Came here on a Friday night just before karaoke was starting. Place was lively and got a booth. The menu was a barcode you had to scan, so tad annoying there but no biggie. For food, we got an appetizer of onion rings and they were pretty tasty and crunchy. I be got boneless bbq wings as my main and they came out super quick like 20 minutes along with the est of the food. The waiter was quick with refilling drinks. The wings were very good and worth the price in my opinion. The karaoke that night was fun, the line was super long, so we didn't do it but was fun listening to it. read more

I was never really a regular at Crunchy's while in college, but definitely had a few karaoke nights here and there. Nate and I stopped in for a drink and a snack recently while driving back to GR from the east side. I did have a chuckle at the many signs yelling at you to definitely NOT park in the parking lot that definitely looks like it should belong to Crunchy's. Obviously this has been an issue for them and whoever owns the parking lot (which was completely empty when we visited). So just park in the spots on the street near the park behind the building, otherwise you will DEFINITELY get towed. This is clearly not the fault of Crunchy's, so pay attention and you should be fine. The bar is divey and can be pretty popular during peak season (at least when I was in college) but luckily it was summer and the bar was full of locals. We were seated right away in the side of the bar with the pinball machines and our server was really friendly and nice. The pinball machines are constantly making noise so we heard the same few bars of some pinball machine music over and over and over throughout the whole time we were there... kind of annoying but what can you do. We got some drinks - I tried the Yooper juice, which is their version of a paloma, it was good. We also got an order of chips and cheese with taco beef to share. It was a good portion and the toppings were tasty. Topping distribution wasn't the best, but it was good bar food. They have drink and food specials throughout the week. They're known for their pizza, which I've never had, and their buckets of beer and food. Definitely a classic East Lansing bar and worth a stop if you enjoy a good dive bar. read more

While visiting the area, I had a great experience at Crunchy's. We were there for dinner and trivia night, and there was a little bit of a wait. I was told the burgers were a must try, so I ordered the little Crunchy burger with fries. We also had pizza nugs for the table. Everything was served hot, and the food was delicious! read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. This was hands down one of the worst experiences I've had at a bar. From the second we sat down, our waitress, a younger, heavy-set brunette girl, had an attitude about us ordering drinks... at a bar. I asked for a double and she brought a single, saying it was because there was a beer bucket at the table, even though I wasn't even drinking the beer. Completely unnecessary. Never have I been denied a drink at a bar the second I stepped in. Completely sober mind you. After we finished eating, we stayed to watch a hockey game they had on their TV's. After a few minutes of enjoying the game, the manager proceeded to come up to us and say we shouldn't be staying so long because they had reservations waiting and that we didn't inform them we were staying to watch the game. An absolute INSANE thing to say to paying customers enjoying their time. Sorry, but you run a COLLEGE bar...people stay and watch games all the time. The older, heavy-set, rude, miserable looking female manager with dirty blonde hair--who was incredibly condescending from the moment she sat us, proceeded to tell us to "chill out on the drinks," after we informed her we were going to continue to watch the hockey game THEY WERE PLAYING. Our entire tables jaw's dropped. She then ran away before anyone could even respond to her disgusting comment. It was so beyond disrespectful and I have never once been treated so poorly in a restaurant setting. No one at our table was even near drunk or causing any issues whatsoever. The way both her and the waitress handled everything was completely out of line. I've worked in food service for many years and I can recognize when someone is being out of line and needs to be cut off, but this situation was SO far from that. Just a normal family visiting their kids or parents weekend trying to enjoy their time together. Instead of running their business like professionals, and not over booking on a busy night, they tried to rush us out and make us feel like we were in the wrong for being there. If you go here, make sure to steer clear of this manager, you'll know her when you see her, she acts and looks miserable, is very heavy set, shorter, and has a horrible attitude. Also, stay clear of the waitress who had no guts to speak for herself and had to get management involved for no reason whatsoever. We were nothing but incredibly kind, warm and nice from the beginning, so these comments and judgmental actions came out of left field. Crunchy's is a fun, social atmosphere to meet up with friends. There is a room with pinball machines, and they even have karaoke nights, which is what I went to watch. (I was amazed at how talented some of the participants were!) We were told there was a wait, but ended up being seated much sooner than the expected wait time. I liked that the booths have napkin dispensers and condiments like mayo for convenience. I was ecstatic to find out that they had M-43 Tart Strawberry on tap, instead of in the can and had to order it. I ordered the Black & Bleu Burger for my entree because I am an avid bleu cheese lover and I was very impressed. It comes with bacon, pickles, onion, tomato, lettuce, and a pretzel bun. The fries were thick-cut and delicious. My friend ordered the 'Shrooms Basket of deep fried mushrooms. I wouldn't have thought to order this, but I really liked them once I tried them! read more

I am bit seasoned for a college bar, but Crunchy's is in its own league, identifiable with Michigan State, but standing on its own as one of the greatest drinking holes in the Midwest. Manny was my bartender, and he's an ambassador for East Lansing, Crunchy's, Michigan State, and the upper Midwest. His mastery of an eclectic amount of subjects made Manny perhaps the best conversationalist since Cicero. Service was great, very friendly and attentive. The bar had a classic dive bar look and feel. That was great. Apps were very flood and fresh. Fried pickles and Mozzarella sticks were very good. Burgers were a disappointment. A pet peeve of mine is asking me how I want my burger cooked and still getting it delivered well done. On top of that the burger was a frozen patty. Last time i visited this establishment I was accosted by a large man in a radiohead t-shirt who said I couldn't eat there because I had an odor. After speaking with other members of the staff I was finally seated. The food was alright, but the atmosphere was horrible. Loud, obnoxious, drunk teenagers fill the seats. I had a fried pickle. Curds and pizza were good, however they were a bit on the greasy side. It's bar food though, so no surprise there! Hubby had the blackened chicken sandwich, he felt it was a bit bland. Our waiter was really nice and personable Atmosphere/ambiance was the same as it was almost 30 years ago when we were in college. Music selection seemed to be stuck back from almost 30 years ago as well-but that wasn't an issue for my hubby or I , but for our new freshman, not so sure. They definitely had a nice selection of items on their menu to choose from so everyone should be able to find something. I would have preferred normal size plates and having real silverware on the table instead of having the server bring one knife and two forks with the pizza ‍ It was fun going back almost 3 decades later and would definitely go again. A mainstay in the MSU campus area of East Lansing. This place is legendary. Took my son, an MSU freshman here to show him the ropes and the places is old man used to stomp around. We tried to find where my wife and I carved our initials into the wall back in the early days, but no luck! The burgers are even better than I recall. Adn, the bun was amazing! Monday nights they have reduced prices on the little burgers (1/4#) and dollar of Miller Lite drafts! How can you go wrong? I just don't need a full half pound burger these days!!! Anyways, a great college town bar/restaurant without too many rowdy students. Enjoyable time was had. Food was good, service was good, ambiance was great! We decided to come here based on some reviews that we saw. First off, the parking situation does suck. Good thing we read the sign after walking around and entering the building. We could not park behind the building because they had fixed it and the cement was drying. We had to pay for parking, but at least it was not too expensive. We sat down and decided to order appetizers. I ordered the spinach artichoke dip, and it was the nastiest dip I have ever seen or had before. The dip was completely liquid watery and runny. It was absolutely disgusting. My chips were just getting soggy wet, and all of the dip just falls off. It was also super salty. I could taste the salt. I only had 3 chips and stopped because it grossed me out. The waitress did not seem to care at all when I told her I was done with it because I did not like it. She just grabbed it and walked away. I also ordered the stone baked DEEP DISH pizza. As you can see from the photo. My pizza was not deep dish at all. It was super thin and resembled a flatbread. It was a bit fluffed out and thick by the crust area, and it got extremely thin towards the middle. The middle area tasted rubbery slimy, and the crust area did not taste as if it was cooked all the way. The bread was doughy, and chewy tasting, and it was mostly air trapped towards the crust. I had seen other photos and their pizza was thicker and cooked more. Mine did not taste as though it was cooked properly. Again, the waitress did not care. I only ate one piece. I ordered a dessert as well. It was an icecream cookie. The icecream tasted good, like ordinary vanilla. It was fresh and light. The cookie was good, but it was extremely sweet. You could see the crystalized sugar on the cookie as I took bites into it. It was a bit too sweet for me, which is funny considering I love sweet things. I will be back in lansing in the next few weeks, but I will not come back here. I think the only reason people enjoy this food is because it is super salty and they are drinking. Usually salty and fried foods are great when you drink a lot. read more

I looked up go to spots for eating in Big Ten college towns and Crunchys seemed to be the consensus pick. Underwhelmed would best describe our experience. Server was very nice and I appreciated their craft beer selection but the food was average and the overall vibe inside was nothing special. We split a burger and chili cheese fries and all were just ok. But as a whole East Lansing didn't do much for me so if you like the town you may love this place idk. read more

Visited on a college tour of MSU. Service was great - had the Sunday special (half price large pizza) plus wings and an avocado burger with tots. All delicious. Server was fast and friendly. Lots of tvs for sports (we were watching ncaa basketball tournament) and tradition appears to be writing on the walls so that was fun to read.
