Phil is in fact very polite, professional and upfront, so something doesn't add up in this story. When you come here and actually meet with Nancy and Phil, you'll understand. I entrusted them with my 1965 Fender Jazzmaster to add a Mastery bridge and tremolo, as well as Curtis Novak pickups, in addition to a setup using their state-of-the-art Plek machine. The guitar now plays and sounds perfectly. Steve Blake and his team are far more interested in helping a musician sound their best than making a sale. More than once, they've talked me out of purchasing something from Baltimore Music Company. I've also enlisted their perspective on purchases I've made from the likes of Gruhn Guitars, Matt Umanov, Wilcutt Guitars and others. They've earned my trust again and again and again. Finally, in a world where most music stores are strictly an online thing, the Baltimore Music Company is a great place to hang. Farrell's--more than just violins! Come here for violins, violas, basses, and 'cellos…read more My dad brought me here back in 4th grade when I first decided to start playing the violin. We teased him because he was only saving $100 by going there versus the other music stores, and it was a bit of a drive for us . . . but it saved a lot more in the long run! They used to have a deal that whatever money you spent while renting went towards your future violin that you would buy. I rented for about 8 years before buying, and I ended up not having to pay for anything except for maybe my case. They will let you play on instrument after instrument, talk to you about them, describe the sounds . . . needless to say, I spent hours here. : ) They do excellent repairs with excellent service, and even though I think they dropped the rental deal, their prices are still good. My violin was valued at somewhere around $1000 there, but it would cost so much more anywhere else. They're not after selling you the most expensive instrument, just the one you like the most. (Of course, the one I liked the most was the one the owner was making, but it was going to sell for $5000--boo!) Bonus throw-in . . . I'm apparently related to Mr. Farrell, and to his nephew who also works/worked there. It's like third/fourth cousin or something, but still random fun!

I've had a good experience at Studio 14's Bandland in Essex, MD for the past year and a half. The…read moremonthly rate for renting the practice room is very reasonable, the space is well maintained, and various requests that we had regarding the practice room were met, which left us very satisfied. For instance, we needed an AC unit for the room, let the owner know, and within a week or two had one in the room. We wanted a lock put on the practice room's door, and that was done promptly, along with getting a set of keys for it. The previous band in the room left the carpet musty, so that was taken out quickly as well. The space is secure and requires key cards to get into the main parking area. We never had any issues with other bands using the space, either. It was hassle-free getting to and from the practice room at any time of the day, and there's even a dope Mexican food place called Vargas that's only 5 minutes away that the band has been frequenting heavily. My one complaint - the soap in the bathroom should be changed more often. For that reason I'd give a 9/10, but I'll round up since we are doing a 5-star scale.
