We were wanting something cold and sweet and came across this Michocana! They don't have amazing ice cream flavors so we went for some sorbet. The strawberry sorbet consistency was meh. It wasn't like sorbet consistency but rather kind of icy. I wasn't a huge fan of it. We also got the passionate fruit sorbet which was sorbet consistency and tasted amazing! We stopped here for dessert one day during our trip to Moab. The service is amazing. They were patient as we tried different flavors to make our selection. We eventually went with passion fruit and strawberry sorbet. Both were amazing and they were flavors that you don't see any many other sorbet spots around here. The consistency of the sorbet was a little off, but it wasn't bad. The passion fruit was really the one that stole the show. The location is not on Main Street so it took us a bit to find, but it's still close enough to walk there and then walk back to the Moab food trucks. Walking into La Michoacana Artisan, it seemed like half the hikers in the area convened on this one spot for their after-hike refreshments with the promise of homemade ice cream. A long line snaked out of the shop as everyone sought to replenish the calories they had burned through the day and the outside benches were full of people enjoying ice cream and various treats. Still, the line moved pretty quickly and soon we had our order: Medium ($7.29) - This comes with three scoops (not the most generous of sizes), of which we went with the Matcha Pistachio Cheesecake (MPC), Gansito, and Horchata. The MPC does have a bit of matcha earthiness, pistachio nuttiness, and has small cubes of cheesecake mixed into. It has a major issue though - it isn't completely frozen into ice cream. It's like it just came out from the ice cream mixer, not completely solidified and more like a light custard in texture. I saw that some of the ice cream tubs that were filled over capacity seemed to be on the melty side, but I didn't expect it to actually be melted going in! I have never had the gansito snack cake before, but this ice cream tastes exactly like the description of this dessert. It's mostly earthy/grainy, kind of like biscoff, with a bit of a strawberry swirl, and a small amount of cream and chocolate. It has a bit of that kind of snack-cakey preservative taste, like taking a Little Debbie cake and making it into an ice cream. The horchata tastes nicely of cream, heavy cinnamon, and rice. Flavor-wise pretty good. Unlike the MPC, the horchata ice cream level was all the way to the bottom of the tub, making it the most solid of the bunch. Unfortunately, this results in quite a bit of ice crystals embedded inside. Overall, the ice cream is reasonably thick - not as low overrun as a typical super premium, but much better than any grocery store ice cream. There's a bit of a light stretchiness, indicating the possible use of some stabilizers. I hate to give this business only a 3 star rating, but they have some major issues that should not exist in a properly run ice cream shop: the tubs that are overfilled are melted while the tubs that don't have much left are icy. I went in expecting to visit this shop multiple times, and came out not wanting to go again. As a side note: As one of the employees was scooping more ice cream onto the ice cream nachos for another customer, I saw her bangs getting into the ice cream. Seems like a safety/sanitary concern. Bathrooms - None that I could see Edit: After seeing the owner's response, I think I might have been a little too harsh on La Michoacana Artisan. The fact is, it's homemade ice cream in a small tourist town. Yes, there are problems, but comparing against standards for an artisan ice cream in larger cities isn't really a fair comparison. Considering most other options in the area serve commercial ice cream, it's definitely a business worth supporting, even if it's not up my alley. read more

We visited here for an evening treat. This is a wonderful little establishment with homemade ice creams including the most imaginative sundaes such as those including Flaming Hot Doritos. We had the Cookie Monster Cup & the Ice Cream with Croffle (a waffle & croissant blend...but like a Belgian waffle). Both were amazing. They had traditional Mexican desserts too. The portions were big. We could have shared. The service was great. The employee was friendly & gave us tastes & helped us make decisions from all the options. The reviews for this one are well-earned. The gentleman who helped us was patient and kind, and offered free samples to help us choose. I went with the Smore's cup. The ice cream was super smooth and tasty, but I think it would have been more "Smore's-y" if it had been vanilla ice cream instead of chocolate. The ingredients on their own were great, but it did not meld as much as I would have liked. My partner went with banana chocolate chip - which is a somewhat rare flavor from what I gather. Ice cream is priced reasonably and if you get a cup you get a lot of ice cream and other treats as well. Super tasty, lots of fun flavors. The pistachios provide a nice crunch, They have other unique flavors and, I sampled about 4 and that was totally okay which was very nice. But pistachio matcha had the strongest flavor and best texture to me. They have chocolate rocks! Awesome topping. 2 scoops cost me a little over $5 which is affordable compared to ice cream places in New York. And good size too. The owner was very nice. Such a cute shop and there is a gift shop attached. I came back a second day and got the pistachio Marcha cup $8.50 and added chocolate rocks to it.
