When plugged in the guitar made no sound. As a possible first timer, I called the shop and was referred to Zack. We talked and I explained the problem. While talking, I got the sense that he knew what to do. New wiring harness. New pots. Setup. I brought the Dead Kramer in, having stripped out the wiring harness. Zack told me, probably two weeks. As I left, I saw pots in blister packs for sale on the wall behind the cash register. That gave me confidence that this was the right place. About a week and a half in I called and he told me it would be ready by the end of the week. I waited until the beginning of the next week. I did have to go back to get the Floyd Rose handle, but no big deal. Zack had it. The Kramer is now in the hands of a 13 year old who is learning Rush licks and Dropped D tunings. Mission Accomplished. I'll be back.

We teased him because he was only saving $100 by going there versus the other music stores, and it was a bit of a drive for us . . . but it saved a lot more in the long run! They used to have a deal that whatever money you spent while renting went towards your future violin that you would buy. I rented for about 8 years before buying, and I ended up not having to pay for anything except for maybe my case. They will let you play on instrument after instrument, talk to you about them, describe the sounds . . . needless to say, I spent hours here. : ) They do excellent repairs with excellent service, and even though I think they dropped the rental deal, their prices are still good. My violin was valued at somewhere around $1000 there, but it would cost so much more anywhere else. They're not after selling you the most expensive instrument, just the one you like the most. (Of course, the one I liked the most was the one the owner was making, but it was going to sell for $5000--boo!) Bonus throw-in . . . I'm apparently related to Mr. Farrell, and to his nephew who also works/worked there. It's like third/fourth cousin or something, but still random fun!

I entrusted them with my 1965 Fender Jazzmaster to add a Mastery bridge and tremolo, as well as Curtis Novak pickups, in addition to a setup using their state-of-the-art Plek machine. The guitar now plays and sounds perfectly. Steve Blake and his team are far more interested in helping a musician sound their best than making a sale. More than once, they've talked me out of purchasing something from Baltimore Music Company. I've also enlisted their perspective on purchases I've made from the likes of Gruhn Guitars, Matt Umanov, Wilcutt Guitars and others. They've earned my trust again and again and again. Finally, in a world where most music stores are strictly an online thing, the Baltimore Music Company is a great place to hang. You can noodle guitars, basses, amps and stomp boxes in what is easily the nicest, most well-appointed music store I've ever been in. It is a business incubator. Terrific work!! Hamiltone is mainly a site fur music lessons which I'm told are great. There are three studio practice rooms for instruction and a small retail business. They also fix guitars. On the retail side it's small. James, the owner, admits it's a work in progress. He has guitar strings, some equipment and a few guitars. Again it's mostly lessons so don't expect a ton...but do expect knowledge!!! He helped my little boy pick a 3/4 guitar and compare it to full size, gave us advice on cases, and was encouraging. I would not recommend going to this store. I've been there three times now, and two of those have…read morebeen bad experiences. For context, I am not a great guitarist, but I have been playing for around 30 years, and I regularly purchase guitar equipment. In the past two years, I have bought 4 electric guitars, 1 acoustic guitar, three amps, and 2 pedals from local shops. In short, I know most of the guitar stores here in town and have negotiated at all of them. This store is my least favorite in the entire Baltimore area. First, though, the positive. Overall, this shop has a nice collection of instruments. I'm going to focus on guitars and basses, but they also have a good range of brass and woodwinds and percussion. In terms of guitars, they have a good collection in all price ranges. In addition, their guitars tend to be set up nicely. Finally, their prices tend to be pretty good. I've read other people complain, but I think most of their listed prices are average to good. Because of these things, I thought this was going to be one of my favorite places to buy equipment. I was quite wrong. In fact, I won't ever be shopping there again. The problem is that the staff are a@#holes. There's not really another way to say it. There's one guy with long blond hair that pretty friendly and nice. Otherwise, the staff here are the literal worst. The first a@*hole is the manager. I stopped by with an original 1st run 1987 Ibanez Jem. The guitar has been repainted, and the bridge had been replaced. Obviously, this isn't a collection-level guitar, but a@*hole offered me $800 and told me that I should consider selling it for parts. The guitar is in nearly perfect condition and plays great. For context, I sold the guitar last month for $2700. However, it wasn't just the low-ball offer. It was his entire attitude. He came in talking about how he has a 1987 Jem (probably a lie) and how that may be worth $2000. He pretended to know everything about Jems and treated me like an noob. I chose to think he was just an idiot rather than dishonest, so I just left. Today, I purchased a Reverend guitar from this shop. Today is black Friday, so they had "deals" on quite a few guitars. They had a guitar that had been sitting on the shelf for over a year for $850. I asked them if they would take $800, which I don't think is an unreasonable offer. Chris (one of the a$%holes there) said that it was marked down to $850 already. I told him that I had been there about a year ago and that the original price had been $850. It was marked $899 online but $850 in the store. He told me that I was a liar, which I am not. When I told him he was wrong, he called me a liar again. So I told him that he could let the guitar sit there for another year. Ironically, as I was leaving, the nice, long-haired blond worker realized that the price on the guitar was actually wrong, and that it should have been $799.99. I bought the guitar because I thought it was worth $800, and I liked the guitar. I'm filled with regret, though, because that a#$hole called me a liar when the guitar was incorrectly marked then as before. I will never set foot in this sh#tshow of a store again. I will make sure to tell everyone I know to avoid it as well. If you want to get angry, this is a great shop to go to. If you would like a good experience, go somewhere else.

So helpful and knowledgeable but without the pretentious bs that can come with a store that's so important and niche. Quick story: I go there just to look at drums, as I've. It played in almost a decade and planned on looking for a drum-set into the summer. I was in no rush.I went to several music stores in the state and was unimpressed enough to keep looking. Within 30 minutes of looking at drums at BDC a used kit would call my name for the next 7 days. I'm so happy with my purchase and never would have found this gem without BDC. Looking forward to buying many more toys ASAP.
