New location is spacious and awesome! Same friendly vibes and adorably delicious vegan pastries! Pop tarts in every flavor. Loved the everything bagel bomb! Soft and squishy and full of flavor.
I picked up a small chocolate cake with several different kinds of baked goods for my friend's birthday dinner. Everyone loved the pop tarts, and assorted cheesecake slices I served. The bakery is small however they always have a great variety of baked goods, and the flavors are amazing. My only reason for a 4-star review is the inability to connect with the business directly on the phone, despite their phone number being listed on Google.
Crust shared on Instagram that they were serving up a biscuit breakfast sandwich and that got my attention, so my husband and I decided to check them out on one of their early mornings (they are only open at 8am on weekends starting on Fridays). So on a Friday, we headed there at 8am and ended up getting that biscuit sandwich - a biscuit with a JustEgg and sausage and cheese - and we also picked up a bacon egg and cheese on a croissant. Both were SO GOOD. We also grabbed a slice of cheesecake for later which was good as well. There are far too many sweet choices - I need to go back and try them out soon!
I have enjoyed all my items from here. The croissant sandwich was close enough to the real thing, the ice cream was flavorful, the pastries were nicely decorated and didn't feel like substitutes. I just wish they had a description of the sandwiches and I didn't have to ask because I probably would have gotten the sausage biscuit too. I heard other vegans rave about this place and I wanted to try. Finally did and it was a nice surprise even though I am not vegan nor vegetarian. Staff here is friendly.
I've been here a handful of times since my original review and have had consistently excellent experiences. A few things to highlight: the oatmeal raisin cookie is a 10/10. The blueberry muffin is on the denser side but delicious and will definitely order again. The pumpkin spice scone was just ok, not as good as their other scones. The tiramisu parfait was good but not the best vegan tiramisu I've had. The croissant breakfast sandwich was well-loved. They used to have incredible hot chocolate but did not have it at our most recent visit.
I am far from Vegan. I'm also blessed with no issues around Gluten, am not lactose intolerant, nor do I have any dietary issues. For those reasons, I never felt it urgent to check out Crust Vegan Bakery. I'd recommend you avoid this mistake and give them a go ASAP. I've had a handful of their cookies and cookie sandwiches. OMG! Every bite is amazing. I cannot tell it doesn't have any of the things I would regularly expect to make it tasty. While I wouldn't flag any dessert as healthy, I believe they are healthier than alternatives as well. Enjoy!
So glad I got to visit Crust for the first time-- I've followed their Instagram for a long time, and everything looked just as delicious in person! The shop is very cute. In addition to the baked/refrigerated goods they have chocolate, candy, teas, and various gifts. My friends and I tried the apple pie sundae, wild berry poptart, and vanilla cheesecake. The worker was helpful in guiding our decisions-- there were so many options to choose from! Aside from the cheesecake being on the plain side, everything was fantastic. Next time I'm in Manayunk I'm excited to come back and try more :)
I was really disappointed with the flavors and the service! Staff was pretty rude and didn't seem like they really knew how to talk with the public. The cookies I bought, and a chocolate poptart was dry and very faint in flavor. The pop tart icing popped off the second I took a bite. The only dessert I was really pleased with was a blueberry (I think) cheesecake that had lavender sprinkled on top. The edge crust of the cheesecake contained the cheesecake filling, which was pleasantly surprising. The flavor was faint on this dessert as well, but had a good ratio of filling, crust, and topping. The absolute worst part is this business still follows COVID protocols. That is FINE. Until you get to the end and they present you the tablet with the tip section and go "what buttons do you want me to press??" Makes for a very uncomfortable situation for your patrons. Just let them press it themselves!!
As someone who is lactose intolerant and has almond nut allergy its not always easy for me to find desserts and treats that taste like they're non vegan counterparts.. but Crust nails it every single time. From there cookie sandwiches with incredible frosting in between, or there pop tarts, or cakes, or there very savory bagel bombs, you absolutely cannot go wrong. And as of a few weeks ago they now have vegan soft serve! Oh, and they have waffle cones (and cake cones). It doesn't taste exactly like Dairy Ice cream, but it is so so close. I go at least once a week for cookies, but will certainly be going more with the promise of ice cream too!
If I could give this bakery more than 5 stars, I would! Amazing service and ambiance! The food? Unbelievable! Everything I ate -- the sundae, cookies and cream cake, and slice of cheesecake were out-of-this-world delicious! The staff was lovely and so helpful! Can't recommend this place enough!
Got surprised with a vanilla cake and loved it! The icing is a little bit on the sweet side but otherwise has a great flavor, is not super crumbly or dense. The cheesecake was great as well, very fresh and light flavor.
They have a ton of variety...from cookies, to cakes and even ice cream. They change their flavor options often so there is always something new to look forward to. The staff is always nice as well.
My friend and I both enjoyed the baked goods at Crust Vegan Bakery. I tried the strawberry sammie and berry pop tart. The Sammie was tasty, I really love the texture of the sugar cookies, they were crisp and slightly soft in between the strawberry filling. The pop tart was good, the filling was flavorful and I enjoyed the presentation. It was topped with pink frosting and dried rose petals on top. My friend said the slice of lemon cake was good but I can't confirm because I didn't have a bite. The 3 baked goods totaled $18.63.
We keep driving passed and saying we gotta stop. Well today we were having lunch at Cresta and were like we gotta finally go. So we went! Open the door and the smell was instantly awesome. I got a lemon ice cream cookie. That was awesome. I don't know if I've had lemon before. All the treats were so neat looking. My wife got these pistachio cup cakes. She said they were delicious. I haven't had one yet but man do they smell great. The presentation is just beautiful. Cannot wait to go back. read more

I'm not vegan, but my friends are and they brought me some carrot cake and cookie butter cake from the new East Falls location. As an avid baker with a major sweet tooth, I can honestly say these were amazing - you really would never be able to tell they were vegan! Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting is one of my all-time favorites, and this one was so moist and delicious. Surprisingly though, the cookie butter cake ended up being my favorite of the two. It was perfectly sweet, packed with that warm cinnamon-spicy flavor, and incredibly moist. I can't wait to try more of their baked goods! read more

My friends and I were planning a surprise for another dear friend of ours and wanted to be inclusive in our food options. Enter Crust Vegan Bakery. We were hard-pressed to find bakeshops with gluten-free cakes downtown! Enter Crust Vegan Bakery. I placed an order online for the 6-inch gluten free chocolate mocha cake. The person who helped me showed me the cake, I had no qualms except for the fact that I had to wait to eat it. This cake survived a 3.5 hr drive to the Poconos. Partly because I forsook all my belongings to protect this cake. But mostly due to 4th of July traffic. My friends and I loved the cake! We rationed leftover cake for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Good Lord, we were fighting over the last piece. Needless to say, I'll be ordering more cake from this shop! You folks are doing great, thank you for making the delicious cake!! read more

Awesome desserts! Love the pistachio scone at my local coffee shop, so I figured I had to make the pilgrimage to the original location out here in Manayunk to see the other offerings. The worker was not very friendly, but the scone, cheesecake and coffee cake we got were awesome. Everything tastes real and I could barely tell it was made with no milk or butter. read more

I drove 5 miles to this bakery for vegan cheese cake. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. One slice of strawberry cheese cake was $5.50, an amount I am gladly willing to pay for a delicious dessert but unfortunately, this tiny slice of cake did not live up to the price! The cake had a sweet strawberry jelly type glaze with "0" strawberries on top. Made from tofu, the "cheese cake" part of the dessert had no cheese taste at all. To say it was the texture of cheesecake is a stretch. The only comparable taste to cheese cake was the sweetness. (Maybe my palate has been spoiled by tasting cheesecake of a certain vegan bakery in Bethlehem.) On a brighter note, the brownie was delicious! read more

I come to get their vegan soft serve all the time and every time it's been DELICIOUS, so when I needed to pick up a cake on short notice I knew this place would be the place to go. Long story short, my friend dropped the ball and forgot to get a cake so I went and grabbed one of their premade Vanilla cakes and it looked beautiful! Since they have time requirements for piping stuff, I just popped over to acme after and got those little gel writing pens. I'm writing this 1 because they had cute cakes available last minute on a Saturday evening, and 2- because that was the BEST CAKE I've ever had. None of us were vegan, we just needed a cute cake, and when I tell you this was the most moist, perfectly sweet balanced cake I've ever eaten in my life, I'm not kidding. If you're ever in the area and you see this place, pop in and grab something because it's gonna be damn good. Thanks Crust for saving the day with the best cake ever! read more

Suggested by a friend of mines and I'm so glad I gave this bakery a try! I don't live on this side of town so it's rare that I'm in the area but i happened to be this past weekend and was not disappointed with my visit at all. Do the treats taste vegan? I don't know how to answer that question--I'd say a little bit of yes and a little bit of not really lol. The crust on the pop tart pasty was to die for... better than regular pop tarts in my opinion. The crème pie was soft and tasted like Fall! But that blueberry lavender cheesecake is where I draw the line lol could've done without the lavender as it was way too overpowering but I'm still happy with my purchase nonetheless. My friend had the cheese danish... I literally wanted to throw my box away after trying that!! Lmao if you end up here please try the danish--Best vegan things I've ever had honestly... and taste just like the real thing! Thanks Crust; I will be back! read more

They finally have a store front!! Delicious is an understatement. Crust Vegan Bakery has the best fresh pastries and baked goods. Back in May (4 months ago) we had an opportunity to try their cinnamon buns and cosmic brownies and ever since then we have been hooked. Last weekend when we heard they were opening a store front down the street from our house we marked off our calendars and counted down the days! Their new store front is in a perfect location near the heart of Main Street Manayunk. Currently no seating and yesterday they sold out of all baked goods during their soft opening so be sure to go early! My new personal favorite is the strawberry rhubarb pie! Light, not too sweet, absolutely amazing. Must try! read more
Tried Crust for the first time last week! I thought the place was very cute. They have you order at the door and they bring you your order. All items are displayed in the front window. I got the pistachio rose cinnamon bun, the pb&j bar, the fudge pretzel bar, the slice of pumpkin bread, and a chocolate chip cookie! All of them were good--the fudge pretzel bar wasn't as sweet as I thought it would be but the pb&j bar was extremely sweet. My favorite was the pumpkin bread--very soft and flavorful. read more

Poor customer service especially when they ask for a tip. Attitude, attitude, attitude!! I asked prior to buying the Vday treat box if i could have specific sayings and the girl Meagan specifically says in an email that i can swap out the cookies if i dont like the sayings. So I WLwent ahead and bought the treat box knowing this. Went to pick it up today and I didn't like the sayings on the cookies. They gave me the lamest ayings on purpose. Asked to swap out and they wouldn't validate the email. I gave them a second chance since I had an issue prior. Ill have to find another shop because I dont do liars or attitude. They be really trying me. Most bakeries will go above and beyond for their customers especially when they be asking for a tip and overcharge items. Poor service indeed! The girl needs some manners and lessons in hospitality before sometin happens. She might catch the wrong one. read more

I don't have any dietary restrictions, but I'm here to talk about the pop tarts. Drove 20+ minutes from South Philly for this place and it was 100% worth it because HOLY wow they are insane. I kid you not, the berry pop tart tasted EXACTLY like a Kellogg's strawberry pop tart. I don't know what kind of sorcery they use in this place to do that, but I am here for it. Will definitely be a must-stop every time I visit Philly from here on out! read more

After lunch we went across the street to Crust, a Vegan bakery across the street with strict covid-safety standards. Huge plexiglass at the front counter, only 3 customers allowed in at a time and you must wear a mask. We got the peanut butter chocolate pretzel brownie and 2 different kinds of chocolate chip cookie sandwiches. We took these home and all were mucho delicioso!
