I called Cruiser Tech following a poor experience at another Land Cruiser specific shop in LA. My 94 80-Series started making a pretty substantial knock after a 1500+ mile trip from Southern California to Oregon. I called Cesar with a list of questions and he answered them promptly. After being sent a video, he told me that he suspected that he suspected a rod bearing was shot and that they could either replace the rod bearings from below (and explained the longevity, but understood from a cost standpoint that it might be necessary) or, what he recommended, which was a full rebuild. My car was has low mileage, so I decided to have them rebuild it. I spent a fair amount of time talking to the techs there who clearly live and breathe these things. They worked quickly and Cesar sent me updates/photos throughout the process. They even went so far as to sending me home with one of the shop's cruisers when I had brought the car back to address a check engine light that came on (bad o2 sensor). My only gripe is that their invoices are not all that detailed/precise, so if you're a nut-and-bolt detailed bookkeeper like me, know that going in. Overall I definitely recommend these guys. Their shop is constantly full of high-dollar projects and they're great people to geek about Cruisers with. read more

I called this business and they sent me a text to ask what I needed. I explained the work I needed (over text) and then they wouldn't even respond after 4-5 attempts over several days. Complete radio silence. Not a single word. Crazy. I was curious to at least know why they wouldn't respond. Oh well. You would think they would at least respond and tell me they're too busy or they don't do work on a 1984 FJ60 2F engine, which is the current project I'm working on. I was looking forward to working with these guys on my three+ Land Cruisers since they're close, but I'll keep using K&H Imports in Canoga Park. It's worth the drive! I took my 1984 LC for a full inspection and full service. He took care of it and my truck runs smooth

When I first met Cesar I was expecting a burly mechanic in a blue button down shirt with navy khakis and a sweaty brow. Instead Cesar Calzadilla is all business, and his award-winning builds are quickly gaining value. In 2017 I brought my first vehicle, a 4Runner that I wanted lifted, with grilles, lights and running boards and the budget came in under the original quoted price of $8500 at less than $7k. I attached a pic of the finished project 4-Runner. Then in 2019, I bought a 40 Series FJ and Cesar, was willing to come out to the sellers location and offered a free check up and opinion on price. Surprisngly Cesar guessed the exact sale price despite it not being listed online yet. That build only took approximately 4 months and included restoration of every major body panel, something that most shops including the shop right next door to his always outsource which can lead to bigger problems when things are not aligned or welded correctly. My point is that Cesar takes responsibility for his shops' work and Ive experienced the nightmare of a custom shop passing the buck on shoddy work in the past and thats not a problem at Cruiser-Tech. Cruiser Tech does not get all the hype and 5 star reviews it deserves. Cesar and his team took in my 1996 Toyota Land Cruiser with about 272K miles. My LC was running weird. It had bad idling and kept "stalling". 2 other shops advised me to get only a head gasket job but Cesar recommended an engine rebuild. After a 40 minute plus conversation over the phone I was convinced based on his knowledge, passion for LC's and exact details needed for the rebuild. The team diagnosed that I had a cracked head, low compression, rod knock, water mixed in the oil and scraps of metal found in the oil pan. My engine definitely needed some major overhauling which Cruiser Tech did not fail to deliver. Cesar was right because if I had only gotten the top rebuilt I eventually would of needed the bottom done. Cesar was real accommodating and kept me informed the whole entire time. He even called me when out on a trip off-roading in Utah just to give me updates. The cost of the rebuild was super reasonable with a backed up warranty. My rig was done in 2 weeks like he had promised and it's been SOLID! 1,500 miles since my rebuild and it's been nothing but a dream to drive. I trust and recommend this shop for all your Land Cruiser needs. This is my second home for my rig and could not be any happier. I'll be back to get re-geared and for some Eaton E-lockers! I made a deal with Cesar to lift my LC200, add an auxiliary gas tank, and debadge my trim. He told me it would be a couple weeks to get the parts - it ended up taking a month. I literally had to go to his shop after making a $9k cash down payment to get the status on the parts. He then told me it would be 2 days to install - it took 5. He decided after doing my suspension that he didn't want to do the gas tank or the debadging. All the way through communication was sparse and difficult. I had to take the vehicle back after a week because the rubbing was terrible, he also told me initially that he would be able to adjust the front suspension to make it about 1/2 lower than the rear. Right now the vehicle is sitting 1.25 lower in the front. I'm not a mechanic so I can't really speak to the quality of the work but based on the service level I will not be returning. read more

Cannot speak highly enough of Cruiser Tech. I bought a 1997 fzj80 and soon after purchasing it the engine threw a rod bearing and caused major engine damage. Not knowing what to do I reached out to a few forums for advice. Cesar at Cruiser Tech reached out to me privately and could not have been more helpful. Cesar even drove out to my house and picked up my Cruiser and was soon diagnosing the problem at his shop. Cesar could have rebuilt the engine but I decided to buy a new long block and have him swap the engine as well as complete some other work while he was in there (rear axle service as well).
