Our Mardi Gras season here in Mobile has ended, and as we are well into Lent, I finally have time…read moreto compose a review of this unique and very good bakery. I wish that I could say that I was the one at our household who discovered Dropout Bakery, but I cannot. Instead it was my wife who, searching for someplace other than a supermarket to purchase a King Cake for our Mardi Gras celebration, found this fine bakery. Now, as I have never actually been to its location in downtown Mobile, it should be understood that this review is based solely on my experience with consuming their product. My wife learned that this bakery has an online ordering system, and that the product ordered through their website should be picked up the following morning. She further learned that, because of high demand, their in store product usually sales out within minutes of their opening each day. So as a first try she ordered a 6 inch King Cake, a small spinach quiche, and two petit-fours. The next morning she drove downtown and found, as she had learned it would be from online reviews, a long line to the bakery of customers waiting for the business to open. After going the long queue and finally upon reaching the interior, she found her online order waiting for her, separated from the other produce which was being quickly bought up by the customers in shop. This small business simply does not yet have the manpower or equipment to produce enough product to last beyond one day. Which is a good thing for customers who insist on same day freshness. The quiche and petit-fours did not survive long enough for me a get a photograph of each, but I did manage to get a photo of the King Cake, which I have included in this review. Finally, we found each item to be superbly delicious and very much worth the effort. We will be back again soon in order to sample more of their product, especially their larger King Cake when Mardi Gras season rolls around again next year.

Everything looked so good that narrowing it down was honestly the hardest part. I went with the Conecuh Pepper Honey pastry and the Coconut Mojito Cruffin, and both were absolutely delicious and so creative. The kind of place that makes you wish you lived nearby so you could keep working your way through the menu.

A hidden gem on the Gulf Coast! Mobile, Alabama, and…read moresurrounding Gulf Coast residents as well as travelers passing through-this review is for your eyes and more importantly, your taste buds. This bakery is truly a diamond in a rough and a hidden gem. I did not even know it existed until two days ago, but it absolutely did not disappoint. I ordered the triple chocolate cake from my wife's birthday. She is beautiful, loving and very picky so the cake had to be special. And it was. The cake was moist, rich and perfectly balanced. The chocolate was not too sweet and every bite felt like the stars and the planets had a line. It was simply perfect. After placing my order, I read some of the reviews and decided to call the bakery. Lucky for me. I spoke with one of the owners who assured me that everything would be exquisite. She made me feel valued and appreciate it and I'm sure they go out of their way to make every customer feel the same way. They have earned a customer for every cake occasion going forward, I definitely recommend them.

Type of Food: Freshly made premium frozen custard, custom blend-ins (Whitsers), cookie sandwiches (Whitties), sundaes, shakes, and floats. Review: The custard here is fantastic. We loved all of it--the ability to make your own custom creation is a huge plus, and the classic turtle flavor was excellent. The shop itself is nicely tucked away in Daphne and features a very pleasant outdoor seating area to relax and enjoy your treat. Cons: The layout of the parking lot and drive-through is highly inconvenient. The drive-through path uniquely wraps around the entire entrance and exit areas. If the drive-through line gets long, it blocks the main pathway and makes it very difficult to easily access or maneuver into the parking lot. Thumbs up / Thumbs down: Thumbs up (We would definitely go back for the custard, though we'll be mindful of the drive-through line next time!).

I was the only customer there and trying to decide between cookies or cupcakes. Ultimately, I decided on six cupcakes - three different flavors. 2 of each: cookies and cream, strawberry shortcake, and chocolate peanut butter. They all looked delicious but I noticed when I opened the box they were packed in very tightly causing the different frostings to rub on each other. It wasn't a huge problem, but it definitely took away from the presentation as I set them out. I hope they come up with a solution for this so that the cupcakes stay as pretty as they are when you buy them.
