This was mine and my wife's last stop before driving home. We were just wanting a chocolate milkshake for the road. When we walked in, we were promptly greeted by a woman who seemed to be the manager. She was very warm and welcoming, and she walked us through the descriptions of several flavors. The interior was also cute and very clean (we walked in the minute it opened so maybe that changes throughout the day). We ended up ordering a large shake of a mix of cookies and cream and chocolate ice creams. She immediately started working on it. We had requested whipped cream on top of the shake. I noticed that she put real whipped cream on it which impressed me. I feel like most place just use the spray can variety. We got our shake and left. Once I tasted it, I was very disappointed. It tasted very freezer burnt and icy. There were large chunks of ice in the milkshake. This may not have been her fault but rather the variety of ice cream. They used Farr's ice cream here which is one of my least favorite varieties of ice cream. However, it tasting like old ice cream didn't stop me from slurping down the entire shake. While the service and location were great, I wouldn't recommend the shakes. 5/10 wouldn't try again. read more

Probably the best way to describe the dessert offerings at Crystal's would be to say it's either gonna be ice cream or cupcakes. The place is small and sparsely decorated, but in those two categories, it pretty much has everything you could ask for to satisfy a sweet tooth. We got the cupcakes both evenings that we visited (yes, it was so good on Day 1 that we returned for a Day 2 visit), and loved all that we tried. Those included the yellow cake with chocolate icing, carrot cake with cream cheese icing, and chocolate with peanut butter icing. This place was great. My party was looking for an ice cream shop that was open around 4pm on Friday and this was the only place open, surprisingly. They have some great flavors like grasshopper, which is an explosion of mint ice cream with Girl Scout thin mints. I also got the coffee flavor as a pick me up. I was surprised when asked "which flavor do you want to eat first". I have never been asked that but appreciated the simple detail that would make me enjoy my ice cream even more. This is your typical "who does what and who does it right?" Scenario... As with "In & out burger" (for example) you'll never find a chicken sandwich. And conversely you can't get a quality burger at "Chik-Fil-A" and honestly why would you want to. It's the old K.I.S.S. method. Keep It Simple Stupid Do one thing and do one thing right!!! So yes, there are other places in this small town that have tried to capitalize on my sweet tooth, and have managed to find an old ice cream freezer to fill in an attempt to call themselves an "ice cream destination." For example you can find a pancake and an ice cream cone in this town. Or even a stale freezer burnt ice cream (like the "spoke" next door to this place) and a cheeseburger. But why would you? (See last year's reveiw of the spoke, they're no better this year) I've found a place that does what they do, and they do it to 100% perfection. (Don't come here looking for a cheeseburger by the way, they don't have them.) It's mostly ran by what appears to be young teenage highschool girls and nothing screams "I remember my first job" like an old fashioned ice cream shop that also supplies some of the best cupcakes I've ever had. Pretzel cone? Out? Who runs out of cones in a place devoted to icecream as its main source of income? My wife was very disappointed to say the least. We had also spoken about cupcakes before we arrived and just about fell on the floor when we saw that it was $1.75 for a small cupcake. Looked like maybe two or three bites at the most. I don't think I'm being cheap, just can't justify paying that much for a cupcake, and a small one at that. The chocolate was just not good and I usually love cupcakes! -1 Star - The cleanliness was not impressive. 5 teenagers sitting on the counters, no gloves were used between touching the food and money and there was a gross muggy smell. We ended up eating outside because the smell. -1 Star - The teenage workers were rude and unhelpful. I have been served by Crystal herself and she is great! We stopped in for ice cream to cool us off after a nice dinner. My son is severely allergic to eggs. I made them aware of it and they went out of their way for my son. I usually don't get that service at other ice cream shops but they made sure to get a clean ice cream scoop AND made sure there was no cross contamination in the whole process. No questions asked and they did this on their own. I honestly don't care how much anything cost, when you get that kind of service...it's worth every penny! I don't think either one smiled once while we were there. This place has a bunch of "inspiring" quotes on the walls, they should at least hire workers that make customers feel welcome. Prices were great for a tourist town. I loved that they had a cupcake a la mode option so I got the lemon cupcake (which was a good sized cupcake) and topped it with the wild huckleberry ice cream, recommended by the staff there. The ice cream lacked flavor but that may have been my fault for not sampling it beforehand, but the cupcake was also "meh". It tasted like maybe it had been frozen & thawed and even though it had flavor and was moist cake, it just wasn't that good. Maybe I just chose poorly. Helpful, friendly staff in a convenient location with good prices, though so- don't be afraid to give it a chance. Seems like that there are plenty of other who were more happy with their purchase. Wow! We received the best service ever at an ice cream parlor. They asked before we could even tell them our child has a tree nut allergy. For two people, single scoops on cake comes cost less than $7. We tried the brownie ice cream and the coconut almond. Both were so delicious!! Crystals Cakes and Cones misses the mark. We didn't try their cupcakes, which I believe are good. We went for ice cream. I was let down to find out that Crystals doesn't make their own ice cream (which I can get over)... But more importantly I was mortified to find out they don't make their own cones. The smell of a freshly created waffle cone is such a pleasure when getting ice cream. Instead I ate my scoop from a semi-stale, bulk purchase that would more wisely have been acquired from a Costco. Moab is diseased... Dwindling in quality and aesthetic. crystals is at serious risk of catching this disease if they don't quickly implement some updates. I really liked the ice cream. I had rocky road in a pretzel cone. The pretzel cone was really cool and added a nice salty compliment to the chocolate flavor. I would have given it 5 stars, but the place was just complete chaos when we came in. They were super busy and the lugnuts in front of us wanted to sample a bunch of flavors before ordering. There was one lady and three teenage girls. The lady was really hustling, but the teenage girls just seemed a bit overmatched with how to deal with so many customers at once.
