I left home in the morning and when I dropped it off? Seems a bit unlikely. Anyways. I let it go. New plates are only $34, and while it's a pain that I now need to go change my parking permit, it's better than fighting with them over it. So, I move on. I have my car, it's fixed, and I'm happy.
The next day I get an automated text message from them that asks me my opinion on their service. Great I think, I can get this off my chest. It likely will not go anywhere, but at least I'll have my say. So I click the link to start the survey, and it asks my license plate and postal code. I enter that, and it tells me there's no record of my car.
And that brings us to today. Me with a fixed car, and a brand new Yelp account, and you with this account of my dealings with 427 Auto Collision. read more
