recently visited Crystal Falls Golf Club to check on some ads I had placed on the course, and I have to say the experience was wonderful, largely thanks to an amazing employee named Lauren. From the moment I arrived, Lauren was the one who greeted me and made everything so easy. She was kind, respectful, and incredibly efficient--handing me a key to a golf cart right away so I could head out and check on the ads I'd placed on Hole 8 and Hole 15. She made the process smooth and stress-free, which I really appreciated. But what truly impressed me--and why I'm writing this review--is something that happened after I returned the cart. As I was leaving, I saw a lady come in looking for a lost wallet, and it seemed her loved one was in the hospital. Without hesitation, Lauren walked with her, offered comfort, and even took a moment to pray with her quietly near the front entrance. In a world where people often shy away from showing that level of compassion and faith openly, Lauren's kindness and character really stood out. I even called the manager, Larry, afterward to let him know how impressed I was. It's not every day you see someone go out of their way to offer that kind of genuine support, and it speaks volumes about the kind of people working at Crystal Falls Golf Club. Played over at Crystal Falls this week for the first time. For the price, it's a fun track with tight fairways and unique angles into the greens. Food truck at the turn was a nice touch. Will be back to play soon. read more

I was invited as a guest. I did not gulf. I actually attended a Super Bowl Party (I'm a 49er Faithful) sad they lost, but happy to find this club. I met Gino, owner of the restaurant that hosted the event in the club area, cool guy, had a good spread. Our bartender was amazing. Gino's wife also made us feel very welcome. We hung out inside and out, plenty of TVs. It was a little chilly at night beautiful sunset unfortunately the propane heaters were not working. Bummer. The location is simply stunning nestled in a beautiful neighborhood. My favorite part was meeting some of those neighbors, and now we are friends and hang out. read more

Me and my sons second time playing here really great customer service. Everything is really clean and ready to go. The starter is awesome. He was an ex coach in the area and a lot of fun. We had a 9 AM teatime got there a little early to warm up they have breakfast tacos if you need one everything you need in the pro shop, the course was in really good condition. All of the rain lately really helps. Everything is so green and pretty had a few slow groups ahead of us but still got it done in four hours. Great round enjoyed it we will be back. read more

The course is amazing, well-maintained, and offers great affordability for guests. However, there was an older gentleman at the front desk whose behavior was concerning. While he was very cordial to regulars, his attitude towards newcomers, including myself, was quite the opposite. I've never encountered such poor front desk service. He treated me harshly and rudely, but his demeanor changed completely when a familiar member arrived.I felt unwelcome, which was disappointing given the overall beauty of the course. If you're seeking feedback, I suggest hiring more welcoming and younger front desk staff. Initially, this gentleman seemed polite, but his demeanor shifted when I mentioned my husband. It was shocking to see someone so judgmental based on appearance. This incident marred an otherwise pleasant experience.Every other member of the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. However, it's difficult to overlook the negative impact of this one individual.Will be returning and hopefully I will be able to seek this individual and have a conversation on how to treat others, especially while on the clock. read more

I have not played here in years, like when they just starting building homes. This GC was known for being very inexpensive and you got what you paid for. I was pleasantly surprised when I played here last week. they really cleaned up the course, did some redesign, and most importantly flattened out a lot of the fairways. There was a time when a drive down the middle of the fairway would roll right into the junk as a lot of the fairways were slanted to the right. Overall the course is in great shape and is still a great value. Be aware if you spray the ball bring plenty of ammo as most fairways are tight and there are skinny greens that are well protected. There are some cool par 3s and some pretty challenging long par 4s from the back tees. If you are playing from the whites a 3 wood or long iron will suffice on most holes. Minor nit: When you hit a perfect drive there should not be tree branches blocking your approach shot. For example #17. I would have had to hit into the left rough for a clean shot to the right pin placement. Good value, nice scenery, and helpful staff...hack away!!! read more

Crystal Falls golf course is one of the finer courses in the hill country when I moved here back in the 90s 91 to be exact. I played on that course when I first moved here from Chicago and I just played couple of weeks ago and the courses awesome. A lot of people complain about it too hard to play golf. The staff is discourteous. It's been a recurring problem for my husband and I as this course is closest for us. Time and time again the interactions we have with the pro shop in person and over the phone is just crappy. It's not hard, your customers are excited to go golfing! I use the range often. Easy to access and you can prepay a fob to dispense balls. I have yet to golf there. I live just over the Leader line, which means a year long waitlist to be a member. read more

This course is in great condition, they seem to keep improving it. Not an easy course, hardly a flat lie on the while course. Play it smart and your score will be better. Nice elevation changes, nice views. The guy in the club house, Scott, is very friendly and accommodating. The Marshall, I think is Woody. Very friendly and easy person to chat with, he explains what he is doing and why. I have learned how to play this course and now enjoy it very much. They have GPS on the carts that tell you where to hit and how far. Pay attention to the location of the Pins. Makes a difference. Very reasonable green fees. read more

Never can play here under five hours. Get it right! Your rangers don't hold anyone accountable to the time, why? There is an entire hole empty between groups and no one is doing anything about it on a Sunday of a holiday weekend. This is the NORM. Done giving this course money. Figure it out. read more

I've played Crystal Falls 20-30 times and have become increasingly irritated by the attitude of the club pro. The past two times that I have played he has chastised me for looking at the clubs for sale. Each time I pick up an iron or wedge he yells, "Don't swing that club!" I never do and am just inspecting it to see if I'm interested. If you have clubs for sale you should expect that people will want to hold and look at them. Today I had enough and said I wasn't swinging it and he yelled, "I heard you hit the ground with it!" Again, I didn't and told him so. I'm a former division 1 golfer with a 2 handicap. I'm not some hack carelessly swinging irons in a pro shop. I've been playing for almost 30 years and have played some of the top courses around the world. Never have I experienced such a consistently unpleasant and unprofessional attitude, especially at a public course. There's a reason why Crystal Falls isn't a great golf option in the greater Austin area, and it starts with the management. I will not be spoken to like a child and will never play this course again. It's a shame because there is so much potential in the layout. read more

This course gives you the feeling of being out in the wilderness. Lot of cool wildlife to be spotted. The houses are not too close to the fairways - so you are never feeling constrained. And of course, every hole has it's undulations. A good drive doesn't mean you end up with a good lie :) . Uphill , downhill, sidehill - you will not all these shots on this course. Well maintained, friendly service - I see no reason to not play here. read more

$15.00 for, "approximately 90 balls" is among the most expensive I've ever heard of or seen. I have no idea why they think this is something worth paying a premium for, but typically the ranges are: $15 for unlimited range balls for the day, ***which is the best deal you'll find anywhere - or more like $5-$7 for 50 (small bucket), $7-$9 for 75 (medium bucket), and $9-$12 for 100+ (large bucket).......this stuff definitely adds up over time, particularly if you like to hit the range 3-5 times per week to get some practice swings in or work on a particular club or change. It just seems odd as this is a fairly passive income stream for the course and they should keep that thing full of players all day, weather permitting. The even crazier thing is that the price for a round of golf there ($30-$55 depending on time of day & residency) is fairly reasonable for a course of this quality and challenge. Just one man's opinion but this is a change I think would generate more activity for the course and keep the money flowing. read more

Booked a tee time for 4pm through golfnow for $64 per person. We get to the course and they tell us carts have to be in by 7:30 but if we are close they'll allow us to finish. At 7:32 we are in the fairway of number 18 and Jeff pulls up to us yelling, "didn't I tell you carts had to be in by 18?" He starts yelling profanities. I spoke with other staff who explained their stance civilly however Jeff remained rude and flipped our group off. Don't pay when they don't allow you to finish your round and are extremely rude after they take your money for a full price round. Avoid Jeff at Crystal Falls at all costs read more

Played here a couple weeks ago on a Thursday morning and the greens were bare and it was like putting on glass. The people playing behind us were very pushy and rude. They got the marshal on us to hurry up...we told him we finished our front 9 in a little over 1.5 hours, and we were actually putting (unlike the group behind us who were playing on the red/white tees). The pro in the golf shop was nice. Other than that, stay away - there are other courses in Austin that have better experiences and after talking to some friends about Crystal Falls, they say similar things. read more

My first time out here in probably 20 years. I prefer to walk but this course would be a VERY difficult walk unless you are billy goat. Played from the white tees which made the course play a little short. This is not exactly a grip it and rip it course. Work is needed to keep the ball in play regardless of which tee you use. There are some tight fairways so I found my self frequently playing 3 & 4 hybrids off the tee just to be safe. Lots of elevation changes which make the course interesting and quite scenic. Plenty of trees, sloping fairways and undulating greens. It would be helpful to play with somebody with a bit of course knowledge. Perhaps the on-board GPS on the cart would've been of some help but I never looked at it. Overall I had a good time and probably will not wait another 20 years to get back out here. read more

Beautiful course in a beautiful hill country, Texas setting. This course is extremely difficult for the amateur golfer! Even if you hit the fairway, there's a good chance that your ball will roll of into the rocks or river. There are plenty of traps and water hazards to play around. The food at the club house is really good and the staff is friendly and accommodating. Get here early as this place fills up with regulars who live in the neighborhood. The practice facility and clubhouse were really nice. The course is very scenic with lots of opportunity to get lost in thought thinking about how wonderful everything around you looks. read more

I took my daughter here to hit balls this evening. Due to Covid, they had shut down the practice facilities early to disinfect (much appreciated)! They could tell my 7 yo daughter was really disappointed so offered to let us play the first few holes walking. She was on CLOUD 9!!! Really appreciate the kind staff. Played the course this past Monday. Great condition. Challenging course. Very competitive green fees. Highly recommend! read more

Can not get past the rudeness of the staff. Most do not know how to use a computer or how to speak another human. The price hike for this course is insane. Management has unwritten policies and procedures that they seem to makeup on the fly. Had a rain check for the remaining nine holes that we were not able to finish. Went back and were told we had to pay a remaining balance for the price difference? Learn the definition of a rain check, or call it something else. Another event happened on the tee box at 6. We were waiting for the fairway to clear so we could tee off and a marshal speeds in to tell us to increase our pace of play. This was a Sunday and they had allowed a group of five to go off in front of us. We had been trying to play through but the foursome in front of them was not any better. A marshal should never come up from behind you to say increase pace. They should come towards you after doing due diligence and get some course awareness. Their golf carts have gps that is monitored by the club house. So, I hope I have given enough examples of the rudeness and ignorance of the current staff at this course. read more

This is a great golf course on all levels... it's just sad that I only found it now. This is easily my favorite golf course for the money. (Roughly $40 green fee on the weekend including cart.. believe me.. you want a cart.. unless you enjoy torturing yourself) The greens are well manicured and slightly fast (my favorite greens on a public course in Austin), the layout is unique and very challenging incorporating enormous amounts of elevation change, and the scenery is first rate as it is in the hill country. Expect to see deer and turkey crossing the fairways to drink from the several natural creeks and waterholes. This is a great place to take an out-of-towner to showcase Austin's hill country. There is so much elevation change that they have to use motorized carts versus electric carts.. so don't be alarmed.. as electric carts just wouldn't be able to make it up many of the hills. There are several par 3's that you can't see the pin from the tee box.. due to the 100 foot or more drop-off to the canyon below... have never seen anything like it except on the Golf Channel. The course reminds me of Barton Creek - Fazio Canyons in that it is built in to the side of a large hill... and the scenery and course layout is quite comparable .. but is available to the public and is about $150 cheaper to play. The club house is very nice with that Texas country kinda feel... and it seems this place is relatively new.. as there is this nice, huge, un-weathered patio deck. If only this place was closer to central Austin (about 30 minutes out).. but that's probably how they have such cheap green fees.. as I'm sure land is much cheaper out there. But the drive is quite manageable when you know what you are getting yourself in to. Not highly recommended for beginners (unless you don't mind losing a dozen balls or so) as there are very narrow fairways at times (or the trees cave in to create very small ball flight path corridors towards the green), thickly wooded rough, and the elevation change.. ha.. well.. it can be quite imposing. Although there is practically zero bunkers which is nice... but they make up for it with the tight green placements. read more

I hate Crystal Falls Golf Course. Half of the holes are crap...It needs a serious redesign, but that costs big money and it's not going to happen here. The greens are in bad shape almost year round...but the fairways are decent. This isn't because they take good care of them, it's because they are really difficult to hit. Most are slopped so drastically they will not hold a shot...good or bad. You will see alot of deer and turkey. Pace of place is slow...you have been warned. Service is non-existent. There is a guy inside to take your money, and a guy at the snack bar to take your money, but thats it. There is a "marshall" that is worthless. Old people to drive around the course and fake wave at you. How about asking that 5 some of elderly men on a 6 hour pace to get the hell moving! Beer is cheap enough and the food at the snack bar is decent. +2 stars because they have a great coupon...$25 with cart during the week. It's tough to beat $25 golf in or around Austin. read more

I think my yelp review will echo Patricks. The course needs to be redesigned in a badddd way. The whole course swales up and down, left and right and everything funnels into creeks or dropoffs and great shots will always end up in a bad location. There are no rewards for great shots and the only saving grace of bad shots is that you find like 90 golfballs. I found so many Pro V1's that I don't need to go to golfsmith again for a few years. The greens were fast, slow, tall, bald, shaggy, aerated, wet, and burned and this all encompassed a single green. Greens were oddly shaped and like Patrick said, don't hold shots, except for the dropoff par 3's. I think canyon courses are awesome (palm springs, Vegas, Arizona, Colorado) but if u plan a course through a canyon, you need to plan a course through a canyon. I also noticed a police trap at 6:40 am in which I heard the sirens go off 4 times while on frontside of the course. So many of golfers pay the green fee and a little something donated to city of Leander before or after. Poor form, watch the 40 to 30 mph swing after lakeline and CFP. I'm thinking Blackhawk w/ hills which isn't a compliment. Pray for coupons read more

Pretty exotic courses, and had a unique style. The price wasn't too bad when it's on-sale. However, the greens aren't that great. The service and employees were terrible. One of the employees was playing in the same course I was, and continuously insulted my golfing skills while I was playing in an attempt to get me off of the course. The employee had a very bad attitude problem, and to mock me while I was there for the very first time was not a good habit. I recommend going here only if it's your last option. read more

This course is great! Elevation changes and great scenery. Well worth the hike from Austin! Their GPS cart technology needs some work. It shut me down on a cart path saying I went in an unauthorized area. Had to call the pro shop and get them to unlock it. I played a twilight round and they get all carts off the course by 7:30 which is pretty early. Just FYI to twilight golfers. read more

I don't know why there is so much hate for this great course. The only thing I can think of, is that it's too tough for some. In Texas, most of the courses are flat, but Crystal Falls offers some great elevation changes. The fairways and greens are in great shape, but do play a little tight. The Crystal Falls Golf Club is a very scenic golf course. It's tucked away nicely in dense forest with hill country views. However, in terms of golfing (the purpose of the course), it could use some additions/fixes. It would be nice if there was some better signage at each tee box so you aren't relying on the GPS units in the carts or the printed score cards for distance measurements. We found the GPS and score cards could be way off from one another causing us to question our approach. The greens are pretty ratty. The only complaint I would have about the fairways are that some are so hilly, you don't know where your ball landed, rolled or otherwise disappeared to because visibility is so poor. I'm an amateur golfer so this might no be an issue "pros" will experience. Some individuals could use some personality transplants if you get my gist. Might be a course I'd visit once or twice a year but not regularly. read more

We moved here in 2015 and found this course only five minutes from our home in Westside Preserve, Cedar Park. The beautiful views along the course and the challenging holes make it a great day of golf! ( whether or not we play well). The amenities and staff are excellent! We look forward to becoming members after we retire and have enough "golf time" to make membership worth the while. read more
