The Guitar Center in Towson has always been fair and professional with me and my friends. Their staff is helpful and somewhat friendly and their policies are agreeable. I like to mosey and they do not mind customer browsing. Sometimes, though, getting waited on can be a challenge. I suggest they have a wandering ''answer man'' to bring attention to their appropriate staff for customers who need more personal assistance. I wanted to stop in to try a variety of acoustic guitars and dropped in on a Saturday evening. I was able to play a wide variety of guitars from Yamaha to Martin and I liked the fact that the staff were helpful and let me do my thing. I decided to really think through my next guitar purchase and trying various instruments was helpful. I lost track of time, but will definitely go back for more exploration. EVERYTIME i show up they are so rude, disrespectful, and unhelpful. they do not help you look for what you need. it feels like high school as they think they're too cool and popular to talk to you. They do have some cool equipment, and i understand there's not a lot of music stores in towson, so it is better than having no where else to go. But if you can avoid it, i would. Music go round is a store with really nice equipment, and the employees are much more helpful and kind there. I've been to so many other competent and fun guitar stores, it is such a let down to have the people who are supposed to sell you, and help you with your interests, act like such a grouch. i'm angry. and furious. and emotional. i don't know how i'll ever carry on after these traumatic experiences. you should be better for everyone you lackluster group of actors. have a great day read more

Was very strange he took our disagreement so personal that he effectively lost business and wasted my time and money getting there. I drove 2 hours. Luckily and thankfully The guitar center in Laurel was a very good experience, the guys there were personable and knowledgeable. (They accepted all 3 instruments for trade in no problem never mentioning bridge being a problem) gc employees/. Managers especially should not be treating people that way who are just trying to do business with guitar center (I didn't mind him refusing to trade in that guitar because of his opinion of its quality, I just feel that I shouldn't have been disciplined like I was his child or wife or something for merely disagreeing with him) He's giving gc a bad reputation I wish I had asked for his name I think I will get it so I can properly report him to a higher authority in gc. 100% I'm not going to recommend my friends to go there because of this awful service and wasteful experience read more

I lost my job this past year and I was hoping to come to Guitar Center to cheer myself up. I'm not in the market for a new guitar yet but I'm saving. It had been awhile since I got myself some new guitar picks and some other stuff so i thought I'd stop in for affordable accessories. A fret wrap and some picks. I realize the goal of these sort of stores is to make big sales, but money is tight right now and I wanted to stop by my local Guitar Center. I was in the beginning stages of looking at my next bass since I had bought my first bass at this location. Not ready to buy yet but starting to browse. The cashier Anna was kind, after all it wasn't a big order. The supervisor who I suppose needed to authorize the transaction (perhaps she was in training) DID NOT look at me, greet me, thank me, and handed me my receipt without any kind of acknowledgment. Are you serious? I left my home to visit your establishment and handed you some of my hard earned money. The LEAST you can do is say hello to me or have a good day and your supervisor couldn't even do that. I left your store feeling worse. That's not a good practice in customer retention. Suffice it to say to I won't be returning to this Guitar Center location. Or probably any other to be honest. Good luck with your next bankruptcy. read more

Went to the Towson store today.Going into any store in my condition (I need a walker to get around )Is a choir.I wasn't greeted with even a hello. I was in the market for an amp. I walked around the store pausing to test from spot to spot Three customers that could walk got help I got another taste of casper the ghost. I've bought guitars here years ago. I was interested in a boss catana amp but with no toes and only three fingers I couldn't budge it . I sat in the used gear section for about 10 minutes. I purchased a two hundred dollar gift card for my son. I also purchased a pair of socks. I wrote a check on 12/20/2022 for the full amount of the gift card and socks. I have the cash receipt and the authorization slip for the $200.00. There were extenuating circumstances. I misplaced the gift card but have the cash register receipt and the authorization slip. I went after Christmas to try to straighten this out. I have torn my house apart trying to find the gift card. Through the years I have bought an amp; a special guitar seat plus other things. I was at the Towson store just recently. Looking to buy a used Fender guitar Mexican made, ask the lead manager if he could take 10% off Rudely, that was a definite no, he would lose his job. So the next day I brought a another guitar in for trade in And was low bald, I know they have to make money, but that was an embarrassment. This guitar was an awesome shape. Another customer was there he said. Why are you trading that guitar in, its beautiful. I will say in the past 7 years I have spent a lot of money with Guitar Center and my gear card. Well Guitar Center, this store is a total dud. I have been waiting for a call back now for 2 days from your manager here to explain to me how you lost my 2017 Gibson Firebird Studio HP that I have tracking confirmation that you received. How do you do that? How can you have possession of my guitar, that your associate Tom signed for and then have it magically disappear? I can not recommend this store to anyone. They had possession of my guitar that costs almost $1500 to replace and LOST IT. They don't want to compensate me for this and won't return calls. They won't even talk to their corporate office that has been hounding them about how they could do this to a customer. What kind of business does this? If it weren't for Peter in repairs? I'd never come back. I've been to this exact location FOUR times since December 30. Twice in one day. Simply wanted to purchase 3 guitars. If it weren't for the fact I'm restricted by a gift card? I'd go elsewhere right now. I've been in this store for 2 hours again and I can see the manager and not once has he even acknowledged my presence let alone a sales staff. Peter finally got a salesman for me and he could hardly be bothered and was adamant about selling me a floor model that was missing a knob or another floor model that's been here since the 6th so it's as good. No. If I say I want in box brand new. I don't want what everyone has grabbed off the wall and tossed around. If it weren't for a gift card I'd not be in a spot now of finding another location where the manager and sales staff actually will retail me an in box guitar from stock without waiting for hours. The manager on duty (if not store manager then shift manager as I'm unsure of hierarchy in Guitar Center) though seems more concerned with picking out his outfit for the day rather than actually managing the store which means making sure your customers are taken care of so they don't leave having not spent their cash. My experience at this Guitar center has been phenomenal! The Manager Gully is always available and willing to assist us , has an awesome relationship with my 6 year old daughter always encouraging her . Allison my bass teacher and drums teacher for my 13 year old is Amazing!! Ms Cam is doing a wonderful with my 6 year old daughter teacher piano. Every time my family comes here it feels like home and family. It's a bum trip. Employees act aloof, yet do not seem to be very knowledgeable. Used gear is often outrageously priced in this particular store compared to other Guitar Centers. I don't know what's happening there but the past two times I have tried to make a purchase at the Towson guitar center I have been completely ignored. I had a specific item in mind both times and money in my pocket that I had saved up ready to go and I couldn't have been more invisible. One time I told someone exactly what I was looking for and they said they would check to see if they had it. No problem I'll wait... an hour and a half goes by and they've walked past me several times and even demoed some product for other people all the while making sure not to make eye contact with me. Tonight I stood in the drum room, which was a hot mess, and not a single employee even entered the department for the better part of an hour. I spent that time looking around at broken display equipment and trying not to trip over random drumsticks scattered about on the floor. It kinda felt like the store was going out of business soon or something. I doubt anyone from the store of company is going to read this and I don't usually do the yelp thing but I'm just really disappointed. read more

Whenever I have ordered anything used from eBay, Stratosphere, Reverb or Amazon, I have ALWAYS received what I have ordered and I got what I paid for. Guitar Center? You may have your order cancelled and they may tell you that they are sorry that YOU cancelled your order. If you advertise a product for sale and you purchase it, you should receive what you expect. The management here is really good. If you have a less than stellar experience, you just haven't spoken to the right person. The manager here is A-1. There are a lot of VERY knowledgeable musicians here, as well...not just salesmen. Yea, they are on commission, but who isn't, anymore? Pricing is competitive, and there are price matching signs EVERYWHERE. I just ordered a new Seagull S6 lefty from them...traded in a couple of guitars, and was treated MORE than fair. As one who generally orders online, I am finding that these guys are the better option. I'm glad I gave 'em a second look. read more

That's OK, cuz I've mastered Google. I really only like to go in there to hear the 13 year olds with ironic hair wanking on the test guitars at full volume to the latest hot tune by [insert insipid pop artist's name here]. There was a time when I had to have the latest synthesizer out, I subscribed to Keyboard Magazine, I could tell you the difference between an LFO and a MIDI patch. Nowadays, I just enjoy all the new technology. Here you can sample a nice selection of keyboards and no one will bug you. Don't touch my Moog! Most of the staff are nice and try to answer your questions...it's not easy trying to pretend you're interested in a customer's new band. read more

Being the last big game in town these guys are positioned with little competition. I stopped in with questions about some equipment and pricing a midi controller. What I got from the first guy in the electronics dept was a disgusted your asking me questions about stuff a real musician should know attitude.But I got what I needed from him eventually. The second guy I asked about the midi controller was more helpful but I waited fooorever along with 3 or 4 other people for someone to get back to the counter.. I grew a partial beard waiting for these posers.. I purchased a cable and the price was reasonable. they have a great selection but the customer service really sucks. I purchased a gift card for guitar lessons for the New Year. I recently tried to schedule guitar lessons online, and received a message stating that I'd receive a call back shortly to follow up on scheduling. The call never came. I decided to be proactive and call the store to schedule sessions over the phone. I was "transferred" to their lessons department, which apparently meant being on hold indefinitely (waited for over a half hour on each call). Even after explaining what happened the first time, there was never any sense of urgency, professionalism, or an attempt to make amends from the person I spoke with. I'm tempted to just cancel the card and ask for a full refund, but I really want to learn how to play. Even inside the store, I never get the impression that I'm dealing with a business - zero professionalism, attentiveness, or anything that would encourage a customer or a serious musician to return from a business aspect. Based on my experience, I would not recommend booking lessons with Guitar Center Towson. read more

The Guitar Center in Towson, Baltimore gave me the best customer service I've had in my entire life. About 9 months ago, I bought a guitar from this location as a new player. I noticed that it sounded a little different from the other guitars I was used, and assumed it needed a string change. Due to the Coronavirus, I never had the chance to go in and get them changed until about 2 months ago. I went in solely for that purpose, and was told to come back after an hour to pick up the guitar. Instead, I got a call back from the repair technician (John Derry) explaining that the bottom two strings of my Fender Strat were somewhat muted, along with several other minor issues he noticed. His analysis was that there was some issues that were only possible due to manufacturing. As a new player, I never would have noticed the issues if he hadn't pointed them out. He could have gave the guitar back to me broken and I would have assumed it was just my poor playing muting the strings. But he helped me for several weeks through texts and calls, and helped me file a claim with Asurion Insurance. When Asurion had me mail the guitar to a Fender Certified repair location, John took it upon himself to securely bubble wrap, box, and add a note explaining all of the issues my guitar had before *personally driving it to my own house.* I shipped it to the location, and after a long month of waiting, John asking for updates the whole time, the guitar was finally returned from the repair place! John had me bring it into his office at Guitar Center to play and make sure it was all good before letting me leave. Additionally, the string change from 2 months prior was $20. John personally payed for it out of his own pocket and didn't even mention it to me until my guitar was completely repaired and tested by him. Since I was 16 when the entire situation started, John made sure no conversations were had between us without my dad there. The entire time John made sure my guitar was the best it could be and didn't keep me out of the loop, just change the strings, or even just give the guitar back after the initial string change. He went completely out of his way to make sure I had the best possible experience when it came to my instrument and gave me the best customer service I could have ever asked for. read more

If you been to one Guitar Center ...you been to all. Fondest memory of a Guitar Center purchase...I started playing bass for a bluegrass band....and found a used Kay bass...YES KAY BASS at a Guitar Center. Since most in there are rock/metal types.....I didnt have to pay an arm and a leg for it. My daughter uses it for her school orchestra and jazz bands. Shop wisely at Guitar Center...you can find some great deals...or you can find no deals disguised as a deal. You need to do your homework before coming here. Overall...they have very good prices and usually beats everyone in town. However now everyone else in town will match Guitar Center prices.....so go figure. Get on distribution for their newletter. Their advertised specials are sometimes incredible. Some of these specials are well hidden in the store. read more

I understand we're dealing with a pandemic but I've ordered something that I really needed to use on the weekend and to receive an email saying your item is ready to be picked up and the store is closed without notice?!?!? I mean really, I wished they could've shipped it to another nearby location but instead even for curbside pick-up it was not even an option. I rarely ever rate any place. But this is experience calls for some honest feedback. What horrible customer service! The lack of experience and absolute sheer desire to not work shows. I spent almost $900.00 on a guitar for my husband, nothing was told to me about it, not one piece of paper on it, not even the whammy bar. After getting it to my husband he said the 2nd place pick up humbucker thing isn't working, obviously I have no idea what I am looking for or what they are called. When you go somewhere to purchase something you hope that the staff can help you with honesty and well hell realize you are in the store. And this kid told me he was training someone.... another kid holding up the wall, not paying attention to anyone, not taking time to learn anything about his job. I wanted a nice gift for my husband and instead i have gotten him a new guitar that needs the pieces that are to come with it, and it needs fixed. Personally, every time I've stepped into this store I have had a great experience. The staff is very knowledgeable and generally seems like they genuinely care about the customer. Just the other day I walked in looking for a few pedals, not knowing anything about anything, when a young gentleman behind the counter took the initiative to ask me how I was doing, what I needed, and then proceeded to provide me with the knowledge I needed in order make some sensible purchases on a few effects pedals. I thought I'd have to spend a fortune but he ensured that I got the best products that I could get for my price range. I'll probably be back in the near future. read more

We've been in the store 2 times in the last week. During our first visit my 10 year bought a bass he had been saving up for and during our second we picked up the bass. We worked with the newer manager, Nick, and he is AMAZING! Incredibly nice, helpful and knowledgeable. He bonded instantly with my son and went above and beyond to make sure we had a good experience. Guitar center is great, but we will definitely return just because of the customer service we received during these last two visits. First, they don't take care of the merchandise here. I once witnessed an employee tossing a $2k Martin into the air, only to catch it one-handed by the base and replace it on an overhead wall-peg. While I applaud his dexterity, this really isn't an appropriate venue for juggling. That he did it in the presence of customers doesn't inspire much confidence about the way they probably handle equipment behind the scenes. My primary concern, however, is that most (not all) of the sales staff is rather dismissive of female customers. I imagine most people, men and women alike, would be put off by an employee saying, "Whatcha want?" to them, to say nothing of "Whatcha want, dear?" which is how I was once addressed at this location. At least I was acknowledged, which was a rarity in itself. I won't even buy strings here any more. read more

This Guitar Center location is truly notorious for the most abysmal customer service you can imagine. By that I mean, you'll stand around for half an hour or more just trying to buy a single pack of strings. Some of the people that work here are nice, and I can tell they try their best, but dear god, they are just ridiculously understaffed and management really doesn't care. I feel like some of the workers (including the manager I always see there) would rather be anywhere else in the world except genuinely helping customers. Some seem to lack any kind of training and don't really know how to do basic things, leaving it to others to pick up the slack, all while there's like 6 people impatiently waiting for help or to make their purchases. I blame the management (or, in this instance, lack thereof), as it just feels so unprofessional and disorganized sometimes, like when the manager came in from his break stoned to the bone and absolutely reeking of weed, stuff like that. If the people in charge don't care, why should the employees care? It's just annoying and sad because some of the people who work there and genuine and knowledgeable. I can't tell you how many times I've been in there, waiting forever, and I overhear multiple people complaining about the terrible wait times and lack of attention... so much so that sometimes I'm truly surprised it's still in business. read more

I will always have a love hate relationship with this store... Had some good guitar and gear buying experience over the years and some helpful people. But also had some pretty bad. Trading or selling used gear is usually always bitter sweet I guess you could say with the bitter usually more prevalent... Overall, don't expect to build a type of relationship that is consumer friendly with these guys as they are too corporate. Hence, even if you are loyal to this place and buy expensive guitars, amps etc. they will not necessarily come to bat for you if you have an issue with something. Plus, you're not going to have the same crew there usually for years and years. Even if you do find a decent staff member.... Staff these days are rather hipster-ish which is semi-annoying but typical for the the current trends. Though they try and act more caring these days which is good I guess but its still rather meh. But remember this is a business and if you scratch the hipster surface there's of course ultimately a salesman there....and out of this current incarnation of sales reps there are some incredibly shady ones who will try and devalue your 6-string by plugging it into an amp with a bass guitar chord and claim something is wrong with the pickups so go see our repair tech. Totally sketchy. But I may be giving that guy too much credit. Rather he may just be an idiot and yes this really did happen here... I use 'em mostly for strings accessories. Keep in mind, to make a decent purchase here you have to be seasoned enough. Equipment and instruments can be damaged yet will sell for full price regardless and it of course also depends if they actually carry that special guitar you've been looking for that y'know, was meant for you all along. But I suppose that goes with anything really so does that make it any more special really? Just be savvy, have some idea/concept of what you want, take a your time, don't be impulsive, thoroughly look over the instrument or pedal or amp, let it digest a little the playing experience, don't give in to any high pressure sales tactic and come back if you have to. AND USE THE INTERNET! Youtube is a great source to get a sense of what you may be looking for tone wise as there are tons of guitar nerds who do comparisons and offer tips, etc. etc. etc. Picking the perfect instrument is more of a personal matter and naturally depends on if the guitar that's just for you is out there but also if you know thy inner musical self which will allow you to choose the right one. This can only come with experience and no Guitar Center alone is going to enable you to do this or carry what is really meant for you all the time. The perfect purchase rest solely on you, but it helps of course if the store consistently stocks value instruments. Again, google, youtube, craigslist, ebay, the Internet is thou only true friend here. Do your homework, be patient and you won't get screwed. read more

When I purchased a pricey Roland NX 700 keyboard with the 3-year warranty, I was told that if my keyboard, while under warranty, should need a repair while I needed to use it for a gig, that I would be able to get a 'loaner' for a short interim. Well, that doesn't happen to be true, when now, being in need of such a loaner, no one has ever heard of such a thing. They lied to me in Wilmington, DE and also the ProWarranty woman told me that various stores would do this. I don't have time to call a dozen stores to find out. My 12 year old daughter and I had two great experiences at the Guitar Center. First visit - my daughter broke a string on her older sister's guitar and so we went there to have someone fix it. We were really lucky to meet Steve. He gave us a lot of valuable information about buying a guitar, guitar lessons, and guitars in general - even got the name of a guitar teacher. Second visit - came back a week later to buy my daughter her own guitar when we realized that using her sister's guitar was not going to work. Bought an electric guitar from here. Dropped overt $1K. Steve was super helpful and no-pressure, but when I had to deal with the manager, he was a douchebag and I wanted to punch him in the face. Not a people-person-kinda-guy. More like a dungeons and dragons "angry" type. Never going back there. Went to Music-go-Round on York Rd where I was treated with courtesy and respect. Went to cash out and the nice cashier at the counter needed manager assistance for a military discount on Veteran's Day. We waited for 15-20 minutes for a manager to assist us and they never came. We could see him sitting at his desk on the computer doing God only knows what. The cashier was very pleasant and called for the two managers on duty to assist her and we still did not get service. We ultimately left without purchasing a damn thing and will never go here again. When we were leaving the parking lot we did see the manager walk out of the store and take a cigarette break.
