I submitted a request for an appointment at StemExpress online and received a call minutes later. I was able to set up an initial appointment for that day. I wasn't sure what to expect walking in but the decor was very clean and welcoming! The staff was super friendly and offered me snacks. I filled out my paperwork and was taken right back. The initial draw was a normal amount for tests. The whole process was super quick and I was really impressed with the entire experience.

Quick blood donation on my day off is always something that I strive to do…read more Joy and Savannah were professional, quick and efficient setting me up and making my first time at the center as easy as possible. The canteen area had a list of snacks and drinks that you can enjoy while you recover from your whole blood, double red, plasma or platelet donation. They have full size drinks, snacks and even ice cream. Making an appointment online was quick and easy and filling out the quick pass before coming in makes it all simple I was out in under an hour. You never know how your impact will help so give when possible.

Timing and treatment of donors appear to be major problems at the Christiana center. At each visit, I had to wait much longer in the reception area (after filling out the electronic questionnaire) than I ever have at other donation centers. That wasn't the worst of it, though. Each time, once I had done the in-person interview and had my vitals and blood iron level checked, I was taken to lie down in a chair in the donation area. On my first visit, I lay there for about 15 minutes, without anyone even acknowledging my presence, before the phlebotomist finally arrived to take my blood. I'm used to getting hooked up immediately at my usual donation center, so that long delay was frustrating. I heard someone say they were short-staffed that day, so I decided to give the location one more try. The next time I was scheduled to donate, I returned to Christiana. I told my interviewer about the previous delay; she said something reassuring, then took me to the chair. This time, I lay there for more than 20 minutes, without a word from anyone -- no "Sorry for the delay" or "Someone will be with you shortly" or anything. I was feeling not just unappreciated but invisible. And I was worried I'd be late getting somewhere after my appointment. So, for my first time ever (after 50+ blood donations), I simply got up and left, telling the receptionist I couldn't wait any longer. From now on, I'll be donating my blood elsewhere.

Walking in, I was greeted and provided with the absolute best service you could get while sitting still for two to three hours. I mentioned that I had an issue before with my return arm and they decided to flip arms and even use a different vein. It was actually so much more comfortable for me, for this long process. I think this will be my new location going forward.

Over the years they've made tons of improvements to the facility, including adding many flat screen TVs, free WiFi, and portable DVD players with a decent selection of movies They still have plenty of snacks, including Sweet Street's donation (usually a loaf of lemon or poppy cake).

It was my first time but after reading other's reviews and weighing on my own experiences I think it's safe to say this place is more often than not behind schedule and entirely unprofessional. No one working there seems to care and they definitely don't move quickly. Total disregard for peoples time. I had an appointment at 3:30pm and wasn't actually helped until 5pm. That's right 5pm, a whole hour and a half PAST my appointment. This place is extremely slow, operating under total disfunction. Literally, please go anywhere else but here.

She barked at me to get my temperature taken before I sit down. Within 20 or 30 seconds I felt like it would be wise to just leave. I really wish I had listened to my gut. I sat for 1/2 hour past my scheduled appointment time. They finally took me back, did the interview, and seated me in a donation chair. They told me that I would not be able to move EITHER of my arms for the entire two hour procedure.... WHAT?!?! I am freaking out a little bit. What if I get an itch? Is someone going to be near me if I need something? Why is this room SO HOT?! I felt uncomfortable just from how warm the donation center was. And it was weird that it was so hot when I am donating on the 15th of April. I could not figure out why it was so hot in this place. They reiterated that I could not move at all for the length of the donation. I am really wanting to make a run for the door. But I remind myself that I am doing a good thing, that the platelets are badly needed, etc. They stick the needles in both of my arms. The gave me a remote to pick a movie to watch on Netflix and they gave me a set of headphones to listen to the movie. Then they basically paid no attention to me for the next two hours. No one checked to see if I was ok or needed anything. I had bruises that lasted over a week and they had me thinking that damage had been done to my veins. I will never donate here again.
