Stretching along Shoal Creek, the park offers a mix of shaded walking and biking trails, open lawns, and beautifully restored natural areas. It is hard to believe when you are in the park that you are in the heart of central Austin. The park is especially family friendly, with a large playground, splash pad, treehouse style observation area, and plenty of seating. While we were at the park a school was hosting a picnic for its students. The northern portion of the park is even more quiet and scenic, with winding trails, limestone bluffs, and creek views. It's a great area for dog walks, leisurely strolls, picnics, workouts, or just relaxing under the trees. The park is well maintained and welcoming to all ages. This park is very special.

Fun treehouse with webbing you can walk and sit on. Scared me a little bit, haha, but I'm sure it's secure and can support a lot of weight. Can't forget the troll. Love me a good troll installation. Keep following the creek trail past the playground and you'll find him. Nice bathrooms too. Clean, with multiple stalls. Saw a couple food/drink trucks. They do various events here too, I believe. Parking is a pain. This is an old park so there's just a tiny adjacent lot. You have to hunt for nearby street parking. I did notice large signs with QR codes for nearby parking lots offering spaces (not sure how far they are though).

I can see how most times people just drive off.. me being the curious person I am just started walking by myself in the woods on a trail. I fortunately just so happen to see one woman walking her dogs and followed her in that direction but i swear to you she was walking fast as to not give this place away hahah! She actually disappeared onto another trail and couldnt find her.. (like Alice and Wonderland and the white rabbit style).. finally I heard splashing! I looked to my right and saw a weird trail that went down a steep side hill. So I followed the noise.. its pretty steep so be careful! After the brush and trees cleared THERE IT WAS! CLEAR, COOL WATER!! It was shallow when I got there and only about 8 people were there at 1pm during a Saturday. As time goes on it gets deeper and the water rises! Also more people start coming too. It feels sooooo amazing! You can grab a chair and just sit in the middle drinking and cooling off. Dog friendly! I spent a few hours with my boy before heading back. I live for finding places like this!

Her name is Tails, previously Wrigley. Have been to Zilker with her five times in the three weeks that we have had her, most recently this morning. This continues to be a great place to take a friendly animal and allow them to run wild off leash. She loves mixing it up with the other dogs and, being a Ridgeback, she is the fastest dog out there other than some of the Vizslas. Loves the sand where volleyball is played! Lots of parking! Easy access!

Zilker Park is Austin's giant front lawn -- sprawling, busy, and full of every outdoor activity…read moreimaginable happening at once. On any given day you'll see dogs chasing frisbees, people picnicking like it's a competitive sport, and someone doing yoga in a spot that makes you wonder if they're performing for the whole park. The lawn stretches out forever, and on a sunny day it feels like half the city is out there claiming a patch of grass. Yes, the Zilker Zephyr (the little train) still exists in spirit, though it's been through closures and rebuilds. The current version -- the Zilker Eagle -- runs a short loop that's basically nostalgia on wheels. Kids love it, adults tolerate it, and everyone agrees it's one of those Austin things that doesn't need to make sense to be charming. Down by Barton Springs Pool, the real show is the area where the pool overflows into Barton Creek. It's almost always packed with families, college kids, and anyone who didn't feel like paying admission or dealing with lifeguards. It's a lively, slightly chaotic stretch of water -- people wading, floating, splashing, and generally having a great time in a spot that feels like Barton Springs' unofficial side‑door entrance. Parking is its own adventure, especially on weekends, and you'll see people trekking across the park like they're on a pilgrimage from wherever they finally found a spot. But once you're in, it's easy to settle into the mix of sunshine, crowds, and classic Austin energy.

I was waiting at the gates at 8AM when the park gates opened and asked the gate opener why the off leash dog park was "closed until further notice" He said there was some issues with 2 different contractors that were on contract to get some grass growing (long story short the off leash dog park will have grass before it will reopen mid July). This is Bee Cave after all and they expect a dog park to have grass (Me holding back laughs:) My pups and I did the 2 mile paved loop and loved it thanks to the nice late June cold front! and peeked into The Backyard backstage. Lately there has appeared a bunch of little "rugs" all over. Is it art? Has it something to do with the Frisbee course? Is it the work of some random art-prankster? I have no idea, but I love such mysteries. The creek that flows through tends to be a mess, and a clean up would be welcomed. You may spot the occasional homeless dude camping out, but I've never had any problems. Just a nice urban park.

We never would have known this place was here if a friend in San Marcos hadn't told us about it. They're open to the public on a limited basis as this is a PDGA course, but keep an eye on their website and call ahead to confirm they're open to take advantage of any opportunity you have to go. They have two courses, Rolling Meadows and Circ Hill. We played on the Meadows and it was a great course. It's beautiful and pretty logically laid out. I'm a little mad that we didn't manage our time better because I wanted to play the Hills as well, but we had lunch plans and had to leave before we could. Their pro shop has a variety of discs for sale and a well stocked fridge with sports drinks and the like. There's a $10 greens fee for each player, but you can tell that they put that money to good use. That course was just amazing. We will definitely be back.
